That is more out than the Gill dismissal..
He had that ball firmly in his hand.. total control.

VAR is confusing in every sport.

I don;'t think this is out. But I'm with Ponting here. Cameron Green caught one and grassed it, and there was a lot of logical gymnastics about how it was out because he was 'in control' and that's whta the rule looks for. Starc was 100% in control there and just was stupid.

For me he’s completed that catch even before the ball touches the ground which is why I would think it’s a catch.

Yep and then even when it’s along the ground he’s got his fingers around the ball.

The completed catch for me is when you body has completed the movement that required making the catch... my instant reaction was that's not a catch, and I'm sticking to it, but I'm English

It is because they think he used the ball to control his body and without doing that he can’t control his body and the ball?

That one was out. The Green and Smith “catches” shouldn’t have been.

He touched the ball on the floor before his feet where planted. This one was right. Maybe the Gill one should have been not out as well.

I think the real answer is no one knows and they're just flipping a coin every time the ball touches the grass

I haven’t seen it yet but for me it’s not a catch

I haven’t been able to watch this afternoon. Sounds like Australia have been bowling really well to take those four wickets?

Gutted we lost so many early wickets.

All 4 wickets were proper. You can forgive and move on from those. It's the unnecessary ones we've gifted in this series that boggle and frustrate.

It was a catch. But he’s fecked up, simple as that. You take the faceplant to hold the ball off the floor.

I don’t think it is really going to make a difference anyway.

For me, he only has himself to blame. He didn’t need to ground the ball. In my opinion, if you ground the ball in the process of completing the catch like this, it shouldn’t be given out. Simply because that’s a cleaner way to make a decision and you’ll have less grey areas in future.

I get that it’s a natural human reaction to put your hands down to break your fall but it could have been avoided.

Agreed. We knock these off either way

I reckon the crowd reaction swayed that decision seeing the big screen replay

He's a seasoned player and cricket captain, tumble over sidewards, or as above, faceplant. He knows the score, thus why he himself isn't moaning as much as he could be.

I'd be stunned if Duckett, Stokes and Bairstow pull this off either way.

Can use all my NFL outrage of not knowing what a catch is and just shift it to Cricket now. In all honesty the sport that I have followed & played all my life that is not a catch but the Aussies have been doing this all summer

Starc laughing and doing the signal that it was out only to have it over turned was very funny though.

At the end of the day the most important thing is Glenn McGrath is absolutely fuming.

Just seen the replay, and that's not a catch. He literally grounds the ball to hold himself upright.

Right, can the women keep the series alive. 58-3 off 9 overs is not looking good :nervous:

But where's that in the rules.. there weere a lot of explanations of Green's catch of Shubman Gill being valid earlier in the season, and no one mentioned it.

Starc's catch looked pretty damn completed here to me
