Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

And even if it’s a disaster, 200k for a free agents is absolutely peanuts these days, look at what Ramsey gets
Let’s see what happens.
Juventus don't give a feck, they've won the Seria A how many years in a row now?

Whereas we have wasted hundreds of millions of pounds in wages, fees and agent payments on fairly useless signings. Ighalo would be yet another one, who we would be wasting wages on without playing until January and we also had to pay money to his club to stay with us more than the initial deal was for.

Criminal wastage of resources and money yet again, but people keep lapping it up season after season.

Won't Greenwood lose game time as striker with Cavani signing though? Greenwood in reality should be our second choice striker behind Martial and second choice RW behind whoever we sign as right winger this summer.

Higuain went to the MLS because no one wanted him. Benfica, Atletico and now us were after Cavani.
Atletico link was never serious. See how swiftly they moved for Luis Suarez?! Cavani has been available since June 30th. PSG didn't bother to ask him for few more months and use him in CL.

Absolute state of some fans on here trying to convince themselves this is a poisitve move for us. Embarrassing. You genuinely deserve Woodward and the Glazers.
I always say glazer and Woodward apologists are the worst set of fans. And sad part is they won't think twice to bash the manager and the players.

Only if negativity = being capable of independent thought

Calling that club is finished, we deserve Glazers if we are okay with this is independent thought then I guess we have different meaning for independent thought

He's been available to sign all summer. Been available to speak to since January.

This deal wasn't planned. It's a last minute panic mate on a player who used to be top drawer and now is way past his best.
Exactly. Panic buy to appease fans which is not going well. Fan base is probably split in half on this. Could do with a poll seeing if Utd fans are happy with this

L’Équipe report that representatives of La Liga side Atletico Madrid met with Uruguayan international striker Edinson Cavani’s representatives in a luxury hotel in Paris on Monday.

The 33-year-old remains without a club after leaving PSG when his original contract expired in June. The nature of the meeting was for the Spanish representatives to understand what demands the Uruguayan would make around a two year contract.

Suarez is the better player but that's not really a slight on Cavani.

Antonio Valencia is also on a free. Why not make it two out of two

Come on, top red, insult me directly. Or are you afraid your precious posting privileges will be taken away?

What the feck is so good about this signing? The fact we're paying stupid agent fees and wages when we've been banging about changing our policy for the past few months? The fact it flies in the face of all the 'corona has hurt us' logic and agenda from Deadwoodward?

If you cannot make a valid point don't try to insult people.

 feck me. Where to start.

Top red? Posting privileges? I’ll skip over those comments as they’re ridiculous.

I’ll list the good things about the deal:

Free transfer
Only committed to 1 year
Wages of 200k a week aren’t ridiculous for a player of his quality
He’s better than Ighalo. And will challenge martial
It’s fecking Edinson Cavani. Not some chump from the lower leagues that has never played at this level.

Agent fees are high, but that’s normal with free transfers.

I think you should heed your own advice on your last point.

If he scores 10-12 goals a season, probably a decent outcome.
For a player on that kind of wage? Rooney was hounded out for that kind of return.

If he's on 200k a week, thats about 20m over the 2 year contract. Not cheap by any means but also not the end of the world like some on here are describing it.
What? Cavani is going to be earning more than Harry Kane during his sting here if he's on £200k p/w (reckon it'll be more) plus the signing on fee. More than Vardy outright; one of the top earning strikers in the entire league. Do you think that's right or normal given the state of the guy coming here?

Signings like this are a fundamental problem with how we are being run and why we are the laughing stock we've become.

We shouldn't even have to look in his direction, and yet here we are.

What if they knew it wasn't going to appease the fans because of optics and general toddleristic behaviour caused by the Sancho deal, but did it anyway because he's a good player in a position we need reinforcements and experience in?

Quite excited to see him in a United shirt though surely to get the best out of him we need a top quality winger

You need the fekking fountain of youth

It screams we aren't getting our main target so quick buy a big named player to appease the fans.

If this deal was planned months ago they'd have never extended Igahlo's deal till January. Its a panic move and it will be a disaster. He scored 4 goals last season in the farmers league and couldn't stay fit. He was borderline world class. He's not anymore.

One thing is for sure. Sancho is not happening after this.

Hope he does well though. Always liked him

I have systematically ignored any with even a whiff of that stink from them. Makes for a far more pleasant Caf experience

I hate this signing. I have no doubt he'll be decent for us but it's the least enthused I've been about a signing in at least 5 years. From Sancho to Dembele to Cavani. Yuck.

This has Woodward's bullshit smeered all over it. No way Ole wants this.

I think the Cavani and Sancho deals are completely unrelated to be fair.

Well if they believed that then why wasnt he signed July 1st when he was available on a free

A signing that immediately improves us if he can stay fit. One of my all time favorite strikers just in time to settle in for PSG. He has a lot of unsettled business with Paris primadonas so I think it'll be a fun watch.

Yes he is past his prime, but he's not done.
Sensible one year deal.
Unacceptable agent fees.
But hey it's Woodfart so it couldn't be different.

Now get Sancho and Telles (or anyone who can cross a ball) and "send some shivers down the spine"

For a club thats had Larsson and Zlatan, I find it odd people don't like this signing.

He literally gives us the aerial threat/goal poacher/finisher we desperately need against teams that sit back.

He is on a 1 year deal. He is free. He is decorated and proven at the highest levels of football. Then there is his goal scoring record:

Some pretty impressive names on that list.

I'd wager Cavani is going to score goals for us.

Greenwood is our only RW. He’s needed elsewhere.
Yes but there's no way we can go into a new season without a player whose most natural position is the right wing, for the 5th season running.

Who knows what discussions have been had, i don’t and don’t care, happy with this deal, simple as.

Panic buy. We have picked him up for the scrapheap, where he has been for months, because no other club will take him.

Cavani has a better pedigree and if Kane leaves spurs to comes here he will break the wage structure.

Not trying to defend this signing but it could be far worse. We could have signed Joshua King for 15 or 20m

It's not our fault Daniel Levy is a cheap cnut.

Don’t be a soft lad, I’ll come back to you if this goes through and he does well.

If we finish anywhere near the top two you can fek me with a broom handle. As long as I can do the same to you if we don't. We'll be lucky to make top 4 with this squad and manager.

To add to my previous post, earlier this year I was judging him against himself and in my opinion Cavani used to be an incredible player, anyone that has watched him regularly will understand it. We are talking about a physically imposing player that moves and acts like Rooney chasing every ball, making runs after runs, pressing like a mad man. Now he is just a poacher, I don't think that he is signiicantly worse than Icardi but at the same time he is a shadow of his former self which I think skews my judgement and maybe I'm underrating him. As for the amount of goals that he scored last season, you can blame Mbappé and Neymar who sometimes would ignore him because they have a bromance going on, only Di Maria manages to get between them but in the league 4 goals in 600 minutes still equates to +15 goals in +2000 minutes season which is good.

This is from our very own French poster, a journalist and Louis Saha all very positive about this signing.
