English cricket thread

If the tail gets out quickly Australia might regret not getting a few more on the board while they had a chance.

Good ball that. Australia have batted themselves into a standstill, being 300 runs ahead the core batting order could have gone for their shots a bit more. Think the tailenders will definitely take a few more risks.

Hope the series doesn't descend into short ball bouncing only

I'd like to see one test with as close to a green top as can be

Australia have basically decided that time is what matters for them. They have scored 42 runs in this session so far in 2 hours

The interns at the BBC who have to put together an hour long highlights package won't have much to fill in the time as far as these two sessions have gone.

Good point from Punter about Lyon getting a concussion sub. Not saying that’s the plan, but if that happens, is that the “right thing to do”? Spirit of cricket and stuff.

India have done that once in the past. It’s obviously not fair but difficult to stop

This is a bit silly from Australia tbh making him run here

Not able to watch today but whatever are they thinking can happen are they playing for time thinking they can bowl England out in a full day tomorrow?

Also sending a one legged man out there is ludicrous and putting significant risks that are unnecessary

They will bat till tea now anyways. They could have declared when Hazlewood got out and would have had 10-12 minutes of bowling before tea

Nothing sums this series up more than a bloke on one leg playing the short ball quite well

I don't understand the Aussies sending him out, but I understand just spamming short balls at him even less.

The one thing he can currently do is stand straight up and wave his bat horizontally. Surely you just bowl full and make him bend his legs or get out?

They want to see out to tea and possibly hang around a bit after to give England as little time as possible. These two aren't going to score runs. The lead is maxed out as much as Australia can have now but as much time that can be taken away from England batting in the bazball way is good for them. England aren't going to try and draw the match if wickets fall.

Starc would be looking for a half century if he was allowed to take any runs. This is ridiculous

Pure stubbornness there at the end from both sides really. England get to the end of play today without losing a wicket and tomorrow is very interesting.
