Edward Woodward

Unless we've been completely blindsided by a potential major deal that's been under wraps (highly unlikely going by things so far), I can't see Woodward's return being about anything other than selling Rooney.

Unless the club reckons Baines or Garay are major signings I suppose, don't think a Fabregas deal would've materialised so quickly.

Would he fly back so urgently to deal with Rooney when we point blank rejected their initial bid? Our stance on that seems pretty firm currently. I'm putting on my muppet hat and hoping it's a player coming in, we've waited long enough!

Who am I kidding? As if I ever take my muppet hat off!

In my opinion we want to sell, and it's obvious to me Rooney wants out. In my honest opinion... *dons tinfoil hat* ...United and Chelsea already have some level of an argreement for the sale of Rooney, and what we're witnessing is fans appeasement.

We're in our healthiest financial position under Glazers, and as evident by the transfers made by mid-table and bottom half clumps; the transfer muscle Spurs are showing; and the ambition Arsenal are showing is we should have a really big war chest. Expect big, muppets.

I'm hoping it is a case of buying a player, but then could just as easily be to sell Rooney (most likely at this point). Muppet in me wants it to be Bale as he is our only really major target that is based in the UK.

Expect big!?

This is either the signing of Garay or Baines, or the selling of Rooney. :(

If we're willing to pay for Garay, we'd definitely have thought about midfield.

1) The Eternal Optimist
Don’t worry about a thing, ‘cos every seemingly ridiculous signing will be alright. Sold your best striker and replaced him with a dud from the second tier of French football? Eh, it can be hard to score goals in that division, English football will suit him. The Eternal Optimist will spin everything so that it makes perfect sense.

Most likely to say: “The manager knows what he’s doing.”
Least likely to say: “We’ve signed WHO?”

Rooney's gone, I would think. I figure there are some legs to the Chelsea player exchange story despite Chelsea denying it.

I imagine that negotiations pertaining to a player's transfer usually involve: (a) the buying club's player investment specialist and lawyer, (b) the selling club's player investment specialist and lawyer, and (c) the player's agent and lawyer. Presumably, the player investment specialist would be reporting to a higher-up (possibly the CEO, but not necessarily) with decision-making power. The higher-up would be controlling the "big-picture" portion of the transfer, leaving the player investment specialist to sort out the details.

IMO, this means that the higher-up's (let's say, the CEO's) direct involvement in transfer negotiations would usually not be necessary - unless he needs to be able to approve any new developments extremely quickly. That sounds like either extremely heated negotiations or negotiations with a rapidly approaching deadline. Could very well be Rooney.

The numbers of leaked stories is disgusting. The media have linked us with at least 5 high profile players.

Are we sure he's rushed home for a transfer? Maybe he just had an epic shit and they didn't have double quilted loo roll in his hotel room and he wasn't standing for that, so he hopped on a Jumbo home to get a proper, luxury wiping.

On the off chance it is transfer shenanigans I'd have to hope the urgent part rules out the mop from Everton or Garay since no one else wants them so it would hardly require the urgency.

Won't be surprised if he s 'seen' in 3 or 4 airports simultaneously : London,Madrid,Barcelona, Liverpool ......

It's because they know shit... They don't even know who Woodward really is, where he crawl from and what the feck is he doing, flying around the world like a mad man.

It's a mad, mad woodworld.

Has he landed yet?

Where is Woodward now ?

telling you, I've never ever known a transfer season like this one. It's huge entertainment, it's got highs and lows, rage and calmness, viciousness and gentleness. It's just like a soap opera...

You are easily entertained, or strangely... It is completely uneventful, nothing has actually happened, at all.

Let's hope he goes to the future and takes note of who the next Messis and Xavis are. He probably got caught by the black smokey thing though

He's only gonna find out that United will sign a player with original haircut.

Well they reckon that United's travelling tour party have approximately 170 peolple on it. That party consists of players, coaching staff, medical staff, admin staff, chefs, execs, ambassadors (Robbo, Coley etc), MUTV staff, interpreters - basically every man & his dog thats on the payroll at United.

The remaining party consists of journo's & there's supposed to be a shitload of them. Pretty much every major British newspaper has a United correspondent on the tour, then you have other elements of media there aswell, like Sky, BBC, ESPN & various websites too. So if United wanted to leak a story then they wouldnt have far to go & also, if a journo wanted a scoop then i'm sure they'd be using all the tricks of the trade tryin to find out whats goin on behind closed doors. Like payin hotel staff for the contents of bins from conference meetings, hotel rooms & then root through bins contents for scrapped notes chucked from meetings etc..

The Bale £60m bid story in todays Daily Mirror, is written by well respected journo Ollie Holt. I'm not sure if Holt's out with the touring party, but The Mirrors chief football writer Martin Lipton (very well respected also) is. So if Ollie Holt isnt in Oz, then he's stickin his neck out with the Bale story most likey sourced on info he received from Lipton, but it could just be a shot in the dark too!

I'll be happy if this is Garay's signing, even if it's going to be our only signing of the Summer.

There are a number of possibilities: Barca may have indicated their willingness to talk about a Fabregas transfer (plausible since they haven't publicly rejected our bid), and Woodward may want to conduct the negotiation himself, or at least be present at the death to sign the deal. A bid, or inquiry, for Bale, Ronaldo or Modric may have met with a quicker and more favourable response than expected, and once again Woodward may want his fingerprints on the final document. It's less likely that he'd rush back to put his personal stamp on the signing of smaller fry.

And why would he want to personally sell Rooney? No glory there. That's what delegation is for. Besides, why would United say his return has nothing to do with Rooney, only for that to be revealed as a lie within a couple of days? Ridiculous.

True that. Let's face it, whatever it was, he now HAS to come up with good news. That can only be a good thing.

looking forward to another day of 1st class transfer muppetry

Muppets ready & raring to go...

God bless the internet - its saved me a feckin fortune on newspapers thats for sure. To get my footie fix of transfer gossip first thing in the morning, i used to jump on Ceefax (page 338 i think) & Teletext (where you had to ring a feckin number to get the story related to United - i did it once & it cost a tenner ffs:wenger:) & then determine what papers i'd buy to read up on who United were after or at what stage we were at.. feckin bastard journo's printin shite & makin a mint off my inner-summer muppet

The only way I can see this having anything to do with Rooney is if a cash + player deal did eventually materialise.

I'll be happy if this is Garay's signing, even if it's going to be our only signing of the Summer.
Yup, but I want either Fellaini or Barry to go with this.

Won't be Rooney. Why rush to sell to a rival. If we sell Rooney it will be nearer the end of the window. Of course it could be a bad move and affect our season but to get the best price and make Chelsea have less time to get him fit for the start of the new season. Really we should give Chelsea hope till the end of the window and sell last minute to arsenal.
