Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

Well if they believed that then why wasnt he signed July 1st when he was available on a free

He wasn't even in the plan then. This is last minute panic stations clear as day.

Has Cavani even been training with a former club to keep fit too? Been a free agent all summer so I assume he's not been doing anything with PSG.

So it could be 3 to 4 weeks before he's match fit. Another sure sign this wasn't planned. He could have been signed 4 weeks ago and been ready to go now if this was the plan.

Tragic what this club is becoming.

Probably the most popular name in ‘players you’ve never seen play well’ threads. In fairness a class act but finished at the top level.

If we finish anywhere near the top two you can fek me with a broom handle. As long as I can do the same to you if we don't. We'll be lucky to make top 4 with this squad and manager.
Cavani won’t make or break our season though so I don’t put finishing a certain position on him in the league like you. I think if he gets around 10 goals as a bench player he’ll have done well.

Has anyone mentioned Greenwood will learn a lot from him on the training ground :wenger:

100% agree with you. That package he has been offered, whether wages or agent fees should have all been put towards the Sancho deal.

So we're going to be paying £330k a week to back up strikers until Jan. All on questionable signings, signed at the end of the transfer windows... doesn't exactly scream "effective transfer strategy" does it?

As for Cavani, not gonna moan, I hope it works out and he tears it up.

His signing is a joke, anyone happy with signing a free agent available for weeks 2 days before deadline day are the reason our club is in so much trouble , the Glazers love you.

Had we signed him weeks ago as a backup and 3 or 4 other signings to improve the squad then we would all be happy.

Panic buying a 33 year old has been that nobody wants, reeks of desperation and failure. I weep for the clubs future.

Where have you seen that?

Not trying to defend this signing but it could be far worse. We could have signed Joshua King for 15 or 20m
Either signing is a total failure. Pathetic from the higher ups. They should all be sacked for this window. I've been fairly chill and hopeful but Christ this is a ridiculously poor signing. We need a right winger but instead we sign a striker in the final days of his career. I'm raging.

Finished at the top level. Our regular PSG watchers I’m sure.
I'm a degenerate gambler so find myself watching PSG most weeks and to be fair I watched a lot of Napoli when he was there too. I'm very excited by this deal not only for the on the pitch stuff but the things he can teach Mason, Rashford or Martial. His movement as a striker in the box is among the best in the world still.

No, but I think it's unrelated. We have always been after another striker.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do just say feck it and pay the money to Dortmund though.
Don't think so. I think we just wanted one attacker to have a group of 4 we rotate with, and then James and Ighalo as deeper depth but never really needed. Next summer we'll go back in for Sancho, and possibly extend Cavani a year if he does well, but in general I definitely think it's related. Cavani free agent all summer. Dying days of the window we sign him because we gave up on Sancho. All there is to it imo.

We'd better fecking had. Just Cavani would be an utter disgreace.

I guess in fairness by leaving this deal as late as we have at least he wouldn't have been sat collecting his 200k a week during the close season and not having Cavani is hardly the reason we lost to Palace so I guess there's a crumb of comfort there, right?

Don't disagree with any of your sentiment. I have given up on the board.

The talk was that we were wanting a striker this summer, but ended up de-priorising that for other positions. We missed out on prime targets in other positions so that frees up the budget for a striker.

The club aren't dumb enough to think that this is an 'appeasing' signing. The money guys may not know football, but they know marketing and signing a 33 year old free agent isn't a good look when its been such a grim summer and naturally toys are now out of the pram...

Yeah God forbid somebody has a different opinion to you. Get a fecking grip.

We need both. Let’s see what happens regarding RW.

I'm not sure I would say disgrace.

If the plan is Sancho then I guess I'd be okay with us not going out and spunking 50 million on someone like Sarr as a panic buy on Monday and waiting until we can actually get him.

People will call me a Woodward/Glazer apologist I'm sure but I don't really care about either of them.

I don't get all the outrage over Cavani. I'm quite happy with him as a signing on a free (so long as it's not crazy wages). He'd basically upgrade Ighalo at the minimum so that's a plus for me.

My only worry is it being so late, it does seem like we've failed with other targets maybe.

If the window is:
DVB
Cavani
Telles
Sancho

It’s a good window. But I don’t see us ending that way which is why it seems so underwhelming and undermining of the supposed changed United and better direction we had from our transfers with Ole.

So apparently if you're okay with this signing you're pro Glazer/Woodward and the reason why the club hasn't been successful. This forum is going downhill unfortunately. It's becoming more and more like twitter.

On a positive note. Maybe Ole will decide to interchange Mason and Elanga on the right wing. This way Cavani can deputise for Rashford an Martial. I think Elanga and Laird will have a break through season

It's Brexit all over again. The Caf is divided.
