Edinson Cavani

Erm, somehow I don't think so
You probably need to watch more Serie A though. Bottom half of Serie A is as good as bottom half of EPL. The main difference is that EPL has usually 6 very good teams while Serie A has Juventus and an another team (which usually changes every year) as top teams.

I've never seen him play well once. I don't see a lot of PSG but whenever I've seen him, I've never felt like, wow! He just looks so ordinary.

Can you not read, I said Cavani is class, did you decide to ignore that bit, he hasn't got a £50m price tag because he's shit you know, or have you based your opinion on a couple of games in the world cup?
So we're going to sign a 'class' striker to play out wide because he is also a work horse? I care not for his statistics in a diluted league. Or even so, what did he do when Zlatan was out injured and he was the main striker? Not much.

Italian football is on the downgrade and has been for a few years, that's why they lost the 4th CL place, Juventus by far the outstanding team of that league but different when they meet higher class opposition from other top European leagues, and I have watched fair amount of Serie A matches and although better than the French league is not on a par with PL

16 league goals - against which opposition, read previous post

25 goals in 44 games, not too shabby in his first season whilst mainly playing out of position, add the 70 odd goals scored in just over a 100 games for Napoli. Cavani is a prolific goal scorer and a proper team player that also puts a real shift in for the team,

sorry I'm wrong, he's clearly shit, lets sign Memphis Depay instead.

Does that mean you think Thiago Silva is a shit defender as well

But a striker is in no way a priority. I'd rather see Rooney on the bench and a quality winger brought into the first 11.

Not at all, lad. Are you going to purposely nitpick and pick up on semantics or speak of Cavani?

He's not worth the money being quoted just to sit on the bench. Unless we selling Rooney.

He was excellent for Napoli hence the talk of big money, at PSG he's had a different role having to play around Ibrahimovic and when he's played up front himself he hasn't found the fluency he had at Napoli. He was bought for more money than he's worth thats true, and played in a position where you just aren't going to get more than about £25 millions worth from him.

I thought he was okay last night, yes a little quiet like a lot of strikers of his type and a lovely cross for Suarez' goal

I Agree, it's not a priority, we have other position's that need sorting first, but if a player of Cavani's calibre is available we should be interested, reading some of the posts on here, it sounds like we are debating Emile Heskey.

But then where do you put him? You can't put him in the #10, we most definitely will not play a 442, and for that price you're far better off getting an actual winger if you're just going to shove him out wide.

I didn't say he was rubbish but he is not a priority and is not worth whatever price he will be quoted at and would not add to the team what we need

Maybe Van Gaal has plans to convert him into a beast of a defensive midfielder.

I agree with this. I don't think he's wroth the money. He's still a very good player and would welcome him at United, but you have to question why we'd be willing to pay that amount of money. So for that reason alone, I really don't see this story being true. I just can't see the club willing to pay that much money for a player who simply isn't worth it.

He's a better player than Rooney. Shouldn't be, but he is.

Also, Welbeck would benefit from learning how to use physical attributes, strong mentality and some guile to become a top player whilst being a bit of a donkey.

1st leg, Napoli vs Chelsea, he was very good I thought. Apart from that, as I never watch him in the league, I'm struggling to point out good performances.

Yep, same here. Falcao is the guy I watched and thought yes, If Chelsea get him we are in trouble. Thank god they didnt get him in the end.

People love to hate great modern forwards like Cavani and Rooney. Versatile, hard-workers and ruthless goalscorers, yet if they don't have an immaculate first touch people will bemoan them as overrated.

Sumptuous ball for Suárez's first goal yesterday. A great player. I remember praising both Cavani and Suárez here at the last World Cup, despite much criticism for both players. Even four years on, somehow the criticism remains.

psg overpays for almost everyone. no other club would have paid so much money for him. That doesnt mean he is bad
Agree - he's not bad but he's not worth that either, point is we don't need him and if PSG were going to sell they'd want a return on their investment made only a year ago

Absolute world class ball to Suarez and he showed why he's a top striker even when you disregard his goals. Match him up with quality and he will deliver.

If we sign him, Rooney would be sitting on the bench cause Cavani is better than him. However, I agree that he isn't worth 60-70m and we have other positions to fix before we look to upgrade strikers.

We're going to sign this guy. I can see it!! Makes no flipping sense either. I suppose that small population in Uruguay is all we need to top Real Madrid again as the biggest club in football.

I like him. he's nothing like Gomez, actually, I'd say he's more similar to our Welbeck. he's strong and reasonably fast, works hard and he's everywhere on the pitch but doesn't lose his composure in front of goal because of that. for me, he's everything we hoped Welbeck would become.

He has some similarities to Diego Costa for me, but is much better than him. Costa will never convince me he is a top player no matter how many goals he scores.

So if Costa goes and scores 40 goals next season for Chelsea, you won't be convinced he's a top player?

I see where he is coming from. The guy screams out one season wonder. Really looks nothing special at all.
Cavani on the other hand does look a proper striker but we really don't need him. If we want a "big" signing as reported then we should look for the CM spot.
