EPL Title Race 20/21

If, and it's a giant if with that prick Dyche in the way, we beat Burnley then Anfield is a free swing in my eyes and we should go for it with zero fear.

How so many overrated Liverpool this season and still are.

Liverpool will miss top 4. We will win the league!
No white text?

Liverpool still the favourites, they should really have won tonight but somethings not right with them, but feel like they will flick that switch any moment, so let’s hope we can get ahead before they do! It’s actually pretty handy we play them next.

Mate they peaked two seasons ago and have been on the decline ever since. Even though they won the league last season, they were better the year before. Still a good side obviously, but this certainly won't be the last game they lose this season.

You always beat them at Turf Moor, it's Old Trafford where they have the hex over you for some mad reason. Don't think you've won a game v them at home since they came back up.

I presume the Manchester derby will be near end of the season, that will be pretty big I suspect.

I know Man. United have been brilliant away from home so far but you've still got to go to Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Spurs, Arsenal so got the toughest away run out of all the teams given Liverpool and Man. City have got a few of those out of the way already. Wolves aswell is always a dodgy one at Molineux for you aswell.

Going to need to win majority left at OT I think.

Anyone who gets to 85 points win this. Could even be just 80 needed so very interesting second half of season ahead.

Think we are in for an exciting wide open title race, I would probably lean on man city as favourites with their defence this season.

Think this January transfer window could make all the difference for the likes of us(striker/right winger), man city(striker) and liverpool (defender).

Be

Because we cant convince ourselves we have a fantastic chance to win the league so its always someone elses to lose.
Pretty much which get annoying to read after a while.

This thread has gone from overrating Liverpool's chances this season to City. Sure one can say City or Liverpool were favorite at any moment this season but these talks of them running away with it while us(the most consistent this whole year out of the 3 teams) aren't even worth a mention is ridiculous to hear.

City finally put in a good performance against Chelsea after God knows how long this season and they're suddenly expected to run with it.

Even last season post covid break they were slipping and it has carried over to this season as well compared to what they been playing like for a few years pre covid.

Liverpool have a dip in form but they are still playing fantastic football. With Thiago around they'll be getting close to 80% of possession, so once they score first, they will be out of reach.

One thing is, I doubt they can sustain that energy for the entire season. This game vs Southampton has been insanely intense.

City don't look convincing to me. They've found a gold formula for defending though.
Liverpool don't look convincing at all. Fantastic football because of possession? They've hardly created proper goalscoring chances against Southampton, Newcastle and Westbrom. How is that convincing.

They've only managed 1 shot on target against Southampton tonight and haven't looked like scoring in all their recent draws either.

Nothing convincing about Liverpool this season.

Burnley is a must win. To win the league we have to be consistent against lesser teams.
Liverpool game will not matter that much, to do it in the league we have to be consistent against small teams. That was always like that. It is a long season so one win or loss against Liverpool will not decide a thing.

People are afraid of City now, as if they woke up and have just seen that they have 2 games in hand. They will be in the mix for sure but they are not that good. They miss someone clinical upfront. They will drop point againt team who park the bus I think. They have not enough firepower.
Chelsea played right in their hand and it was more of a feck up then a brillant City of few years back. After the first goal Chelsea just downed tools I think.
City will probably be upfront after the end of january but we will play the same teams until the season end so we will just have to keep our heads down and get the results.

It is too early right now but we are in the mix and with the best position possible at this point, top if we win against Burnley so lets stay positive. First time we are in this position since forever it feels !

I completely agree, still think they’re the team to beat though.

Delighted we are where we are and really hope we push on, but Liverpool and City of course are the teams who will push us.

They had enough chances to win today, or draw at least. They won't be missing them forever.

They play lightning quick football, still believe they are winning this season race.
What? Were you watching the game? 1 shot (a weak one) on target the whole game and you call that enough chances to win the game.

I notice an increasing number of posts talking about why United can’t win it.

And do what exactly? We are strong and have depth in literally every area. It’s not always signings signings.

Unless any serious injuries occur, we have enough until the summer I think.
For gaping them even harder? Title is not won yet and we still lack quality in DM/RB/RW. Any strengthening there would help our title bid.

That's the CAF in a nutshell. Always feeling sorry for ourselves and going through long essays to prove that we suck.

Makes a nice difference doesn't it?

2017 - Chelsea ran away with it.
2018 - City ran away with it.
2019 - Liverpool/City miles ahead and keep winning in the second half of the season.
2020 - Liverpool have it won by Christmas.

This is actually exciting for a change. I'd argue right now that any or Liverpool, City and United can win it.

We have a big squad this season with quality in depth and so far we've being doing well. We've gone through this busy period shuffling the team with no drop in quality.

Depth and reinforcement this window is not something we currently need. The squad is solid.

Throwing money just for the heck of it is just plain wasting.

Suddenly my prediction of Liverpool winning it comfortably seems much less likely although the season is long they look much more beatable this year and it all really started with the injury to Virgil. I wouldn't be surprised if they still won it in the end but for sure this season is blown far wide open and most definitely not a one horse race like last year.

If by some miracle we managed to take the title home ourselves oh my... I just can't see it happening though.

You're in the race for sure given your general league form in pretty much all of 2020 so yes take it as a compliment.

It’s going to be a great 2nd half of the season. Anyone of 6 teams could win it really. A few clubs get struck down with COVID and it gets spun on its head again.

We’ve wondered if the Leicester team will move everyone into the new training ground, as they all have a bedroom there. They could really self isolate then.

Think it'll be between Liverpool and City, can't see us in this same position with 10 games to go, but I do enjoy seeing us this high up the table  it's been a while

Still feel Liverpool are the favourites

City may be about to take advantage after that performance yesterday as they do strike me as a team that play half arsed when they know the league has gone but are relentless when it's on but then all it was was 1 win against a poor Chelsea side that made Arsenal look great the week before as well

As for us we're obviously the outsider, still massive question marks (in my head) over the consistency and quality at both ends of the pitch

Spurs, while they've 'blown it' once they're now right back in it as well. They'll always have a chance on their day with Mourinho, Kane and Son

Sometimes what you see is what you really get. The proof is there to see. We're the best performing team in the league throughout all of 2020, so all these talks about us being expected to fade away while City (who finally put in a great performance against Chelsea Lord knows after how long) and Liverpool (who've looked like they wouldn't score recently even if the games went on for days) will just run away with the title this season are absurd.

How about just trusting what you see and go from there instead of trying to convince oneself that United sucks because they were underpar the last few years.

A whole year is enough proof to claim consistency. Sure the odd defeats and draws have popped up here and there yet we've still shown more consistency than anyone throughout a whole calendar year.

Taking into consideration the facts stated above, claiming that we'll simply fade away while the 2 teams less consistent than us will just run away with the title is ridiculous.

I think they looked poor in most games. They look much worse at defending and it was even with Van Dijk.

We have been poor too, but look like actually improving. We have a better attack as well.

You're actually doing the best this season at riding out the fixture schedule in the PL at least and that's what is winning this title so it looks promising so far. I still feel like this season is one too early for this United side and Liverpool will pip you and City to it but you will be strong contenders next season. This Liverpool side has hit their peak and is now in a period of minor rebuilding, City is in a period of major rebuild and your side is getting to the end of the rebuild and almost at its peak.

This is where I feel we're at as well, frustrating as the title is there to be won this season but a year too soon for us. Though even next season is still dependent on the level of investment we needed but didn't get last summer

I don’t think both United & city are on different stage, I think both are on the similar stage with city slightly ahead. Jesus had his time at City and PL to finally step up to take Aguero’s spot. Gundogan & Bernardo Silva also had his time at city and PL to finally step up take David Silva’s spot.
  • Jesus & Rashford are on the same age (23)
  • Martial is 25 and Sterling is 26.
  • City‘s Gundogan, Bernardo, KDB and United’s Pogba & Bruno are in their prime age
  • Defense on the similar age, although they have better depth on centre backs which to me they are probably done with the centre backs transfer while we are still in searching for another centre back.
  • They got mix of under 25 and 30 or over players with international caps (Torres, Rodri, Mahrez, Fernandinho, Aguero) like us (James, McTominay, VDB, Mata, Matic, Cavani)
  • With Greenwood and Foden are being slowly get their chances.

Years of disappointment has taken its toll. I for one am very optimistic (based on the evidence of 2020) but I get everyone's reluctance.

The Villa game made many of us, myself included, realize that the trophy hunt is in fact ON.

This can go sideways, but for the first time since Ferguson abandoned us and fed us to the wolves of Moyes we're now very much in the conversation about who will lift the trophy at season's end. We all understand that there are many bears in the forest, but here we are with a legitimate shot at knocking Liverpool of its perch once again.

The important question for management right now is whether we invest in strengthening the squad right now to improve our chances of lifting the PL trophy. I say yes, we must.

I’m more worried about the Berties tbh. They have only let it 13 goals which is pretty damn phenomenal, and if they win their games in hand they will be only 1 point behind.

We also have a significantly harder reverse big game fixtures in the 2nd half. Spurs away, Chelsea away, Arse away, City away. Getting only 2/12 from those fixtures at home can prove very costly for us come the end of the season. We need to up our defensive game big time and keep on winning the games we should be winning. In an ideal world we should have about 5pt more by now.

Nevertheless, let’s get the Burnley game out of the way first, us failing to capitalize on rival’s dropping points has been a recurring theme the last few seasons, about time we change that.

That's what i'm trying to get my head around too.
All this talk of our inconsistencies while we are the most consistent team for ages.

I think so as well, but the bookies disagree

City 10/11
Liverpool 11/5
United 7

A lot will depend on whether Liverpool can get a good CB in January

We've won 1 at OT against those bastards since they came up, think it was a Chris Smalling brace in 2014/15

I have a feeling we're going to smash Burnley 5-0, which almost certainly means we'll lose 2-1
