Donkai Havertz | Arsenal Watch

It feels like he’s been around forever but it’s worth noting that he’s still just 24 years old. So plenty of good years ahead of him.

And I just looked because I liked the comparison someone made earlier comparing Havertz to Firmino. And Firmino only had one season statistically better than what Kai has produced this season. And Kai has played a lot of midfieldand there are 3 games remaining.

If he starts full time at CF next season, I think 20 and 10 is definitely possible for him

Kai is better at heading. Firmino is better as a shadow striker.

It has to be said that Firmino was brought in to Liverpool as an attacking midfielder but Klopp told him that he's a forward who has to score goals.

I think Kai and Firmino are two different players though. A better comparison would be between Kai and G. Jesus since both can play as striker. Kai may need to move to midfield so that other forwards like Jesus, Nketiah Trossard or even Martinelli get to play more.

With the striker market devoid of options, think this is our best bet and focus primarily on getting another CM. Even if Partey and Jorginho both stay (unlikely), neither can be relied upon to stay fit and play 2-3 games a week. So we'll need a top class CM to come in and that won't be cheap. Maybe we get another squad option striker to replace Nketiah who'll probably leave.

Don't think I've hated a German player more in my lifetime. All the sympathy for him, it's ofcourse not easy mentally for him but ffs man.

I feel a bit bad for him because I just don't think he's a striker. I don't know why everyone plays him there - the result is just inevitable

The problem is, what is he? What does he do? What is he good at? He used to at least score crucial goals and now he doesn't even do that.

But i thought Arteta has unlocked him

I mean he's "good" at most things - and he's got great work rate and athleticism. I think he's potentially a very good box to box midfielders with his attributes but maybe just lacks that extra bit there for a top club?

He's just been poorly developed imo.

I dont think he played terribly but the expectation was high and he delivered none. All farts but no shit

If he could finish even decently he'd be a top striker. Right now he simply isn't someone you can depend on.

The criticism is harsh but it's just that he is not the a striker per se, I think. He's been shoehorned - and not only by Nagelsmann, also by Arsenal - to the position of a 9 (or false nine), only because in modern football there's not enough central forwards, and no place for second strikers/pure tens. He was never really meant to be the main goalscorer and the lethal finisher, I think.

The thing is he's not really a striker to begin with, he doesn't really fit in there but so many mangers seem to insist with him up there so what do I know.

If Arteta is smart he cuts him loose. Will never win the PL with him.

That miss when the keeper was out his goal was actually really poor. And to be honest I never had any confidence in him finishing that

He’s good at most things but not very good at anything. So will probably never be a truly elite player.

Chelsea managing to get £65m when offloading him to Arsenal was a truly remarkable transfer feat. What a trashy player!

Portugal would have played better football, beaten France and been the favourites to go all the way if they had Donkai up front.

Don't think Arsenal fans are complaining. He was massive in the second half of the season when they made him a striker, it's just frustrating he couldn't translate that form to Germany.

His finishing leaves a lot to be desired, but have you stopped to think why he gets in so many finishing positions to begin with?

Bitter Chelsea fans everywhere are quick to remind us how poor he is, how well Chelsea have done to get 65m for him. I think it’s because they know what Havertz game is about, why he is picked over and over. How he shows up in games and gives you key moments.

That’s why he is so useful to Arsenal and Germany. His work on and off the ball is what makes him so impactful as a player, both for others and himself when he finds pockets of space in the box, which he and other strikers can jump into. He does need more confidence and composure on the ball, and I’m sure Arteta will bring that out more with coaching.

Super player to have for the Arsenal system, gives our other attackers extra room to move.

Indeed. Arsenal can use him very good way but Chelsea got good money for him. Remember he is still very young. Can develop into better player. Will see I think he need to add mass a bit.

He is trash. Arsenal had some great attackers. He wouls be on the bench in their peak Wenger era. People have short memories.

Pretty much all of the current Arsenal team would be on the bench in peak Wenger era. What is that statement supposed to mean?

It's typical of the centre-forward-light era we're in that the two best teams in the Euros played one another and the best strikers they could muster were Havertz, Morata and Olmo.

Good player, underwhelming striker.

I mean I get the criticism in the immediate aftermath of Germany going out but there’s some revisionism going on in this thread.

He was very good at the tail end of the season, scored and assisted some crucial goals and was certainly a vast improvement on the player that first joined Arsenal.

Bit odd to shit on Arsenal cos of how he’s done in a knockout comp for Germany.

Absolutely spot on. I was sceptical at first but he's grown into his role at Arsenal. That said, if Bayern came in with a 50m plus offer would you take it? I would.

I hope we continue with him in the striker role. It is hard to find a player who combines his height and strength with this technique and passing. His finishing was off during the tournament but that was actually one of his strongest attributes before the Chelsea move. With his latest Arsenal run in mind, I'm optimistic he can become clinical again. Think Nagelsmann actually did right by trusting him over Füllkrug since his link up play was very valuable to us.

I cant take anyone seriously who doesnt rate his clear footballing abilities. Far superior than Füllkrug and I think you could see that in this tournament as well, especially after yesterdays game.

If he could even just slightly improve his finishing he'd be a monster player. But how on earth do you coach that into him?

He offers strength and physicality, while at the same time being very good technically. He is easily a 65 million player in today’s market. He also doesn’t shy away in big games and often comes up with important goals, so he has the mentality too.

If Arsenal don’t buy a striker and derail his development up top, I think he will have a massive season.
