Eric Dier | Poch: “He is an important player for us and the idea is not to sell him."

Do you want United to sign Eric Dier?

I'm not sure where all this Dier-to-United talk is coming from. Without trawling back through the thread, are there any even vaguely-solid sources for it?

How does he look like a winner? Is it aesthetics? His jaw?
For someone who people talk about as decent, but not with great ability, saying he looks like a winner just comes across as weird.

Spotting winners in all walks of life, is pretty simple. Certain people just have it - you know it instantly. There's no bullshit, just focus. That's what I get from him.

Matt Law from the Telegraph who covers the London clubs I believe.

Spurs will fleece us for a player who can't really get into their team. He's not bad, but certainly over-rated for the obvious reason of being an Englishman who isn't bang average
Can't really get into their team?
Out of 36 EPL gameweeks he only has 4 games where he played under 60 minutes.

I'd take Dier as the Carrick replacement, i.e. someone who can play CDM and fill in at CB if needed. Fabinho isn't a Carrick replacement for me, he's someone that we just flat out need to buy and have in addition to either Carrick or Carrick's replacement.

I completely agree with you. I think he makes Tottenham tick with his passes and breakup in play. 40M is a bargain for this guy

We can't be spending this much on mediocrity. He's not even better than Wanyama at DM yet people think he could be a carrick replacement.

Why not.Has to be more reliable than some of the others in the squad. Plus he is english and we will need to fill up the home quota ratio if Carrick and Rooney do leave (along with Jones hopefully)

We've got huge holes to fill in our team, we don't need to be creating any more.

Hilarious how people don't think he's all that, he'd be good for us, exactly what we need.

Even though I don't think he'd be a bad signing, just imagine what it would take to get Levy to deal.

Would not be worth it for the prize.

This is my biggest issue with this. He would improve us, I have no doubt about that, but the cost when we could probably get a comparable player for much less makes this a no go for me. He's a good player, but not that special that he absolutely has to be the player we get.

Christ no. And for 40m? Ick.

Carrick has more dimensions to his game than Dier ever will.

And yet Mourinho is keen on Dier, so presumably, you don't trust Jose's judgement?

Not always. Mourinho doing something doesn't automatically make it good.

SAF was twice the manager Mourinho is but that didn't stop him making mistakes either. You can trust someone generally while still finding faults here and there.

Dier is a one-dimensional footballer whose one dimension isn't even what I want to see us bring to midfield.

He's allowed to disagree with Jose's assessment of a player while still trusting Jose's judgement.

Under your logic, no one should ever be disappointed with a signing ever without it being distrust in the manager?

Or maybe Jose isn't that interested and it's just a clickbait article/rumor?

Assesment? Judgement? Semantics me thinks.

I'm just saying, if Mourinho's purchases him, it's because he's concluded Dier is the right man for our midfield.

No one can argue with Mourinho's purchases last summer. If Mourinho gets his first targets, I'd always trust his conclusion, over that of a fellow supporter.

I don't particularly like Lukaku, but if Mourinho signs him, who am I to judge? I don't think Rodriguez would settle in Manchester, but again, if Mourinho thinks otherwise...

Nothing to suggest it's clickbait, multiple sources confirming such interest.

Just what we need, a midfielder who plays like a centre back.

I have given up hoping to see us create anything and get back into the match. Finding it more worthwhile to assess Dier.

Big improvement on anything available to Mourinho at the minute. Perfect platform for Pogba to create upon.

I hope you sign him. It'd be a pyrrhic transfer triumph - paying a vast sum to steal a fecking water carrier from a team that finished above you and are outgrowing their need for him anyway.

He'll be the kind of player Mourinho loves - The same way he loves Fellaini for his anti-footballling virtues.

It'd be grand if Dier was his vision for how to evolve your current side.

Pretty much agree with that assessment of Dier.

Chelsea spent a vast sum of money for a water carrier who finished above them in the league last season and won it this. Kante.

It's just the usual. A few papers have claimed it.

My guess is it's because he played in Portugal for a bit. Can't see him moving.

Both he and Wanyama were fantastic today.

Two defensive midfielders, who win the ball back and distribute it to their attacking quartet or full backs, who play high up.

They are obviously leagues apart
