Wait a second, wasn't fellaini's release clause 23.5 million??

Why did we get it expire? Did we suddenly decide we want him last minute as an after thought??

Because he probably thought he could get other higher priority players first which was why they had let his release clause expire a month ago. He read the lay of the land badly, very badly. Naive or financially strapped, United's reputation for buying players will have taken a massive hit.
When Ed woodward calls the next time... agents may not answer now after he let potential players out to dry with low bids.

So what he did all summer was taking early trip back during pre season and made the Fellaini deal happen by paying extra 4m despite the buy out clause.

Please guys... I know he's not the most favored personel at the moment

But he is still the CEO of Manchester United, can we refrain from calling one of us a cnut please.

I think he "ruined" a "bit" the reputation of the club.

Alright let's just calm down, he's still the CEO of Manchester United, have some respect, it's his first transfer window and it's a whole new environment for him, give him time.

Umm, Kenyon was called it, Gill was called it so it's not a surprise that Woodward gets called it too ;)

As soon as he arrives this morning he should be sacked

= headless chicken.. can we now change the name tag please?

The worst thing he doesnt look like someone who would hold himself high enough to resign.

Isn't he an executive vice chairman of United? I think the Glazers knew something we didn't.

I suspect there will be an in-coming executive chairman of United in the next few months.

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

He is a cnut.

I hope so but I'm doubting it,

I don't know why people are making excuses for him like , give him a break it was his first transfer window. Our club is not a training ground for CEO's/vice chairman - whatever the hell his title is. Doesn't know what he is doing, we are not his learning exercise. Get rid and get someone in who can actually do the job because I'm sure Herrera is thinking, oh it's okay, it's his first transfer window - no biggie.

Exactly, if I made a loss of £4m at work id be sacked

Would you get sacked if you bought a copy machine at 15% higher price ?

It's not the 4M , it's the relative value of the deal.

By your rationale Dalglish should get banned from managing football.

It's not the 4M loss that I'm bothered about, but us going around insulting other teams with petty and ridiculously insulting offer, not to mention what he did with Herera

Exactly. He's not a bloody intern who can take his time learning on the job. Just get someone with experience and credentials at this stuff.

The most embarassing thing about this summer has been the United fans in general. Some already want Ed Wood fired because we didn't make any 'marquee signings', how much time are they realistically going to give Moyes?

People are calling for his head not because he failed to make a marquee signing but the way he conducted business in the whole window, just look at the disaster that unfolded yesterday.

Errr... have you not been reading the various threads? Its not about the lack of marquee signing but the way the management team behaved throughout the summer both towards the fans and the clubs we are trying to buy their players from.

Between the Herrera "imposter" claims and signing Fellaini for £4m more than his buyout clause, Woodward's first transfer window was touched with slapstick genius. Staggering, given the quiet professionalism we've grown accustomed to. I'm sure he'll learn from this but this summer will go down as a very public humiliation for him - and for us. At least we did actually get Fellaini. Even if we need a new commercial Pretzel Partnership out the bag to make up for the fact we got shafted on the price.

Not a single person on this forum knows how he conducted business. They're using the results of that business to come to their own conclusions.

It doesn't matter. When you're the CEO you take full and final responsibility for the outcome, the details of how you got there make no difference, tho in this case they make be a source of some mirth if and when the come out. What is clear is we overpaid for a midfielder we could've signed cheaper months ago. That's verifiable, and embarrassing.

How else are you supposed to judge a man's work? By how important he looks while working? Of course, they're unhappy about the results and they have every right to question his performance.

What? Failing to make a marquee signing isn't why people want him fired.

This is Manchester United ffs, a multi billion pound company and we should be appointing someone who knows exactly how transfers work.

I ought to use your line of reasoning for work. I am sure my bosses will understand too.

Don't get all fecking sanctimonious , it's different. Moyes will be given time.On the other hand we were obviously in for players and made a pigs arse of it by all accounts. My nan could have signed Hererra. He wanted to join us, they wanted to sell and he was even chipping in out of his own pocket.

Woodward is out of depth, before i condemn completely i would really like to know the full story.

Was it poor planning/strategy, was Moyes a bit naive when he indicated we were going for the "very best" or is it possible we didn't have the money to spend big.

Or as mentioned by many simply that Woodward struggled with negotiating and closing deals?

We failed to land Coentrau because the paperwork wasn't done in time. Fact.
We paid nearly 4 million more than we had to for our one signing. Fact.
We failed to land Herrera apparently due to running out of time because we firstly tried to scrimp on price and then didn't understand the Spanish market we were playing in. Having paid more than we had to for one decent midfielder, we were not willing to do it for a quality one.

Incompetence of the highest order. And it's Woodwards area, so wether he was doing it personally or
not, he is responsible.

christ, we paid more for Fellaini than we first bid for Fabregas.
