England Tour of India

No you were trying to start a discussion so England would be moaning about the pitch. Just like your anti England posts previously. Like I said you have history in the cricket threads and others have called you out as well. It's test cricket on a challenging pitch against 3 top quality spinners. India haven't lost a home series since 2012. India haven't batted yet and you are criticising the pitch?

Now you've been called out on it, you dont like it. I couldn't give a toss about what you report

“Anti England” Get a fecking grip. I’m rooting for England in this series. Imagine being so desperate that you’re cooking up false narratives.

Genuinely embarrassing that one moment you're moaning about a cricket post in a cricket thread 'derailing' the thread and the next you're posting a gif like that in the same thread with the sole intention of derailing and wumming. Peak hypocrisy but not surprising from a diehard troll football fan.

why no Rehan?

Far more confusing Hartley has bowled 9 overs and none from Root?

Rehan will likely leak runs, but then that argument doesn't really work with Hartley bowling like this.

Weird.

Why is this guy still bowling? This kind of economy would have you taken out of the attack in an ODI ffs.

I imagine they're waiting for the ball to get old before bringing in Rehan. Jaiswal is one of the few lefties in the Indian team, so Root should have had a go by now.

Feel for Hartley, no way should he be in the team.

Rehan looks to have better control instantly.

Picked the googly there and top shot

I reckon this session has probably cost us the test match. Terrible captaincy from Stokes. He's a genius but got it badly wrong tonight.

Just cannot for one minute understand nine Hartley overs. NINE.

9 overs, 63 runs and all your reviews (?) spent on one spinner in what was set up to be a low scoring game for England to have any chance was utterly bewildering. I get backing players and it's a difficult entry to test cricket, but Stokes should have been more brutal there.

Starting with Root and going to the newbies when the ball was softer would have been a better choice.

Not only that but versus a fluent left hander who was targeting him? It's not even a good match up!

Yup, would have done him absolutely no favours either. Doubt being taken off after 3/4 overs would have left him feeling any worse/better than he currently is.

Ahmed also getting the treatment now. England's bowling options are not good enough for top-level test cricket, regardless of the pitch/country.

We have a perfectly good attack and options in reserve in home conditions.

It's a good day of cricket but India massively pulled ahead in the last session

I'm not entirely convinced that's the case any more with Broad gone and Anderson surely soon to follow. All out other best quicks are the wrong side of 30 and everyone else is either injury prone/not good enough to dislodge the likes of Woods and Woakes. The less said about our spinners the better.

It was high quality test cricket all day until England bowled their spinners. No contest.

Shows why everyone predicted 4-1/5-0.

If this was the quality of England's spinners then playing Anderson or Robinson would surely have been a better option.

Yes!! Root as third spinner was always going to be enough.

Yeah the problem is England don't have an attack for these conditions, that's really what it comes down to. I think they would have been better off if they had Dawson and Jacks maybe. Or just bowl a workhorse seamer

A GIF posted in response to you is derailing the thread  :wenger: . I'm a diehard troll fan because I've posted some funny memes, ok. :wenger:

You keep going mate, I'm sticking to discussions about cricket.

Classic case of picking spinners for the sake of it rather than picking your best bowlers. Even more damning when Root can bowl but Stokes can't. 1 seamer and 4 spinners, the seamer can't bowl longer spells and 2 of the spinners are rookies. Just pick a donkey like Robinson who can give you longer and controlled spells in case the spinners are getting tonked.

How is Hartley even in the squad? His FC batting record is better than his bowling record which is damning for someone who is considered a bowler and not an all-rounder.

They're obviously not great spinners but I think it's a little unfair to completely write them off after day one as well. Hartley hasn't even played much at county level, probably never opened the bowling before and is understandably going to be nervous. Hopefully he'll settle down now that first spell is done. Leach hasn't played a match in any format for nearly 8 months, can't really expect him to be at his best immediately either.

I was ready to have my annual ding dong with @croadyman but he really didn't moan like a nobhead that much today. We go again tomorrow, looking forward to it.

will look forward to it. i’ll bring people updates of both contests via tms (tits match special.)

That's fair but it's kind of nuts that he's the go-to option for England. We should have far more established players ready for a test like this.

I thought Leach looked pretty good actually. Certainly didn't look like he'd been out for the best part of a year.

My mum didn’t make it to the stadium in time. I’m not sure what would have been worse, missing the whole day, or getting there at tea and watching India smash it around for a couple of hours.

40 wickets in around 20 matches last season so did quite well at FC level and they were thinking with his height he could offer more purchase. We are obviously lacking in spinning talent so we are picking from bare bones. Should have played 2 and another seamer with Root as 3rd spinner.

Not picking Dawson is a pisstake. Key tried to cover it by saying Dawson would not have wanted to be 15th man and then we proceeded to pick three spinners.

It goes back to county pitches and results bases system set up for seamers, how else does dibbly dobbly Darren Stevens get so many wickets. Somerset have tried to set up some spinning pitches but on the whole it's a struggle for spinners to break through.

Could be getting Simon Kerrigan vibes here. Hopefully Hartley can come back into it.
The greatest compliment you can pay to him is that he didn't buckle (and he wasn't awfully mis-managed as Kerrigan was under Cook).

I actually thought he bowled nicely towards the end of the day, although he's still very much a work in progress.

Having watched him at Lancs, he'll end up a No.6-7 batsman which gives us a great option going forward.

I thought it was great captaincy. Taking him off would have ruined him. And as said in the previous post, he bowled better as the day wore on.

He'll be all the better for this experience. Not his fault that he's nowhere near ready.

Great captaincy to bowl him 9 overs? 4/5 fine, why nine? We'ved leaked 65 potentially crucial runs.

I back not hooking him after two overs after the initial what proved to be a mistake in opening with him.

1st tits match
@Samid v @TheGame
no one gives a toss

0.1 overs
@TheGame in to @Samid. spiteful delivery, right across @Samid’s bow. @Samid knows he’s in for a battle after that one. @TheGame grins gormlessly from his desk.
