English cricket 2015 - NZ, The Ashes, Pak and SA

Dang, England will have to bat out about 140 overs on a pitch that does seem to be keeping low, not gonna happen.

Take back my thoughts about thinking this is a decent pitch. The fact we made over 300, having our top order knocked over for next to nothing, suggests this is very flat.

If ever this England team was to be capable of batting out well over a hundred overs, this is the pitch to do it.

Most recent forecasts I've seen suggest we should get the overs in, so it very much looks like 1-1, unless Clarke is silly with the declaration, or England bat better than currently looks realistic.

Have to say, I like Alastair Cook.

One of the great plodders of the modern game. Takes a lot of shit, but the man has supernatural powers of concentration.

Thinking of other players who played like him -- Dravid comes to mind, who else?

Trott, Collingwood?..

Cook and Dravid the obvious standouts..

Chanderpaul trumps them all when it comes plodding around and boring people to death.

It's probably the worst test pitch I've seen myself.

Absolute dog of a pitch.

I suspect we're going to have 5 flat decs this summer. What's wrong with cricket boards thesedays?

"Right, that's just about it for Lyth," huffs Randy. "Aside from that hundred against NZ, he's been more a liability than an asset." Not looking good for "Peanut", it has to be said. He has an allergy to good balls (and not so good ones) outside off stump

Another Mitchell takes a wicket! Terrific delivery to start up.

Watson's career is surely finished given how Mitchell Marsh has performed.

Poor from Bell. Good delivery but you have to look to score some runs instead of just blocking.

The drop in standard by England in all facets of the game since Cardiff has been startling, guess it's to be expected with a young-ish side.

EDIT: Within reason of course mind, the drop off from Cardiff is just unacceptable.
