If Stokes wants to stick with pal Bairstow, should be as batsman only

I have had so many looks at that and can’t conclusively say it was not out. Nitin Menon makes my blood boil

Bairstow reminds me of David Seaman in his last couple of years when he dives like that. Full length dive, but somehow adding about 2 inches to him just staying in the same spot.

Australia did really well to essentially decide the series in their favor after the first two tests because they have not been very good at all since then

David James also became a master at launching himself absolutely nowhere by the end.

I see Bairstow is back to being target number one in here again  :wenger:

I bet you Foakes would have gathered it cleaner and made it a clear dismissal.
Who knows but it wasn't really a mistake by Bairstow.

Oh look, another catch from Bairstow.

Even more frustrating that these 2 have put up a good partnership since and look very comfortable now.
Still not as frustrating as the Smith 'catch' from Root when the series still hadn't been decided at Lords. Considering how close that test was in the end it was a huge call that was largely forgotten about because of the Carey and Bairstow incident that came later.

Pleased with the way we've stuck at it. Really hoping we can finish this off sharpish and get a lead. Mentally it always helps.

How is that not a mistake? A keeper is supposed to know how close they are to the stumps when gathering. If he collected it cleanly it would have been out

I expected more of this. Pleasantly surprised it hasn't happened often.

Yeah, and obviously whole day has still been very good from an England perspective. Plus Woakes and Wood have been good at returning the favour.

Umpire/DRS had a mare with this (even though the right decision was made on the wrong basis).

Allowing the tail to rip you apart after dispatching most of the big bats with relative ease. Good old England.

Why can't we bowl properly with good plans to tail Enders? It's exactly the same concept. A bloke stood at the other end of the pitch with a bat in his hand. Only a lot shitter. Just bowl the exact same plans. If it's good enough for the top 5 why's it not good enough for them? It feels like we reinvent the wheel every time.

It looks like the ball tracking was probably right as it's worked out that there was a deflection off the bat. The problem is the 3rd umpire not picking that up and relying too much on ultra edge - it basically just rolled the face and ball tracking made that the point of impact.

I'm still baffled by the time they where bowling at an injured Nathan Lyon who couldn't bend his legs and therefore couldn't do anything but backfoot shots... so they gave him literally nothing but short balls.

Looking back on the run out, I was probably too harsh on Bairstow. Smith was definitely out.

Everyone was too harsh on Bairstow, mainly because everyone needs a scapegoat it seems.

Get real he's been an poor keeper for a very long time. If he plays as a batsman fine but Foakes should have started the series anyway.

Love it. He's dropped a few catches, as has Carey. As has some of the fielders.

He's also picked up some brilliant catches too.
Also he's been handy for England with the bat.

I don't understand this scapegoat mentality I guess.

He's been a poor keeper for years not just this series. He can be great with the bat but Foakes would have been a far better pick and he also held up his end batting the last couple of years.

Fine if you can get Bairstow in as a batsman but Foakes is a far superior keeper.

England edge that day after Aussies edged the first. Similar in that it could have been better.

Another classic on the cards. Imagine if this was a decider, we've all been robbed!
