Television Doctor Who

I've decided to watch this before I go out to watch the boxing. It'll overlap, so I wont see the end, thus it'll be even more incomprehensible nonsense than usual. I'm going to get really drunk and shout at it.

Tbf, looking through this thread, I've been a bit mean about Dr Who. I'm actually quite intrigued by it. From a cultural POV it's unique, and from a writing POV it's very interesting with what it can do. Also I like Matt Smith and find him very watchable. It's just wildly unpredictable and varies in quality drastically. Which I suppose is part of it's charm. I certainly get it's appeal more than Star Wars at any rate. It's sometimes actually well written.

Right. I'm going to start drinking. Is this going to be fanwank, or will I be able to understand at least 30% of it?

I want to feck the absolute shit out of Jenna Louise Coleman.

I thought the Time War was time locked and the Master tried to bring it back but the Doctor stopped him?

The last 5 minutes or so was pretty powerful. But ultimately an anti climax as they refuse to press the button. Now they are on a 'save the world' quest.

Yawn, why couldn't they do the bad thing for a change.

The way this was hyped up you'd think it was going to be arguably the best episode ever, but there's a few I'd put before it.

The way it was hyped up, I thought Matt Smith's Doctor might have to die in the process.

This means that in future series we are likely to see the Time Lords brought back for good! How cool is that!!?

It seems the yanks are into this big time. They have been holding screenings over in yank land for this. Why ?

Well that was exciting and confusing.

I didnt think it was only the Darleks and the Time Lords locked in that moment, I'm sure the 10th Doctor said loads of different things where in there. And stuff.

So the big enemy in the 50th anniversary episode was few walking tongues? Or the daleks? Or conscience? Or something. I'm not really sure what I just watched.

In Doctor Who, all the best ideas and themes end up being anti-climatic and boring. Even going back to season one (of the current generation), Bad Wolf, Darkness will Fall, Cracks in the Universe and the Explosion of the TARDIS, have all been rushed and quite badly done.

It was possibly easier with Tennants doctor as they had less overarching themes, I think.
They always do this. Build it up and built it up again until its a bigger and bigger anti-climax. The idea itself is great, but they don't have the budget or the directorship to pull it off as spectacularly as they would like.

I enjoyed the episode but it wasn't brilliant or anything. The best episodes of the recent run have all been much lower budget; the first Weeping Angels one, the first OOD one, the one where the Master returned.

And where were the Darleks? They still havent got over rebooting the Darleks in "new coke" style.

You know that bit where he married the queen?

Well that was fecking ridiculous.

The enemies were just blatant rip off's of Andy Millman in Extras.

There were screenings in the UK, just got back from one. It was quite something in 3D and huge tbf, if only for Piper and Coleman

Though it was quite good but not epic, trying to figure how this fits into tenants return of the timelords episode. I guess that was the rewritten history but he had knowledge of them being trapped where as he shouldn't have....i think

Yeah thats what I was confused about. Can anyone find a nice Doctor Who fan board where this is being discussed?

I havent got a clue. That does need to be completely rewritten; the Time Lords were (along with the Darleks and the rest) escaping from that pocket universe. Now they are just lost somewhere. Christ it's worse than the conservative website.

Soo... what the feck happened to all of them eh?

Other Videos from that episode

I could understand screenings in the UK but why are so many yanks so into this

Some Americans have (somehow) been into it for ages. Maybe they've been torrenting them since the reboot.

I mean, why are we all into Breaking Bad? That got showed on like, two random channels at about half past 4am on Thursday mornings or something in the UK. We live in a global world now, separated only by language barriers. Hype transcends across thousands of miles of water in seconds.

As with all these cluster feck super hero type films/tv specials/whatever, the best bits were the bickering.

I enjoyed that. John Hurt was brilliant, story was ok and I'm glad it made some sense by the end of it.

Looks like the Christmas episode will be a massive battle between the doctor and everyone.

As long as that includes the Scara Deglegations, the Horde of Travesties and the Nightmare Child (who could have been king with his army of mean-wahs and never-weres) then I will be happy.

Does know one understand the bit at the end? David and Hurt won't remember this I don't think. 11 will only remember it, from this point in time. Gallifrey still exists in a pocket, but David and Hurt don't know that. Wibbley Wobbley Timey Wimey and all that.

I really enjoyed it, it even got a round of applause in the cinema

How can you just walk out of a photo whenever you want if it's a frozen image of time? You wouldn't know when to walk out because you'd be frozen in the image! Otherwise everyone would just wander in and out at will! Darleks would pop out whenever they fancied a visit to the chippy!

That still means there's a plot hole in that the Doctor thinks he destroyed Gallifrey entirely at the point of the other Christmas special. Meaning the whole idea of Gallifrey and the Time War coming out of a time locked parallel universe is wrong because Gallifrey, to the Doctor's knowledge, no longer exists because he pushed the button.

Because it's 3D, noodle. Come on, keep up.

I'm sure the questions will be answered.
