Television Doctor Who

I hope it's not Ron from the Potter films.

Oh look at this...
Is it real? Is it fake? Do I know? Hell no. Otherwise, I'm excited and losing patience, quickly.

It's fake. But it's an exceptionally well CGI'd fake for someone to make, let alone 3D for no real reason.

Geeks are weird.

A live show of what?

A doctor who reveal hosted by Zoe Ball with Matt Smith and Moffat, with a live audience

Normally Doctor Who TV is wary of writing up”big announcements”, especially when there has been a string of rumours lately that have amounted to nothing. However, it’s finally happening!

Press sources have leaked that the BBC will finally announce the 12th Doctor this weekend.

A special programme on will air this Sunday 4 August at 7pm on BBC1 entitled Doctor Who Live: The Next Doctor. A deliberate disposable repeat of Celebrity Mastermind is currently listed in the timeslot.

The show is going to be filmed in front of a live studio audience with Zoe Ball unveiling the next Doctor. The show will also feature interviews with past Doctors and companions.

Interestingly, this week saw Peter Capaldi inexplicably leap to the top of the bookies lists. Is this because he’s won the role? We’ll find out soon enough.

The BBC are expected to officially confirm the programme at midnight.

I hope it's not Ron Weasley.

I hope it is (an older bloke, not Ron Weasley), or at least someone a bit different. Anything but another quirky, prancy Doctor.

Ok, Ron Weasley.

I like that about Doctor Who. If they got an older bloke I just think it would be overly serious which would be awful.

Just seen on the Mail website, that 2 of the people it could be are
Dame Helen Mirren and comedienne Miranda Hart , I hope not, Mirren is OK but not for the Doctor, but I cant stand Hart, I think she is dreadful.
The Thick of It star Peter Capaldi is another one, he could do a decent job.

This IS in The Guardian online
Bookmakers have installed Capaldi, best known as the profanity-spewing spin doctor Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It, as the favourite. Twitter users suggested a few Tucker-esque one-liners for Capaldi for the more family-friendly role, using the hashtag #tuckerwholines. "Oi, Dalek. Stuff your lollipop up your shiny metal arse, you mincing tin twat," .
Cutting It star Ben Daniels is also in contention, as is Skyfall actor Rory Kinnear. David Harewood, Olivia Colman, and Billie Piper also get a mention.

I'm not happy about them revealing it like this. Would be much better if it was during an episode, but I suppose they want to be able to start filming the next series to air next spring

Oh and If its Miranda Hart I will not be watching, I despise that unfunny cow

I have enough faith in the producers of the show not to cast Miranda Hart as The Doctor, the first female to play that role no less.

Edit: Considering that for the past few seasons fans have been going to shoot locations taking photos, it wouldn't have been kept a secret for very long. At least this way, they get to reveal it on their own terms.

I think the balance between stupidness and seriousness has been fairly good. Would an older doctor be able to convey the silliness as well as a younger doctor? I'm not sure, it might look a bit forced.

The new Doctor is named today.

I've heard that Idris Elba is in the running, that would be awesome.

I hope they don't go some a young, pretty faced guy again.

Also, not Ron Weasley please.

Bookies have stopped taking bets on Capaldi

If it is an older doctor I'd like it to be Hugh Laurie

I just hope it's not Carol Bloody Vorderman.

I wouldn't mind Rachel Riley as the assistant though.
