It does actually make some sense. Him or Hartley with the way they dart the ball in.
That would have been a decent first over if it was to a right handed batsman.

My post was relevant to the thread. Tests are supposed to last 4-5 days. This trend of pitches that only allow for 2-3 day tests is not good for the game. Fans and broadcasters will eventually call the bluff and the revenue will drop significantly. Just because you decide to throw a hissy fit for no reason doesn’t mean my post wasn’t on topic.

Like I said you have history in the cricket threads and others have called you out as well. It's test cricket on a challenging pitch against 3 top quality spinners. India haven't lost a home series since 2012. India haven't batted yet and you are criticising the pitch?

Rough start for Hartley. Doesn't bode well.
I was slagging off this bowling attack pre series but seeing in action really does rub it in. Worst we have taken to India in decades and the last tour was shit.
Having picked him, and opened the bowling with him, Stokes needs to keep him on here.

No Stokes isn't fit to bowl with recent knee op. I think Wood can bowl more in a spell but Stokes switched to spin early and this is truly a baptism of fire for Hartley here. Definitly best to take him off here and try Root or Rehan but Jaiswal and Rohit look in the mood for serious damage.
Could be getting Simon Kerrigan vibes here. Hopefully Hartley can come back into it.

I think the commentary here is doing him a lot of disservice talking about him as a T20 player.
He had a reputation when he played u-19 and hadn't played T20 till then. Had a v good u-19 world cup. First class record is very good - averages 72 in 20 games, and that's why he's been fast tracked.
He got some coverage because of his backstory - sold pani poori on the streets, slept in a tent on the cricket ground as he couldn't afford rent. Looks a fantastic player.
And that's the problem in a nutshell, the odd ball is challenging but consistency is non-existent.
You will not get many easier Test Cricket 50s than that Jesus Christ. Buffet bowling.
It's a bit disgraceful that India haven't prepped a green-top and provided decent cloud cover here in all honesty. Don't they know England have no top class spinners!?
