Also when looking at that squad, its important to remember that the two key players in the spine of any team made from it, Henderson in midfield and Maguire in defence, may not actually be fit enough to play in the tournament.

I think Chilwell still slightly edges Shaw for final delivery.
 
The football ramble lions watch podcast made a good point about Lingard on Saturday: they said that in a tournament squad there are often a few players who know they aren’t really going to play, and that is even more so the case with the bigger squad for this tournament. That can be tough for the manager to manage those players so they don’t bring down the squad, as well as for the players themselves of course. They said that lingard could be a great player to have in that regard. As such an upbeat personality, he would be unlikely to sulk if in that spot but rather be a positive character, and would also be likely to understand his role in a team setup like that.

Gareth was already picking Chilwell he ain't gonna drop him after his performance in the final.

Probably what I'd expect the go to lineup to be if all fit anyway and actually really strong. The rest will rotate in as subs or if they perform better than one of these or are more fit, but this is the main 11 IMO and it's up to them if they keep their spot more than if somebody else can take it for this tournament.

5 defenders and 2 holding mids is Southgate all over. He'll ruin the attacking talent by leaving most of them out.

Having done my research on previous games as to when we (England) have played a 343, this is what I feel Southgate will play.

We can all post our fantasy England teams but we have to be realistic here.

Shirt number says a lot at LB. Chilwell can’t lay a glove on Shaw this season.

Does it matter? England are not winning the Euros anyway with a manager like Southgate. Happy to bet any amount on that.

It doesn’t map to two teams with this change but I think our first team will be James RWB, Walker RCB.

Yes, but if you look at it, it's not too dissimilar to the way Tuchel's Chelsea set up and no one criticized him.

His team in the CL Final was:

Mendy
Azpi T Silva Rudiger
James Kante Jorgiho Chilwell
Havertz Werner Mount​

Not really a big difference in terms of attacking output. Actually, I'd say our front three is a lot better with Kane and Grealish instead of Havertz and Werner.
 
I have no issue with Lingard not being in the squad, but it is a shame that his omission was leaked early.

I think the England squad looks good. There are many good quality players there. Hopefully they can go deep into the competition.

I'm not a massive fan of Southgate but that's not fair given he got us into the semi-final of a World Cup, which was a game we really should have won, too.

Do we really need 2 DMs in front of 3 CBs?
 
I would pack my bags and go home now if i found out I wasn’t in the Euros squad. Might as well go for my holidays and put my legs up now
 
I find it bonkers that people think the omission of JWP, Lingard and Watkins is tournament ending for England. Arguably Gareth has picked the best 26 available to him given the circumstances.

Hopefully he'll wise up with his tactics. If he plays 3 at the back with 2 DMs then we'll be in trouble. I hope he goes with two box-to-box midfielders in front of 3 CBs.

I think he’ll play 5 at the back at least in some games and definitely if Maguire is injured. Walker and James as RCBs in the 3 with James as an emergency midfielder.
 
Media outrage at Trent being dropped has led to this. Imagine not picking a RB who's team has just put together one of their worst home runs in history.

Tripper and Walker won the league. James won the CL. Trent can pass the ball well sometimes.

Picking four right backs isn't picking your best 26. You need to pick a squad with balance. Southgate has done the opposite.
