English cricket thread

I get that it's swinging a bit, but I'm not sure this is the right tactic from Australia. We're used to a ball doing this in English conditions and looked a lot less comfortable with the constant short balls.

We're probably 120 away from a position where someone like Stokes can hit it to the finish so need to keep these two or Bairstow in until at least then.

I’ve said it so many times this test. Imagine this was back in the 90s, it’s feels like it’s been 50/50 right/wrong on the close calls. Although some haven’t even felt close.

With 3 unsuccessful reviews per innings I don't really see the issue. This is what the technology is for.

In that case get rid of umpires all together and use technology for every decision. The use of umpires call is also impacted by this.

Bit unfair that Green's getting wides for over head height when that's 4 foot above the surface.

Lyons absence is going to cost australia. There is nothing in the pitch for fast bowlers.

Technology for every decision would slow down the game too much. You still need umpires out there to keep order. But yeah, the traditional umpiring role is getting redundant at this level and that's a good thing.

Umpire's call is the only real issue with the current technology. I get why they had it a decade ago when hawkeye couldn't guarantee 100 % accuracy but in this day and age you just have to trust the technology. The technology is far more accurate than the human eye. If it's hitting the wickets it's out.

Yea, I know. He just looks small compared to the athletes out there and also bats quite hunched.

Have to admit that I thought he was shorter. Sport tends to exaggerate height differentials when you're surrounded by athletes like Green, Broad, and Starc.

Steph Curry looks like a dwarf but is 1.9m I think

It seems like Australia's strategy is to just hope England throw their wickets away.

England just need to not do that.

Great start by England. Still a long way out but I’m feeling that they will get very close if not win the game.

Edit : and just add I post this, Duckett goes. Maybe I should just stop posting in this thread

One more wicket in the next 100 runs and it's good night.

It feels like this one is on Stokes again. We need Bairstow to get us within 100, but I think Stokes is the one with the ability to know when to push. This is pretty long odds now I reckon.

Something would need to change in terms of the rules. You’d be halving the lengths of matches if anything hitting the stumps was given out. Without technology, it kinda worked because umpires wouldn’t give it if there was any doubt.

Anyway, that’s a killer blow. I’d have been tempted to chuck Broad on now to see if he can swing the bat and get the score down to 150 before Bairstow came in. Carey has been very good behind the stumps.

Lost count the amount of times so far this series that one team looks fairly comfortable and then BAM - I think we’ll let them back in

England losing a wicket after a drinks break. Never seen that one before.

All over by tea I think now. Needed a big hundred from Duckett and be within a hundred no more than 5 down to have a chance.

I mean, one quick wicket and I’d say it’s more likely to be over by lunch

Really liked Mark Taylor this series. He presents the Australian perspective without being riled up like Ponting & Mcgrath

Ball to the elbow, that must have hurt!

Never fails to amaze how cricketers refuse to show pain when hurt…. the complete opposite mentality compared to footballers.

Can Tongue stay in a while if he needs to or is he more like Anderson than Leach?

Hard to say as he hasn't batted all that much at FC level. I saw him bat live once and he looked 'limited'. I'd say he's a genuine number 10/11.
