England v New Zealand 2013 Cricket

Wait until NZ tour England in a few months.

Then you'll see how flat these decks are.

Appaling test series so far.

Would you deny that English bowling lineup has looked a bit flat in this series?

To some extent, but we bowled well in the second test and would have won that comfortably weather aside.

Anderson and Broad have had decent series - Finn and Monty have been dissapointing, although i've never rated Panesar anyhow.

I also thought New Zealand had very English like pitches. They definitely need more bowler friendly wickets even more so due to weather uncertainties.

Sidebottom took about 50 wickets last time we were in NZ, no way he would be doing that now.

And in regards to the pitches, any pitch where Steven fecking Finn can face over 200 balls is not a good Test pitch.

Funny how England were supposed to absolutely clobber NZ in this series, but now they're playing well, it's due to a flat track and nothing else.

NZ are developing a good decent side. Williamson, McCullum, Taylor are all very good batsmen and they've a pretty good bowling attack. Wouldn't hurt to praise the opposition once.

About as funny as how India were to clobber England when they toured there. :smirk: You cannot really blame people for the predictions, NZ are a low ranked team and had a dreadful series against SA and England played really well in India so you can understand why England were favourites and whitewashes were predicted. I thought England would win but it would be close.

But I'm sorry to say the pitches are an absolute disgrace, this is no way to get people's interests in test cricket. Day 5 has been the same as day 1 and barring a batting collapse with lazy shots, wickets have been difficult to get.

No one is saying NZ are rubbish but their test ranking speaks for itself. They have 3 world class players in McCullum, Taylor and Vettori. Williamson is getting there and I think he is a great talent. The bowling attack while is promising, still needs vast improvement. They are a good ODI side however converting that form to tests is difficult for them. They have batted well in the series however I will reserve judgement until they play a few more series (on some more testing pitches) and see how the results pan out then.

I remember them having green wickets with the ball seeming all over the place. I remember England touring their last and fantastic test matches between the teams. This series has been a far cry from that.

Nah the pitches are the same as they were when SA visited them last year.

SA nearly managed to defeat them in the third test at Wellington inspite of having 1/4th of the match being rained out and also defeated them in the second test comprehensively.

I don't think they would change the pitches so dramatically in the past one year or so. England's bowling without Swann has largely looked listless in this series so far.

They are not the same as when SA toured. The pitch in this test is a drop in and there has been no test played in stadium for 6 years. The short boundaries are a joke as well. Says it all when Peter Fulton averaging just over 20 is made to look like Don Bradman out there!

I find this criticism of Cook from ex-pros a little bizzarre. What ever decision he made this pitch is a road and runs will be scored I don't see why he's being criticised for gambling and trying to force a result.

When NZ declare/get out England are going to be batting on this same flat pitch only a lack of appliction is going to get wickiets on this.

Good nut from Anderson to get rid of Williamson, need a few now.

This. I don't think he had any idea he could do that.

Actually good nut does not do it justice, absolute pearler.

I thought that Finn spell was still fairly pedestrian...One good ball to Mccullum, and a strangle down the leg side, that was it...

Agree on the other point though, another 60-3 session and it is game on.

More realistically i can see Brendon cutting loose.

Just about gives England a chance I guess, but with 2 days virtually gone they'd have to score runs at a much quicker rate than they have all series, take advantage of the short boundaries. It's a shame Pieterson's out for this one, could really do with his ability to quickly add runs on the total.

Still, most important to build a good start and avoid a collapse, then see from there if its a matter of playing for a win or a draw.

Ridiculously poor from England today.

Pitch developed a bit, still good for batting. Good bowling NZ, poor batting England.

Prior gone! Huge wicket and the new ball is due now. England could be following on...

McCullum has made a mistake here I think. Normally you'd say not enforcing the follow on is the sensible decision but I think he's given England a sniff.

We'll have to bowl and bat far better than we have at any point in the series so far but if New Zealand can be bowled out for under a 100 in the morning next session it's chaseable.

Yeah that whats everyone said after day one and that's how it looked.

And since third day is usually the best time for batsmen to play in the test, it's been proven wrong.

Yup. Surprised by McCullum's decision. England could still win this match and series. Cook has been quite average so far this series, he's due a big one.

Judging by the Cricket we have played thus far, it will require miracle's to win or draw it from here.

Horrendous.

Man from going from the No.1 test team in the world to losing to New Zealand

very very poor.

England look resigned to defeat here.

And substandard in the field, again.

Scrub that, fantastic catch by Belly.
