Bazball is getting unfair criticism imo. Australia are just a better side.

The alternative England have is to ask these players to play a game they cant, or to recall the likes of Hameed, Burns, Sibley etc who have repeatedly failed. Sure, Bazball could be refined a bit but that will only happen with some trial and error.

There's worse ways to lose. The first test went down to the wire, the second England had half a chance at the start of the 4th innings. The decisive factor has been quality rather than strategy.

I think for the next test England need to give Jimmy a rest, and it's an opportunity to bring in some more pace (if any of the pace bowlers are actually fit). Also against this Australian attack and with an inconsistent top 3, England need to be able to bat down to 8 imo, so accommodating Woakes somehow or maybe Ahmed seems necessary.

I did try and say this after the 1st test they are just better, we are playing this way to try and win and not other way which was bound to lose, we can talk about the shortball shots but the Aussies did exactly the same today.

I've only seen the Brook ball today but that's not about batting approach that's a ball that will get most batters out

This Aussie attack will (and has) demolish any batting line up in the world. Bazball or not.

What is so hard to palette is that we could have been in a much stronger position in this test ,if not for the ridiculous end to day 2 and the collapse yesterday. We should have also won that first test. Long way back now.

Yep agree with this. Wood will be fit for the next match and England should aim to bring a spinner back at 8. Pope could be out with his shoulder so that will mean a change at 3.

This is the equivalent of Lionel Messi scoring three screamers and then a flukey deflected goal putting you 4-0 down. What's the difference between playing an attacking or defensive shot to a ball that's got your name on it? None whatsoever.

We're probably going to lose this and by a considerable margin but there's very little we've done wrong today. We've actually done well to give ourselves a sniff.

It goes back to ruining a good situation on the second day by giving away three wickets to a telegraphed short ball tactic.

Root at 3, Foakes back in, Jonny back up at 5 ahead of Stokes. Wood in for Jimmy, Moeen in for Robinson.

Cummins is a like a beast, he can literally do everything and hardly misses any game.
Commentators just said he had 5 years out with injury at the start of his career. Maybe that’s the answer! Get all your injuries out the way with early

Umpires calling wides on Green because Duckett is small whilst nothing was called on Green because he was tall and kept ducking

I'd go with this except Ahmed instead of Moeen. I'd have been against throwing Ahmed in before but at 2-0 down the pressure is off a bit, he has spent this test with the team and some time on the pitch as a substitute fielder which will have helped him settle too. He's the future, let's see what he's got. He's also a very decent batsmen, and Root can bowl some tidy stuff to release some of the pressure if the Aussies target him.

I can't see Broad doing three tests back to back. I think Robinson will get a bit lucky and stay in for that reason. Agree with your other changes.

That said I think they might go Lawrence.

I thought about Rehan but Simon Kerrigan’s debut has scarred me for life.

Just think we need to get Bairstow back into the space he was last year. Just batting and preferably not with the tail.

100%. Foakes has to come back in for me. Thought it was criminally unfair he was dropped in the first place.

Crawley, Duckett, Brook, Root, Bairstow, Stokes, Foakes, Moeen, Broad, Robinson, Wood.

That's what I'd imagine.

I don't know if Brook can bat three but I think they are anxious to get Johnny up to 5 where he can do more damage and give him more partners to bat with. We need a spinner who can bat at eight.

Real shame England couldn't get over the line first test. This series is decided now. Lords may as well be in Australia.

I would be happy with that to be honest.

I haven’t been able to watch this afternoon. Sounds like Australia have been bowling really well to take those four wickets?

Gutted we lost so many early wickets.

Stokes should just stop bowling full stop. It's a loss but if it impinges on his batting he has to do it.

Starc and Cummins did bowl amazing spells up front.
