Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

People realise you can still be pissed at a shit window yet think a signing fills a hole and improves on his replacement?
Cavani is a smart fun signing for me, strengthens the squad.
If VDB and Cavani is our entire window it’s fecking horrific mind.
but that's what realistically is around the corner for us. We are not going to sign Jadon Sancho or another big player until Monday, it's just not going to happen. We might be able to push the Alex Telles deal over the line, but even that doesn't seem all that likely right now.

the reaction to this signing would have been completely different if we had actually signed other players this summer. Then yeah, plugging another hole with an experienced player like Cavani is more like a "sure, why not?" thing. But if you have a shocker of a window like we've had, and then pull out this signing with two days to go, it reeks of total desperation.

I hope Cavani smashes it. It's the non-existent planning and the overall cluelessness of our suits that piss me (and lots of others) off.

Absolute state of some fans on here trying to convince themselves this is a poisitve move for us. Embarrassing. You genuinely deserve Woodward and the Glazers.

And evidentially supported by them
Come on, top red, insult me directly. Or are you afraid your precious posting privileges will be taken away?

What the feck is so good about this signing? The fact we're paying stupid agent fees and wages when we've been banging about changing our policy for the past few months? The fact it flies in the face of all the 'corona has hurt us' logic and agenda from Deadwoodward?

If you cannot make a valid point don't try to insult people.

the 10m was apparently the reason no-one has touched him.

my guess, that figure has now changed, hence the “opportunity”.
So do i believe your 'guess' with presuming your lack of contacts in the professional football world, or do we believe Romano who has direct contact with clubs and agents. And we are supposed to be haggling with Sancho over 20/30m

Horseshit from the club. Guy has been available since July 1st. If he was a primary target then he would have been here weeks ago. Instead Ed has seen the fans frustration at not adding to the squad, and with two days of the window left we do this and spin this PR bullshit.
What’s wrong with having multiple targets? All managers talk about first, second, third choice targets, why shouldn’t we?

He's also not played as a number 9. Or should he score the same amount as the striker?
But it's Ligue 1 remember...

Mbappe averages a goal every ~90 mins
Cavani averages a goal every ~110 mins

That's not awful for a backup striker is it.

You are crazy for comparing Thiago to Cavani, seriously what the feck?
Mate, give it a rest.
I'm comparing their injury records you donut.
Just go back to your ire.

We can't be flinging that sort of money at his agent and not signing Sancho, can we? We can't. Sancho is coming home confirmed.

I'm not sure about confirmed but an extra 10 million on top of the current bid of 91 million and we are probably dead close to deal.

Oh my life.

Romano isn’t saying that’s the fee though is he? He’s saying that’s what they wanted from other clubs and why no-one did the deal.
What is agreed now he doesn’t know.

Absolute state of some fans on here crying over getting in an experienced proven goal scorer who will be a very good bench option. Embarrassing. You genuinely deserve each other.

Thank you!

If he can play the odd game and come on for the last 20 minutes and win a few points, I think it could make sense.

To answer a lot of posters here it's obvious from your post he is past his best. However, If Cavani was still young and had the power and ability of a few years back, he would not be on a free transfer. This is a stop-gap approach and probably brought in to coach some of our younger strikers.

To add to my previous post, earlier this year I was judging him against himself and in my opinion Cavani used to be an incredible player, anyone that has watched him regularly will understand it. We are talking about a physically imposing player that moves and acts like Rooney chasing every ball, making runs after runs, pressing like a mad man. Now he is just a poacher, I don't think that he is signiicantly worse than Icardi but at the same time he is a shadow of his former self which I think skews my judgement and maybe I'm underrating him. As for the amount of goals that he scored last season, you can blame Mbappé and Neymar who sometimes would ignore him because they have a bromance going on, only Di Maria manages to get between them but in the league 4 goals in 600 minutes still equates to +15 goals in +2000 minutes season which is good.

Former Paris St-Germain striker Edinson Cavani is due to fly into England on Sunday to join Manchester United.
The Uruguay international, 33, has been in talks with United and although there is no deal yet, it is growing increasingly likely Cavani will join on what could be a two-year contract.
He left PSG under a cloud following a disagreement with Neymar and feels he has more to give to European football.
United have been given a positive impression about the player's desire to play for the club and providing face-to-face talks confirm that impression, a deal will be done.
It is understood the package on the table does not go beyond the current pay structure, so United feel any comparisons with Alexis Sanchez, who was given a £350,000-a-week contract which he failed to come close to justifying, would be wide of the mark.
They also feel Cavani's age is not an issue and his experience will help develop the younger players in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad.
It is understood talks over signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho have not progressed, although club sources refuse to say whether United's attempt to land the 20-year-old England international is over.
United are braced for some criticism but feel Cavani's record justifies their move for him.
He is PSG's record goalscorer with 200, has scored 35 goals in 62 Champions League games and 50 in 116 internationals for Uruguay.
He has scored a total of 341 goals in 556 club games. Included in that are a club record of 200 goals in 301 appearances for PSG. He has also scored 50 goals in 116 internationals for Uruguay.

In addition, senior United officials have not forgotten the impact Zlatan Ibrahimovic had on the club when he joined them as a 34-year-old in 2016.
Cavani's availability was one reason why club sources said privately they were calm about their situation on Friday, when many supporters took to social media to express their disappointment at how the transfer window was unfolding.
If the deal does go through, one of Cavani's first games could be against PSG, who are United's opponents in their first Champions League group game at the Parc de Princes on 20 October
There is a reason old player is not given long contract.

Look at the very past season, and see why nobody pick him up when he has been available since June 30th

Higuain had a better record for Juventus yet Juventus decided to terminate his contract.

Context. Perspective.

Just remember Cavani is FREE

No he will want huge wages and he will be slow and sh1t just like all the other oldies that Ed has signed on a free to sell shirts. When will you guys see through this game?

And even if it’s a disaster, 200k for a free agents is absolutely peanuts these days, look at what Ramsey gets
Let’s see what happens.

Yep. People need to make up their minds what they want. They want depth in the squad, but it has to be good enough to influence a match without breaking the bank. This is that.

I rated Cavani in his prime, but haven''t followed him in the last couple of years. If his injury record really is that bad, and with his age, it's a bit worrying.

He does bring some aerial presence and poacher instinct, which i don' t believe we have right now. Question is if our Players can take advantage of that.

Even if this screams panic signing, i'm excited to see what he can bring to the table.

Higuain went to the MLS because no one wanted him. Benfica, Atletico and now us were after Cavani.

Antonio Valencia is on a free transfer. Get him in Ed, you know it makes sense, those crosses being pinged into Cavani. Dream world.

All depends on his attitude and how much he wants to be here. We payed Ibra some exorbitant wages I’m sure, but he was well worth it for his impact on the squad as well as his goal contributions.

200k for 12 months is not that bad especially without a transfer fee. Would absolutely be less than getting an Ings or Josh King.

I hear Pele is available too.

He's been available to sign all summer. Been available to speak to since January.

This deal wasn't planned. It's a last minute panic mate on a player who used to be top drawer and now is way past his best.

Quite excited to see him in a United shirt though surely to get the best out of him we need a top quality winger
