England v New Zealand 2013 Cricket

Excellent job from the openers, there might not be much in the pitch, but given the deficit and first innings score it would have been very tough mentally. As it is we're not quite out the woods yet, a collapse like the first day would still see us lose, but if we bat sensibly its hard to see us losing 9 wickets in 2 sessions (albeit if we score as slowly as we did that last session, New Zealand could still catch our score with under a session remaining.

Excellent comeback. Just highlights how awful was that first innings.

I think Nick Compton is treated very harshly. He was one of the better batsmen here in India, but he's treated like he's keeping the seat warm for Root.

Very nice fightback so far, however after years of following England I am always prepared for a collapse. Went to sleep at 2 thinking getting to close with the loss of 1 wicket would be brilliant and lo and behold that's what they've done. We'll need to bat another 70 overs I reckon.

Would Steve Finn get in the Aussie top 6?

Yes, IMO.

He's got better technique than that idiot Hughes.

Hopefully the next test has a pitch that offers the bowlers something. This is not the type of pitch I'd expect in New Zealand.

Very predictable this would happen (i did on the last page, and put money on it!).

We'll still cruise this series 2-0 as the next two pitches will offer far more.

That first innings debacle is borderline helpful in keeping the England side wary of complacency.

50 for Finn, this one's a wrap.

EDIT:Oops, Trott's gone and got himself out.

KP gone. Another couple now and we could have an interesting conclusion...

They'd have to bowl us out in the next 20 0vers tops.

Not a chance, can see us losing another soon, but we'll be ok.

Finn finally scores a run after 72 minutes  :boring:

Finn finally gone. Brilliant resistance from him. Very boring watch, but did exactly what his team needed.

And a run out! Come on you fecking Kiwis, make this interesting.

Why the feck have the fake Aussies put us in on this??

Like batting on the fecking M6.

Don Bradman got out cheaply with a soft shot - again.

Negative decision on his part, i think he's aware that they will be up against it after not capitalising on such a good position in the first test.

They are simply an average outfit.

I don't think it was negative. Look at it this way, last time they batted first they got skittled for 45 by South Africa, last time they bowled first they knocked England over (on a very flat track) for 167. I can see why he did it. It's just a bad choice with the sun coming out and this pitch having a bit more pace to it. Perfect for scoring good runs fast right now.

Compton gone.

Will be interesting what KP does. A bit of criticism went his way after the first test, this pitch looks just as flat so he'll be expected to score runs...

Pietersen usually gets one big score every series in the midst of inconsistency. He'll either be out for <15 or get a 100 I reckon.

Compton has all but sealed a starting berth in the Ashes.

And well deserved too. I think he looked good in India without getting a huge score. Root is still not ready to open.

Good start for NZ this session, 2 wickets in the first hour and a half is good considering how much they struggled yesterday. All on KP now...

Still potential for a lot of runs from Root & Prior, disappointed by the Series Bell is having so far he seemed to be in good form coming into it.

Go to bed lads, work in the morning.

I've got a few beers in and will cover your absence - i've got a lecture at 4pm, so it's not all easy going ;)

Pay your taxes, c'mon.

Not in modern cricket - if you bat at 8 you need to be able to make runs.

An average of 25 is needed IMO.

So you would rather Woakes was in there then? Because of the other England seamers around the first team setup he's the only one who could guarantee runs, and he's just not a Test class bowler. And Swann is a decent enough number 8 in any case when we have the full first XI available...
