England | right wing knuckle draggers on the streets

Nice to see the BBC challenging racists and clearly calling them out for what they are. They've taken alot of criticism over this so it should be pointed out when they get it absolutely right as well.
Absolutely and even though I’ve never liked him, no better man than Nolan to tackle them on it

And you would agree that these are incredibly stupid issues to get angry about?

EDIT: to be clear, being angry about reduced fuel allowances and homelessness is fine, linking either of these issues to asylum seekers is the incredibly dumb part....
Exactly. Other struggling people aren’t the problem.

I enjoy how they think they're being clever zooming in and reading out the number on his uniform. The exact same number they're all wearing, it appears!
That was great. Yelling out the letters and numbers not noticing the cop next to him had the exact same thing on his gear

most of the people that work with the homeless (many of whom are veterans) are also the same people who supported the asylum seekers in hotels. I should know i was a trustee of one said charity. the same people moaning about the asylum seekers were the same people we find moaning about the homeless (as being drug / drink addled nuisance) and getting in the way when executing support plans.

We have an Orange parade every year because I live in the town where William Prince of Orange first landed in Great Britain. There is a statue of him right outside my window that marks the point where he stepped foot off the boat.I wake up to.it every morning.

99% of those attending the parade are Scousers and every year they do their walk, bang their drums and then go to the pub and get smashed.and sing racist and offensive songs. They used to use my pub until I took it over and made it clear they weren't welcome. The second year I had the pub we had a large Irish family in for dinner who were absolutely disgusted and seriously outraged it was happening as the march came past the window.

The worst part for me is many locals don't understand why it's offensive and nobody seems to know who gives permission for it to happen each year.
I was down that way recently, if I knew a fellow Red had a pub I would have popped in for a pint....

Urgh, we have one that goes by our house every year. They pretend that it's just a community thing nowadays but to me they might as well be wearing Nazi uniforms.

Oh there's a lot of budget shuffling I'd rather be angry about than these. We should be able to support all but i do think we focus too much on just handing out money to paper over the underlying issues.

Most people aren't economists or treasury officials though so they just see money taken from one place they do like and given to another they don't. Since i returned to the UK all I see is that people on all sides are pissed off, bitter and looking for anybody to blame for their shit lives. Some of them are currently out on the streets.

I'm not racist... then continues to say blatantly racist things for the duration of a 12 minute video including 'this is a white community and always has been'.

Someone find that man a brain.
Why do they all look alike?

Of course he says he’s not racist, even though he doesn’t want non-white people to live in the same community as him. Why are they always in denial?

You'd think these feckwits would be happy considering they 'Got our country back' after Brexit. Or has it just dawned on them, After years of constant reports that it would do the UK far more harm than good, that it was a bad idea.

They know racism is bad but they see themselves as good people. Denial is all that's left.

Visiting London and Manchester this month with family. Not sure how safe would it be with these riots. Any advice?

Think you'll be fine in those places. Tbh I expect a lot of this to die down once a bulk of this loud minority of idiots end up being bars, which should spook some of their friends and family. In the major cities you should be fine, London so far has been pretty quiet.

Nothing so far has happened in London, which feels completely normal. When do you have to make a decision by?
Travelling mid August for a week. So not much time. Hopefully nothing escalates and things ease down by then.

Thanks. Hopefully you are right and sanity restores.

This is not a simple cause and effect. That's too reductive. It's about structural issues that are felt but sometimes not understood or articulated. It's about decreasing standards of living. It's about their children not being able to afford homes.

All the reasons I'm a Marxist are the same reasons these people are angry. That anger is legitimate and has been commandeered.

We as a society, do nothing to prevent this anger from being manipulated. The language from the Tories fuels this, on purpose.

There are so many factors at play. Why the feck do we even know who Farage is? Him and Tommy Robinson are given a platform by the media. It is not a coincidence they are not commies but are racist bigots.

The closest we have to a left wing ideologue was perhaps Corbyn and he was eviscerated by the same people who giggle at Farage's 'irreverence' while insulting foreigners.

What makes you a Marxist rather than just someone who advocates for more social policies like universal healthcare, strong safety nets for sick & unemployed, etc? What more would you like to see?

Wrong thread. But I'd settle for that list right now!

(As it stands I see all those things as tokens or concessions rather than actual social equality... they are socialism from above where Marxism could be described as socialism from below... Another thread maybe)

If you asked them to define what racism is, 99% of them couldn't do so with any degree of accuracy, the ignorance of these people is mindblowing

Did you not read my edit? I’m not denying the legitimacy of their anger. Just the target for it.

Suspects charged so far have faced allegations including violent disorder, which can lead to five years in jail.

Some other suspects who have been arrested are being assessed for the more serious charge of rioting, that can lead to ten years.

Those charging decisions will take a longer, the Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Parkinson tells me, because of the nature of the crime and the evidence needed.

"There are sentencing guidelines which indicate that many people who have been caught up in this disorder will face immediate imprisonment. There should be no doubt about that. They are going to prison.

"We are willing to look at terrorism offences. I'm aware of at least one instance where that is happening.

"Where you have organised groups planning activity for the purposes of advancing [an] ideology... planning really, really serious disruption then yes, we will consider terrorism offences."

I couldn't stomach more than a couple of minutes of that guys filth. Is he a fellow shop-owner on the street? if so can we please identify the particular shop. I'm not suggesting any aggressive action against him, it's just I'm going to Belfast next weekend and I want to make sure I don't spend a fecking penny in his shop!

EDIT - I've just checked on streetview and it looks like the guy was being interviewed from the doorway of the Rangers suporters club...so not really a surprise his views belong in the stone age!

"Its not racist to love your own people and want your kids protected" is the usual defensive drivel you get. They see the mere presence of a coloured person in their community as somehow antithetical to that. Its the same nonsense about them seemingly not being able to claim their pride in being English or waving St George's flags, literally no one has told them that's the case yet its another perpetuated myth they use to channel their anger.

And yes, think the poster above was spot on in that they refuse to acknowledge the racist label because its become a dirty word. Hence why they use it in a derogatory 'no u!' sense back at their accusers. Its also used frivolously as a deflection when describing other perpetuated myths like the "white displacement theory" or how Asian men are supposedly all out to groom their young girls.

If there has been any progress since say the 1940s, its that no one wants to be associated as a racist, whereas for many at the time it was considered a badge of honour.

Did you not read my edit? I’m not denying the legitimacy of their anger. Just the target for it.
Aye, but like the poverty the fact their target is misdirected is again a construct. It's not just accidentally misplaced ire. It's always been the way. Black workers were bussed from the south to break strikes in the early days of unions in the US. That worked a treat! That's why I mentioned the always available platform for rabble rousing scum like Farage and Robinson with Corbyn vilified Chomsky only ever appearing in Unis and bookstores.

Edit - sorry, my point was they are not stupid things to get angry about and it's no surprise where they direct their anger, all things considered.

I'm still kinda in disbelief of where we are

Also, see why I was banging on about Elon in this thread? Billionaire owner of one of the most popular social platforms is agitating British domestic affairs, and fanning the xenophobia and racism flames.

What a piece of shit.

I've said it before, but I can't believe that he has the time to tweet so much nonsense, and that he obvious fascist rhetoric isn't leading to mass turnover for his companies. I wouldn't want to work for a company associated with him in any way.
