English cricket thread

Archer needs to bat at 11 from now on. Cannot handle spin at all from a defensive perspective.

He doesn't seem much good at pace either - thought he was an all rounder.. he bats like a 10.

Overton looks a pretty organized batsman.

Surprised Australia aren't putting more pressure on these batsman and saying fck it to the runs, not like England will get the needed runs. Sacrifice them to get the wickets

England’s lower order has shown more composure & patience than their top order. It helps they have nothing to lose, but still...

Yep, these two are at least attempting to bat like test batsmen, some of the other batsmen could do with taking a leaf out of their book mentally at least.

As someone who has only very recently started watching cricket, and learning as I’m going along. Could somebody please explain how does it become a draw if England survive, despite a huge disparity in runs?.

Australia are wasteful.

"In order to win a Test match, the side bowling last must take all 10 of the opposition's wickets, otherwise the match will be drawn, regardless of the scores because the batting side's innings is not complete."

You have to bowl each team out twice to get a result no matter how many runs you get. Only then do the runs come into play.

Because Australia won’t have finished the match by bowling us out and getting all 10 wickets. If you don’t get the wickets then technically the game is still on (unless it’s been declared in a winning position of course

Cheers!

If (and it's a big if) England manage to salvage a draw out of this i can't for the life of me see how they can pick a team that can win the last test. The batting has been flawed for a while but the bowling options are really limited too. Overton has never seen an International bowler, Stokes may not be able to bowl, Curran is not gonna rip through anyone and Stone, Wood & Anderson are all injured.

Going by the luck England has been having this summer won't be surprised if they draw this. Would be great for the series if they do.

Find some South African batsman to come bat for us. Worked in the past!

Shades of Cardiff in 2007 or whenever that was..

Anderson and Panesar.

Do England not have any batters coming through? I know batting on both sides besides Smith has been shocking. But Englands front order has always looked like collapsing for a while.

Genuinely amazed at the lack of yorkers from these bowlers.

Leach becoming more of a hero than Stokes if he sees this through?

Dom Sibley can’t be far off a call up opener for Warwickshire avg 55 this season.
Ollie Pope is fit again should bat 5 or 6 for England
Foakes is better at batting and keeping than Bairstow, why he isn’t in the side is diabolical

The odd ball aside, the Aussie bowling has been poor with the new ball.
