Television Doctor Who

Irene Adler in Sherlock. There's another one he couldn't let die.

Someone needs to be employed full time to make sure Steven Moffat's characters stay dead.

Well, not really, she was given eternal life (albeit in a computer simulation).

A ghost of her really, or a memory. I'd say that she died.

I agree with the rest of it, Rory died more times than a.. er.. computer game character?

Yeah I'd say River died which I completely forgot about actually. Us meeting her for the first time was her last ever meeting with the doctor.

Thunderously? Why that's the worst kind of racist.

That is a funny quote to be fair, but the 'academics' dredging up the fact that one villain was Chinese is a bit lame.

Surely Dr Who is 'thunderously sexist' too given the doctor is always a bloke.

Matt Smith will leave after the Christmas special this year.

Slightly disappointed, I thought he and Clara worked well together.

:(

I properly started watching Doctor Who during David Tennant's last couple of episodes, so I wasn't really that sad to see him go because I didn't really make a bond with him. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching Matt Smith though - from the very first episode he's been quality in my opinion. Will be very, very strange to see him go.

Next Doctor will have some big shoes to fill - I guess Matt Smith had big shoes to fill too, and he A'ced it.

So any ideas on who should take over?

Benedict Cumberbatch would have been a candidate if he hadn't done Sherlock.

Am I missing something? Isn't the 'next' (not sequentially of course) Doctor John Hurt?

I thought he was just going to be a one off for the 50th anniversary show?

John Hurt is meant to play the real 9th, or a version that came between the 8th and 9th.

A lot of people say Benedict Cumberbatch, but he's probably to big for the role now. He's moving into Hollywood films.

Try and find out where the auditions are, then break into the building, go into the room through the ceiling and do a monologue in character. You'll get the job just on the basis that it'll sound good on chat shows.

Why not just go back and watch it from eccleston, it's a good watch.

Hear hear!

Probably the best 10 episodes (or however many there were) in a row. Actually the first one was pretty dull.

Edit: wrong hear

Anything with Rose in it is complete tripe. She's the second worst companion, after Amy and Rory.

Rooney's handed a transfer request in so that he can go and play The Doctor. The timing all makes sense now.

Smith is very good but its not at all surprising that he's leaving. It cant have gone unnoticed to him that this show has become utter tripe

Probably more to do with that he's been noticed in Hollywood and is landing movie roles.

For the main companions, from worst to the best:

Code:
Martha Jones
Dona Noble
Clara Oswald
Amy Pond
Rose Tyler

For the expanded list, something like this:

Code:
Martha Jones
Micky Smith
River Song
Dona Noble
Rory Williams
Wilfred Mott
Clara Oswald
Amy Pond
Sarah Jane Smith :(
Rose Tyler
Jack Harkness

feck its actually quite hard. Both lists are based only on how much I can stand them being on the screen.

How can you possibly like Amy Pond? All she ever was was an annoying plot device. No matter what the Doctor told her to do, she did the exact opposite and then the plot for the episode would build from there; the Doctor has to save Amy from her own stupidity, yet again. Boring as sin.

Best to worst:

Clara Oswald
Donna Noble
Martha Jones
Rose Tyler
Amy Pond.

Donna and Amy were the joint worst in my opinion.

Rose is the best but I think Clara will be my favourite once she's given a full season and some better stories.

Alright...step one fly across the Atlantic.

Step 2......haha...

I feel this can only end in failure and perhaps a criminal record.

Amy did have one advantage ;)

Amy Pond and Rose Tyler are the only ones who ever did anything interesting. I freely admit that I was sick of Amy by the end though.

I thought he was just going to be a one off for the 50th anniversary show?

is he not some part of the doctors big secret?

Oh, that's a shame. I thought the next 'series' was finally going to focus on the secret 9th Doctor and we were going to see the time war, timelords, daleks and everything. Actually, that would be awesome and with John Hurt even more awesomer.

Then, at the end of the series, John Hurt would die and we'd return to the 12th Doctor whomever that may be.
