Edinson Cavani - SIGNED for United

They are absolutely dumb enough. And tbh, they'd be right.
I can see many on this forum being very happy that we signed 33 year old, formerly good player.

I don't see many 'very happy' people, just people who are judging this transfer on its merits and saying 'seems decent and fills a whole in the squad, not an ideal signing but ok lets see how he does and who else we sign' and other people who are looking at the whole transfer window debacle and acting like children.

Love how fickle our fans are

“Livid” at the club signing someone.

Guarantee you’d have the same reaction if Bale signed.

Wages too high, loan fee too high, agents fees too high. Wah wah wah. I’m never happy.

Grow up for crying out loud.

Multiple posts state that he fits the wage structure & it’s a one year deal. ONE F*****G YEAR DEAL!

We’re paying Ighalo £150K a week and no one cares! Cavani is allegedly £150K-180K

Agreed. This forum just has players it likes and doesn't like, it's weird.

Chelsea signed Thiago Silva and Arsenal signed William but apparently Manutd signing Cavani as backup striker is Europa league signing.

It is incompetence. You cannot paint this other than incompetence and desperation.

Ed has form for this. He's a great signing if you aren't too bothered about winning football games

Atletico didn't sign him because PSG refused to sell him without bringing someone.
The news at the time, as going by that link, you can see Atletico people bought the demand was too much for what PSG thought would get them some sort of replacement.

Remember if Atletico wanted Cavanni for long term purpose, then they're free to sign pre contract with him!

Atletico only looked at Cavani for short term fix at that very moment during season. When come summer after they got lucky break with Corona mid season break, and wrapping up CL qualification; there has been no solid link between them and Cavani; beside some generic meeting at Paris hotel new, that always brings a bell. It's not 3 months after Cavani got released by PSG. For a him to move to new club for new season, he has had since January to work out a deal with so called interested clubs.

That's the point.

Matt Judge will be happy to agree to pay big wages to a 33 year old, who we won't be able to get rid of due to the ridiculously high wage.
This is irresponsible and if all this is true, Matt Judge and Woodward should both be sacked.

Big wages? He's on a reported 200k

Pretty standard tbh.
when I checked in to see the outrage regarding Cavani's wages, I thought it is around Sanchez like wages. But no, 200k for a free transfer is average really.

Right Cavani:

Positives:
- He's Cavani
- Experienced
- 1 year deal with option for another (not a long contract)
- Different type of striker, gives another option
- Allows us to plan for another proper striker by the time his contract ends
- Boost it gives the players seeing Cavani in the team, young players can learn a lot from him

Negatives
- Age
- Injury record
- Wages (not sure how much it will be yet but short contract so meh)
- Agent fees

I will take him

To the Pros I would add:

Can help school our young front 3
Better backup than Igahlo
New dimension to our attack as a proper target striker

A worthy acquisition.

Cavani’s agent last month

"Do you think that Edi did not play for almost a month at PSG so that I could drop the operation for a commission and that Edi did not fulfill his dream of going to Atletico Madrid? If it were for money, Edi would have gone to England, Manchester or Chelsea."

Maybe because Ole is always talking about his long term plans for the club and now Ed/the Glazers have come back with a panic buy 2 days before the window shuts that gets us an (has been?) ancient striker for 1 season. Pathetic planning, pathetic business. Every single one of these useless morons above Ole should be sacked and never work in football again.

Is that the 'whole' left by Alexis for a has-been on a free?

He does. Matt Judge too, just poorly ran overall.

But I can't see him selling much shirts, it's just a desperate last minute signing. Someone better than no one kinda deal.

You do realise he's not signing a 5-year deal, right?

On a positive note. Maybe Ole will decide to interchange Mason and Elanga on the right wing. This way Cavani can deputise for Rashford an Martial. I think Elanga and Laird will have a break through season
Elanga does look promising but is it too soon for him ?

I don't think this signing is desperation as many would think. We were never in for a striker who is young and top of his game that would cost 50m+

We were always going to buy a backup striker that didn't cost much and would be happy to be back up. No striker like King for example would join and be happy to be back up, plus he would be costly and he isn't even a top striker.

I hope we will eventually get a striker like Haaland after in a couple of years.

Get rid of Romero for a couple of mil and you've practically paid for this guy (with the saved wages factored in).

It's a great signing if he's not a crock.

This is exactly it, however, there are some United fans that will never be happy with any transfer that isn't the best player in his position aged 19-22 and even then they would say its embarrassing that we spent too much on him or took too long to sign him.

Chelsea also signed Havertz, Werner, and Chilwell. And we aren't fecking Arsenal.

Doesn't take a genius to work out.

Yes you're right. Sanchez was good signing too. Ed and Co are doing a great job backing the manager.

Many here were applauding those signings as well claiming them to be shrewd.

Can't argue against this deal. His record speaks for itself and he is an exemplary example of how to conduct yourself on and off the pitch. His wages are paid for by Igahlo's impending departure. Unless he remains a crock, I see little to no risk to this deal on a short-term 18month contract. Great bit of business.

Yea the reaction has been a bit OTT,it's a low risk deal for us while improving our depth.

Sure it hasn't been a banner window by any means but this signing isn't anywhere near as awful as most seem convinced

its reported 200k which around the same as Salah and more than Firminho/Mane. His own agent who we are paying 10m took the piss out of us before it aswell

We haven't managed to actually sell anyone this transfer window. What sort of delusion makes you believe we can do it with 2 days to go?

This might be the angriest I've ever been at these incompetent fecking leeches.

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I am bemused how on Earth our board could even contemplate this deal.

That wasn't the point I was making. To upgrade to Cavani as our backup from Igahlo is great. Not sure why people are moaning about it.

Decent option, means we can switch to a diamond with Cavani and Martial up top and Bruno or VDB in behind, doesn't sound too bad does it?

And for everyone having a meltdown about the Sancho deal, just a little reminder of the player that currently occupies our right wing.

Greenwoods debut season
Goal involvement avg. 115mins

Rooneys debut season
Goal involvement avg. 180mins

Ronaldos debut season
Goal involvement avg. 302mins

Give the kid another 12 months of regular first team football and he'll be better than Sancho.

He was a great signing at the time. Even to this day Ander Herrera is still baffled how that one didn't work out.

I'm thinking Falcao and Sanchez.
Words cannot describe how angry I am at the irresponsible way our club is being run.
Not the ideal sitation, far from it but trust me if he stays fit he will prove you wrong. Cavani shouldn't be compared to those two he always works hard for the team no matter what. I'm 100% certain if he stays injury free he will prove to be valuable.

go on give it a go.

perhaps you can thrown in a couple from embarrassing, pathetic, outrageous, incompetence.

Does that get you started?

by the way, I’m very indifferent. Not excited, not outraged.
