England v New Zealand 2013 Cricket

I've never really thought much of monty, can be great on the subcontinent but elsewhere I'm not keen.

Broad on a hattrick here, come on lad

Monty spins it a lot and at a good pace, and so purely from that perspective he will always get wickets and be dangerous, especially on spinning wickets. However, I get the feeling he's always spun it so much that he's never really had to work at his craft or think too much about it. He's never developed those subtle variations that the great spinners rely on.

He's brilliant on spinning tracks with another spinner in the attack, but as the main man on seaming tracks he can struggle.

Two wickets in quick succession from England, dangerously close to the New Zealand tail end. I think we will easy force the follow on here.

Got to get McCullum straight after dinner, he is bringing them back into it and not much to follow after him.

Monty the dick

Gone next ball with an incredible attempt to smack it for six

I think they shouldn't enforce the follow on.

Monty can not field for toffee

No damage done though, great innings with the ball by Broad with a six wicket haul, will be fantastic if he is back to his best for the ashes. Surely we will make them follow on.

Excellent figures from Broad. I'm not really sure why there would be any question over England enforcing the follow on here, its due to rain all of tomorrow afternoon in Wellington and more rain is due on monday. If the forecast is anywhere near correct there's nowhere near enough time to fit two innings in.

Brilliant catch and fantastic field placing. First wicket down.

Looks like Pieterson is injured. Probably Bairstow will come in for him. Lets hope the pitch is decent this time although I expect NZ will roll out another flat one to get a series draw.

you do realize that England were as lucky to escape the 1st test as NZ were the second?

We had a awful first day that almost cost us the match, that doesn't change the fact that it would look like the pitches are been made to make it difficult to win matches.

Basically same as post above, we had an awful first day, played some silly shots but in the 2nd innings showed what a flat pitch it really was. Pitches shouldn't play like that on the 5th day if there is to be a result.

Looks flat, bowling first an attacking move by Cook but seems like it will be hard work for the bowlers.

Agree, it looks very flat. Seems a strange choice at the moment. Commentators are saying he might have been thinking if they follow on they would have had to bowl twice however strange to be thinking that at this stage. Must have been some thinking behind the choice to bowl.

I never expected such flat pitches in New Zealand. If there's nothing for the bowlers, it just makes everything so boring.

Pitches like these will be the death of test match cricket, apart from a couple of decent sessions it has been a very boring series.

There needs to be a real incentive from the ICC for result pitches, because the incentive for the grounds is to ensure cricket on 5 days. For the TV spectators don't mind a result in 4, so its something the ICC has to get tough with.

These tiny boundaries ain't helping on this pitch either. Only missed one session of the last match but somehow don't think I will be watching as much of this one.

I wouldn't mind pitches which got flatter as the game went on. But to have a flat pitch from the first session of a five day game makes it boring.

There really needs to be something in it for the bowlers the first day or so. Then the pitch can become flatter for the batsman until day 4 when spin comes into play. For me that would be the perfect pitch for Test cricket, but it's easier said than done.

Best thing about this test series is how easy it's made it to go to sleep when it's on.

I really want to turn this off but after watching several hours of shit I'm petrified I will miss something good when I turn it off. Even though deep down I know nothing good is going to happen.

These England bowlers seem to hate getting driven. Just pitch it up a bit, on this kind of pitch get hit for four through the covers rather than behind square. Try and take the pitch out of it a bit.

Funny how England were supposed to absolutely clobber NZ in this series, but now they're playing well, it's due to a flat track and nothing else.

NZ are developing a good decent side. Williamson, McCullum, Taylor are all very good batsmen and they've a pretty good bowling attack. Wouldn't hurt to praise the opposition once.

Disagree.

Williamson, Mccullum, Taylor have been there for ages but NZ regularly fold.

It's the pitches.

On paper, for the past 3-4 years, NZ batting has looked pretty good always. But they just don't have the mentality for tests.

Nah the pitches are the same as they were when SA visited them last year.

SA nearly managed to defeat them in the third test at Wellington inspite of having 1/4th of the match being rained out and also defeated them in the second test comprehensively.

I don't think they would change the pitches so dramatically in the past one year or so. England's bowling without Swann has largely looked listless in this series so far.

These pitches offer nothing. I doubt even SA could cause much trouble, I do think the English could do more but they have short windows of opportunity and any inroads they do make would be down to taking advantage of mental weakness. If you want to bat the runs are there. I'm a bit shocked because when I was younger I was certain the ball used to swing and seam a lot more in New Zealand. IMO the ICC needs to act fast in regards to the pitches, too many substandard ones.

I also thought New Zealand had very English like pitches. They definitely need more bowler friendly wickets even more so due to weather uncertainties.

Can't help but think they laid flat pitches to ensure the matches go 5 days and so all the grounds and the NZ cricket board picks up a a larger than normal packet from higher attendances.

Probably wrong mind.

Wait until NZ tour England in a few months.

Then you'll see how flat these decks are.

Appaling test series so far.
