Im a big VdB fan, wasn’t criticising him but funny how this works. For me it’s simple - we are terrible in offensive possession and game management and have a midfielder in our team who literally grew up in a system designed for both of those thing but we persists with combinations of poor players, players who are waiting to leave on a free or has beens.

Not only that, I wouldn't mind seeing him on for Bruno every once in a while. He might lack Bruno's flair for the dramatic, but a tidy midfielder who can make things tick over wouldn't go amiss from time to time (and might even bring out a better version of Pogba.)

He did just fine in his limited time so far this season. Also a bit of a rich comparison considering how Matic is pretty much always out of position these days because his legs are gone. No matter how well he supposedly reads the game.

The thing is you need those players who are good at the basic stuff to provide a platform for the magicians. Without that platform and security in possession what happened today becomes a regular occurance.
