Do you want United to sign Eric Dier?

He's not as limited as Fellaini and a lot of people seem ok with having him in the squad.

Fellaini is a great player, don't know why people don't like him. He showed how good he was vs Ajax, You want a man to break up pressing or win the ball, pass and become a goal threat, it's him. He is a superb option to have and pleased Jose is using him.

Euro's he more or less played Carricks role, sat at no.6 and distributed the ball very, very well from deep, has a bit of what Neville would call Piano about him despite being big and strong, as soon as you saw him you thought he'd be someone Mourinho would like.

I think Mourinho was once quoted saying it's important to have English players at the top of your squad or something to that effect. This wouldn't surprise me in the slightest.

Even in the PL he will rarely go against midfielders as poor as Schone and Klaassen.

He is more similar to someone like Hargreaves I do not know why people persist with the Carrick comparison.

Does remind you a bit of Hargreaves, given his background and what not.

Not sure if he would set the world alight at OT. Then again, we said the same thing when we signed Carrick. He turned out to be alot more than expected.

He's less mobile than Hargreaves but stronger and taller. So not that much like him. And he's nothing like Carrick, who's got a much better range of passing and better composure. Some of the comparisons on here have me wondering if people have even watched the guy. He's a good, solid DM.

When you have Fellaini in your squad you play Fellaini football. He sure has his use, but he should be nowhere near the regular starting XI for Manchester United.

Fellaini football just won us a trophy that without him we would have lost.

Better teams would have beaten Ajax without resorting to Fellaini football. It would be great if we became one of those teams again.

Pogba and Herrera were our two best players in the final followed by Darmian and Blind. As for Dier, have any of the articles suggested how we expect to pull this off with Levy? I just can't see it being realistic regardless of my view of the player.

It's because we tolerate(d) players who aren't good enough; like Fellaini, Lingard, Rooney etc (I'd argue that Rashford isn't good enough to start for us either).

We accept mediocrity and Fellaini is a shining example of this.

Fellaini is a great option to our squad. If we can't agree on that then I guess we agree to disagree

Dier may not be a fancy name but he is effective in why he does, which is a DM. Fairly decent passer too. Whether he is worth it or not, it's unfair to say he isn't good enough for us. I would say what we need now is consistent performers rather than big name players

He played a good game but it's crazy saying we would have lost without him. He is a useful squad player but next season I'd rather we start with a midfielder who compliments Herrera and Pogba a bit more

We're making it sound like we won Barcelona in their prime. We won against a pack of kids, who play in a shit league while competing in a mickey mouse cup final. A top club shouldn't be playing in the Europa league and it should rely on that cup to make it to the CL.

As SAF used to say the league table doesn't lie. We're nowhere as good as we should be

Hard to disagree with that. It was a good season but people are deluded if they think minimal investment and this squad can win EPL.

I am not saying that its all doom and gloom. For example we've got some great talent coming up such as Martial, Rashford, Tuanzebe, Michell and Pogba who can only improve throughout the years. However lets stop kidding ourselves that this team doesn't need major improvement or that you can get away with it having a talentless beanpole in CM. We dominated the league for so many years with people like Carrick, Scholes, Keane, Ince and Robson in midfield not frigging Fellaini

I can't speak for others, but personally, I think if our players start to perform at their optimum levels, we can come a lot closer. Of course I agree we need investment, but we had too many players under performing to really assess our true level. Martial and Micky come straight to mind. There are significant weaknesses though which require a significant outlay.

Passing the ball long is how you beat a high press, surely? Man City have been criticised all year for trying to play out from the back; are both approaches wrong?

Solid point. But I wonder, are these players as good as we think? I have a feeling a number of them are massively over rated.

We've seen what Martial can do first hand, Micky I've thought was top class since he banged in 25 that season for Shakhtar (his last Dortmund season being utterly brilliant). I don't think we're quite as far from where we need to be as some may think. Griezmann and Belotti/Lukaku would go a long fecking way to fixing our problems, and Dier/Fabinho/Matic would all plug a hole.

Oh do shut up

Looking at the players we're being linked to at the moment (Perisic and Dier), I think it's becoming clear Mourinho is looking for a midfield that can stifle and control a game.

Im a huge Fellaini critic but credit where it's due, he played well in the final and we bullied Ajax. Nothing to do with Fellaini football, solely down to how Mou set us up to play, and it proved very effective. Jose got his tactics spot on.

Back on topic, I'm all for signing Dier, he'd be a great addition.
