England Cricket 2016/17 - Bangladesh, India & West Indies (ODI's only)

Well done Bangladesh, England's top order have let themselves and there country down

Bangladesh getting into a position from where they can completely bottle it.

Tbh given how much the balls spun in at the start of our two innings its hardly surprising they got out cheaply.

The biggest problem is/was the failure of our spinners to get anywhere near as much out of a helpful pitch.

Suspect England will win.

Either way, Bangladesh have made a really good match of it, despite losing the toss.

They are not easy opposition, at home, these days.

Well done England, despite Bangladesh's record of only 7 wins (5 vs ZIM), this was never going to be a walk in the park. It's good to see us grind out a result but none of the spinners convince me - personally I wouldn't have Rashid near the squad - and I think we will get absolutely destroyed in India.

The spinners can bowl some really good deliveries but just aren't consistant enough.

I'd never drop Broad. Sure he's inconsistent but has the ability to turn into a monster mid innings. Really don't get the thinking.

Tamim is playing superbly.

He is rested because England are playing 7 tests in two months in testing conditions. They aren't dropping him based on performances.

Bangladesh gonna bangladesh. It's going to be so weird if they do eventually ever get it right, and become decent.

The energy behind cricket in the country is nuts: existing international players are treated like rock stars, the national team attracts huge sponsorship funds from Telecoms companies which enables them to employ top international coaches, 1000s of young players under aged 18 who dream of making it, there is no other sport to compete for the attention of affection.

Its taken abit longer than anticipated but they have already made the mental and technical shift in ODI cricket: on their day, they can beat any team in the world, especially in home conditions. Test cricket is the last frontier, and it seems they have discovered a system that works for them: specifically a dependence on spin.

They are touring England next summer - lets see how they fare.

No doubt about any of that, and add in the insane population size (thus the pool of talent) it's inevitable they will be eventually good.

But it will just be strange for someone like me, who's grown up watching them be shit and essentially a laughing stock good for the occasional giant killing.
