Gaming Elden Ring - Fromsoftware

Nothing to do this weekend thanks to covid positive so thought I'd give it ago and yeah....not for me. Didn't think it would be as it's not my type of game but thought I'd give it a try since the reviews are so good but I didn't enjoy a single minute of it.

I found the camera to do my absolute head in while trying to dodge stuff. I'll add it to the long list of great games that I should just leave alone (God of War, Last of us, etc).

Edit I think I've cracked the genre I dislike, anything third person! This may save me a fortune in the future.

What an amazing game.

However I'm nearly 24 hours in (playing as a Samurai) and I haven't been able to beat the Fell Omen yet to progress the main story. I've pretty much been able to explore the majority of the map too (bar the North/East portion of the red land).

Sounds to me like you don't enjoy god tier games.

What level where you all when you defeated Margitt, and why am I so sh*t?

Use the rotten stray summon. Worked for me as it caused bleed or something similar and made Margit’s health go down whilst I avoided him. I think I found it after I got transported by that chest in the dragon ruins. I went out and left following the mountains and it was in a ruined castle.

Level 30. Honestly, so many players beat their head against the wall with this boss because it is really difficult but you probably just need to explore the area and level up a bit more. I'd say it took me about 50 attempts before I got higher stats.

I'm level 30 now, maybe it's time I try him again.

I feel like my character is a glass hammer currently, I can do some damage and am able to take down stronger opponents whilst I'm on my horse thanks to the maneuverability. But I'm cactus when I have to fight on foot.

Cheers. I'll go and try to find it. I haven't used any magic/summons etc as yet, which is probably my problem. I've poured all of my upgrading into Dexterity, Endurance, Vigor and Strength (in that order or priority).

I am just 4 hours in and really enjoying the FromSoft take on open world so far. Really positively surprised, despite all the raves from fellow fans of the Soulsborne genre.

That elevator ride down to Siofra blew my mind a bit

The summons are vital imo as it helps to have something aggro the enemy so you can get hits in.

I beat Melania today and she can solely go feck herself in the depths of hell, good luck to you all.

I think I need to upgrade my armour. I’m still rocking cloth trousers, gauntlets and the exile armour. I’m sure there’s some much better lightweight stuff.

Somehow I'm at level 47 and beat him on my 2nd try last night. I'm not good either, I just used all the farming methods (killing the big dying dragon, the little ninjas, etc) to level up the things I need to keep my build competitive (vigor, endurance, strength, vitality). Now I can dial weild decent enough. Oh and having the jellyfish ghost thing helps, it takes the focus say from you for periods

Same problem, Samurai and its difficult to stay clear of his attacks especially during second phase....imma try that Stray Ash and see if that helps. I was using the three dogs...got him down to a quarter of his health then fell.

Armour isn’t that big of a deal tbh. It’s not going to stop you from being 1-2 shot. As long as you’re levelling your vigor you can pretty much wear what you want. Just go for the best drip.

Look out for helmets that increase some of your base stats though.

Just be careful you don't use that method too much, or you will find yourself not enjoying the challenge at all.

The whole point of difficulty early on in Souls games is to teach people how to play and how rewarding it is to finally get good enough at the mechanics. If you over level the whole game, you miss the experience of that big win.

What does meta mean?

Think of it as the best weapons/armour/perks in a game to be most competitive. In a single player game like this, it doesn't really matter as you can and should experiment, but in online games sweaty kids always find the very tiptop equipment to use and then everybody does the same.

In souls games, aside from easy mode (magic user), the best attack enhancer always ends up bleed. Poison, fire, magic, quality, etc...all mean very little. The balancing has never been right nor effective. However, that being said, it doesn't necessarily mean that it makes the game trivial. If you go bleed fast sword/dagger and maybe even dual them, you can still be crushed easily but you can have a lot of fun moving in and out and fast hitting.

Most effective tactic available. In the case of ER its spam status effects and bloodloss is the easiest one aside from as Redlambs said spamming magic from miles away especially now it got a buff on the new patch.

Magic is ridiculous, I helped someone do Mohg and another guy just basically Azur spammed him to death before he hit any of us.

For someone that has no desire to grind or “git gud” I’m having a great time with the magic build.

I can't get into magic in any Soulsborne game other than putting fire or blood on my weapon.

I'll run out of spell casts or FP. I'll never run out of sword swings.

Having loads of flasks and a hefty FP bar will take care of that.

So Volcano Manor is it worth waiting to do the third contract before fighting the boss or should I just beat him? I think I’ve progressed the quests of the characters there as far as I can but I don’t know if killing the last boss without the contract fecks everything up

Without spoiling much if possible, is there a point of no return i should be looking out for? I'm at the big castle/tree but there looks to be another area further north on the map. Would like to complete the castle and not complete the game if possible as I still want to do some trophy hunting before whatever the last boss is.

Keep going, there’s more after.
