EPL Title Race 20/21

Another piss take of a title for Liverpool.

Cnuts are a machine.

Wankers get to play every away game in a library whilst having the advantage of home support at Anfield.

After their despicable behaviour at the start of the UK pandemic when they flooded the north-west with the virus from the worst-affected region in the second-worst affected country in Europe when Atletico came to town, they should be made play behind closed doors for a full season as punishment, not fecking actually be the beneficiaries this season.

A joke.

I'm loving the animus and what comes across as a healthy pathological hate for all things Liverpool behind this sentiment but I don't think it's gonna fly. If they did do it deliberately it's odd they targeted Newcastle.

If the Premier League had the balls to make it a level playing field and ban all supporters until every team can have fans in stadia again, I reckon we’d be right bang in this race.

Absolutely idiotic in its current guise, however, with certain teams having a distinct advantage over the rest.

Whether it's ban or unbanned supporters, Liverpool will still be the big favourite. Their players on paper are just better. They have the best keeper in the league, best pair of full backs in the league, even without Van Dijk, their centre backs are not worse than the other top 5 teams, best deep playmaker in the league with two world class wingers/wide forwards.

Didn't they win 6/7 at Anfield BDC over the two seasons?

Opponents just get in a trance at Anfield and are two down before they know it or miss chances at crucial times as Spurs did at 1-1.

People are looking at the date (December) and thinking that the season is more complete than it actually is. 13 / 14 matches is still too early and I think you have to wait until around at least the half way stage to make a proper judgment.

My gut feel is that Liverpool are favourites, but United, City, Leicester, Spurs, Everton and Chelsea are all in the picture and could win it in this freakish season, but it will take an unexpected turn of events.

From a United point of view, I do think we have great squad depth and the players look fit. We have a chance but it is a long shot. I prefer people to continue writing us off.

As much as it pains me to say it, I see the Scousers winning quite comfortably with a couple of games to spare. Their home form is exceptional and in a season where teams are losing points left right and center at home, that’s a big edge.7

I think even without fans Pool win this with second team 10-15 points behind but we'll see. However will be interesting if Everton, Villa or Leicester can sign 1-2 decent players in January. Could be easier for them to improve in certain areas unlike City or Chelsea.

Has to be said that the title is ours to lose. All the other contenders are basically top four contenders who have the possibility of a title race thrust upon them due to there being only one favourite, and we haven't taken it out of sight like we did last season, and no other clear rivals stand between any of them and us.

City ought to have been that rival but don't look it.

I can see liverpool winning comfortably, they have had some major injuries and yet they are still sitting at the top of the table 4 points clear

Cool.

Don’t feck it up.

Aston Villa are on 22 points after 12 games, so 2 games in hand vs Liverpool on 31 points.
If they won those 2 games, they'd go 2nd! (Anyone know who those games are against?)

Seems as though their board and manager have done an amazing job over the summer after they came so close to getting relegated last season.

City and Newcastle

I used to think Liverpool winning the title was the second worst outcome out of all possible outcomes. But having lived through it once, I actually don't care. They're clearly miles better than the rest and I learned to ignore and block out the nauseating out of propertion love-in that inevitably follows.

I felt really sick by your win over Spurs the other night. It's exactly those games other challengers need you to lose to have a chance.

Your underlying form over past 2.5 seasons in unprecedented in Premier League football history, so even if you take a 10% hit, it still requires other teams to also increase their long term PPG average. Because of this 2.5 year form, your players also have deep experience in playing at such a high level.

Given that long term injuries to key players hasn't had any major impact on results, it will take an extraordinary sequence of events for you to relinquish the league. A real shame that this years league will also be adorned with a big fat * ;)

They have a phenomenal player in Grealish. Wish we could have purchased him in the Summer. He's simply on a different level. However, I think he's more suited to City style of play as he holds onto the ball than would suit our style of play under Ole.

Do you seriously think that it’d make any difference to our home form if we didn’t have fans there? We haven’t lost a home game in the league for three and a half years. I don’t know the exact number of home games we’ve played in the league without fans, but I do know that we’ve won all but one of them.

Do you think having fans at Old Trafford would’ve changed your defeats to Palace, Spurs and Arsenal? I don’t, just like I don’t think we would’ve had a better result at Fulham had there been no fans there.

Don't think itll be too close in the end tbh. I'm sure City will pick up consistency eventually and become 2nd. I do think we're the best of the rest in terms of what we can do squad wise, but maybe not in terms of consistency. Liverpool unfortunately far and away the best side, even without Van Dijk.

Newcastle home and City away.

Don’t worry, this season will be tough for them as well. We just have to focus on winning our games and forget about the table. Then we will be fine.

That Pool goal vs Spurs still bugs me. And Bergwijn misses. When i think that people wanted draw there

The no fans is obviously having a massive bearing, why else would there be so many more away wins than ever before? It's not just us who have been better away than at home

It's clear that Liverpool are the best team in the league. The fact that they are top despite losing VDV is a testament to that.

I think for the other teams, its a race to be the best of the rest. From United's pov, i'm not even thinking about a title race as I think this squad has some way to go before we are title challengers. For one, we really need to improve our defense and stop leaking so many goals. But for now, i'm just going to enjoy the progress, enjoy the wins, the goals. I just hope this is not another false down as we've seen countless times since Fergie retired. I'm not expecting us to win the league, but a strong finish in the league and domestic cup will do me just fine!

By the time the reverse fixtures come around, there may well be more fans in the grounds than there is now so Liverpool would be disadvantaged. We could have played in front of 2000 home fans against Spurs, but they may be allowed 4000 in when that match comes round. I know that's unlikely due to when the game is and the current situation in London but I'm just using that as an example.
It's not just us that has fans, Brighton do as well and they couldn't beat Sheffield United

Is this gonna be record low points for league winners? Is this gonna be the most random season ever? All teams are different versions of Leicester?

All teams have been trashed once at least, no team has dominated, and there is the Covid factor. Many players can suddenly become unaviaible for couple of weeks

No, I think the winner will be in the mid 80s or so. Think in 99 we won it with 78-79 pts

I think we’d have had a chance if not for yet another feck up in the transfer window. I know some people will argue that we strengthen the squad, which we did, but we didn’t sign a single starter. Had we done that and fixed either our issue on the right or at centre back I think we’d already be looking in better shape. As it is, it’s likely going to be a 5 or 6 way fight for the best of the rest.

It was annoying but at least it's de-railed Tottenham.
Not that they were ever winning it - but they could have put themselves clear of us and carried on with the momentum.

Not really, Liverpool are at ~85pts now. Lowest is 96/97 75 pts. In fact highest Manchester United is 91 pts when 38 games per season.

I'd be surprised. We won the 96/97 season with 75 points. Surely Liverpool will do better than that.

The Crystal Palace win was only their 2nd away win of the season. So some big questions and away game weakness.

If Liverpool end up losing this (and it's a big if), this season will definitely be our biggest opportunity in recent memory to win the title. We should then go and win at Burnley which is a challenge in itself, so that there will be no pressure to win at Anfield. It will then be completely different game when you know a draw will do.
