English cricket thread

I was literally typing that the conditions look great for batting. England really needed 350 in the first go

Warner surely has to be dropped for the next two tests. Nothing he has done warrants a place in the side.

Wood did extremely well but I do not understand the rationale of the middle/lower order coming in with Stokes set and swinging the life out of it. Your job is to sit and let Stokes hit the runs, not try and get in and leave Stokes not out at the other end!

Foakes being dropped before the series, does that mean we could not just call him up for the 4th test?

That seems to be the tactic they're going for generally. It's probably because Stokes has got the ability to play either way, so he can stick around playing it safer until he need to pile on the runs when past the middle order. He also seems to play better when allowed an hour or two to get his timing right.

Ideally he wouldn't be down to the last couple of wickets with 150 on the board though..

"It was England’s session, no question. But Australia are still on top in the game, and some would even say the series." Commentary from the Guardian. Surely everyone would say the series.

I have a pet peeve for when the phrases “some would say” or “arguably” are used incorrectly for things that are not open to interpretation at all.

Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably one the greatest footballers of all time…” No one needs to argue that.

I'm not sure what series they are watching. Australia are in pole position in game and series, full stop.
This test is in the balance. Couple of quick wickets would swing it back to England, so I don’t think you can really say Australia are that far ahead. England won’t be batting on a day 5 pitch.

Unfortunately they will be batting without application which has being their undoing

I think we are in big trouble here. Ali looks toothless and a bowler down. Think it's going to be a 300+ chase again.

Let’s worry about taking wickets first, otherwise we’ll be doing a rain dance just for the chance to tie the series, which is grim.

Get a fecking keeper..
You can just about get away with it in ODIs, but Test matches are very different..

Very costly.. Costs them more than Bairstow scores ..
Well.. not in this case.. but it will over the series.

Messi fans do apparently

The Australian middle order have not performed all Ashes, Smith's century aside.

At least we might get to see some Mitch Marsh soon...

For all the bowling and keeping discussions, the difference between the two sides has been Khawaja.
