English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

Bairstow is the leading run scorer in the first division. He should come in for Bell. But we are struggling on the openers front. Hales isn't exactly scoring loads of runs at the moment. Lyth should be given a further shot. Rashid should come in for Ali as well. Move Root to 3, Ballance at 4 then Bairstow in 5.

JR is playing very well where he is. I wouldn't move him.

Pretty sure Bairstow will come in but not sure who for. I suspect Ballance who sits far too deep at the crease, and they may change the order a bit.
To be honest if they had people ready to come in they could easily change 3 or 4, I mean Buttler hasn't exactly been great either with the bat.

Terrible batting collapse by England, but not entirely unexpected either. I just hope England go all out with changes mind. England's batting is very inexperienced. But there's a lot of talent there and these kind of days will only make them better test batsman in the future. Stick with them and they will eventually come good.

Yorkshire are well represented in the English team.

Root, Ballance, Bairstow, Lyth, Rashid..

Cook, Lyth, Root, Bell, Bairstow, Stokes, Buttler would be my top 7

Would have Bell ahead of Root if Bell was in form, but it'll be mentally scarring if England are 30-3 again.

Would drop Ali for a proper spinner ideally but Rashid does not look test quality yet.

Not convinced by Buttler either.

Bairstow in for Ballance, but Bell keeps his place?

Bell in 2015:
1/11 vs Australia
1/60 vs Australia
12/1 vs New Zealand
1/29 vs New Zealand
0/0 vs West Indies
1/DNB vs West Indies
143/11 vs West Indies

Seriously now. What is he still there for?

Ballance is averaging 50 with slightly better figures in 2015. Just seems to me like the wrong guy has been dropped...

Perhaps they're giving him time to recuperate, knowing that a continued poor run could ruin his future? At least with Bell you know he's battle hardened if nothing else, and will be retiring in a few years anyway so there's not really a career to ruin.

I think Bell is in the side over Ballance because the former has at least done it against Australia before. Ballance also has some really bad technical issues which Australia have worked out quite quickly.

I was expecting Bell to be given one more chance, maybe last one it might turn out if he flops again.

So Lyth and Bell score less runs then Ballance but yet it's Ballance who loses his place :wenger:

Hope he does enough to keep his place in the UAE squad. He was brilliant last time, scoring 51 runs at an average of 8.50.

Played one of the worst shots I've seen a top order batsman play in that series..

Turned up.. first or second ball went down the track and lofted to long off.

He loves that shot. Done it to Nathan Lyon frequently. Normally after he's looked comfortable against Mitchell Johnson.

Just a really frustrating player, probably the most naturally gifted in the England side but his application is appalling.

Been pissing it down in the Midlands all day today, either the test will be severely hampered by the weather or we should hopefully get a juicy pitch.

The interesting bit in his numbers from 2012 in that article is that in 77 innings, he has made 50+ in 21 innings. That's one 50+ in <4 innings. It is not awful at all if looked that way. The problem has been, he has been failing badly to get a start consistently otherwise and it is either a 50+ or getting out early. Worst bit is, he hasn't looked confident and focused during early parts. It will be shame if he goes out of team now and it ends his career because he has great natural talent. Same thing is happening/will happen in some form to India's Rohit Sharma.

Warner LBW to Anderson for 2 also used up a review for a decision that was plum.

Looks like a good start from England. If they get Rogers and Clarke relatively early too, then it will be very interesting to see how the next 3 of Australia, with very little international test match experience between them, do in that situation.

Clarke out now, 34/3 what a start! England must have their eyes on batting today and following a score of under 200.

Some umm interesting commentary from Shane Warne :

“Nothing like a good head. Nothing like a good head. Get that head up there, mate. It’s really important,” Warne said. “I don’t think you can change the toss, you can’t change that at all. It’s a great feeling when you call heads and a head would come up. It’s just great.”

I think Warine got some tbh.

Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy Anderson!
