A player being so inconsistent and having such a huge spread in performance is highly unreliable. If he cannot find consistency until summer, we need to sell him or keep him as back up only

We have to find a left wingman fast to let Dalot play on the right, that's where he belongs. After so many matches on the left, he can be suficient, but it's clear that he can't do half the things he does on the right side.

One game. Let's see if he's decent in the next 3 as well. He always had this odd very good game, but without consistency it means nothing

He was consistent last year and for a big part the season before. But it's true. He can't finish this whole season with a couple of good games. He has too be consistent or be gone.

I wouldn't sell him. He can be a good squad player due to his versatility. A bit like O'Shea. But we definitely need a proper consistent LWB.

Shoutout to @kouroux manifesting Dalot using his left foot. Looking much much better since he started doing it
Honestly it was way too obvious of a problem. The moment he brings variety is when he can create problems.
Not being a naturally left (or right) footed player should never make players never attempt to use their weaker foot

I hope that game was the game he finally understood how to play as wingback and how to play in Amorim’s system. Only time will tell if it’s the case.

Yeah, constantly shit.

He has been one of our poorer starters in recent years, no doubt. The blunders and feck ups he made, especially last year, were really bad and cost us. His positioning and defending is mediocre at best, and unfortunately he does not compensate that with great crossing or attacking skills

Absolutely mental take. He's been comfortably one of our top 3/5 players the last 2 seasons. He's been poor this season for the most part though.

I just can't understand why does he pull some of the dumbest pieces of defending every few games. That yellow was absolutely criminal, the way he put himself on a booking was braindead.

Not really If you can't take the ball then stop the man is what most defenders do in that situation. We need more of that not less, we've gone too long refraining from tactical fouls.

Taking yellows is not an issue most top teams do it. The only issue is if players are then reckless and get themselves sent off, he wasn't and he didn't.

This can't be understated. He's Mr Reliable in terms of fitness but that has come at a cost to his game. I'm sure he's probably getting more familiar with the system now as well.
That is something that gets overlooked a bit. Including internationals he's played 91 matches since the start of last season and almost all of them have been for the full 90 minutes. And last season in particular the amount of space he was covering was huge, with him expected to both invert into helping the midfield while also keeping the width at other times, all while also having to use his speed to charge back and put in countless last ditch tackles after the rest of our slower defence was caught out. Even this season while ETH was here he was being relied on to be the surprise target of the long ball over the top of the defenders.

He's probably the best athlete in the squad but we should still be trying to give him the odd rest.

It sounds like he doesnt quite have it to consistently start but he seems to have the mentality to show up and do a role ehich suggests he would be a dependable utility player ala o’shea, phil neville etc.

When he's bad he's really bad, but last season he definitely wasn't consistently shit. Granted its a low bar, but he was one of our best players.

He's been diabolical this season so far though.

It will be interesting to see how he does once he isn't being repeatedly asked to play in different positions.

He was literally our best player last season. Admittedly it was a low bar, but he was one of the few that came out of last season with credit.

He also finished 21/22 well and was consistently good in the first half of 22/23. Admittedly he was a bit up and down in the second half of that season, but if we look at the last three years in total (January 22 through to January 25) there's very few who have a better ratio of good to bad performances. People just have short memories because of him being poor so far this season.

It's an enormous work load, especially with the points you make about his role in ETH's system. People are keen to shit on him at any opportunity but never take into account that he almost literally plays every single minute at very high intensity.

Just took the handbrake off and went for it, maybe he finally understands he can take more attacking risks playing in the wingback position. Problem with Dalot is there are too many ups and downs, let's hope he can build and continue on yesterday's performance. We will be a much better team once both flanks are functioning.

Thats insane numbers. Is it any wonder he's looked knackered and borderline lazy at times this season

Had to double check what thread I was in after reading this nonsense

Just look at the games in the EL, I think he made quite a few mistakes there that led to goals (Gala and Copenhagen I believe)

When was he really good? How many assists did he have vs how many mistakes? On this very forum, fans couldn't wait for AWB to come back after his injury

He was never that good, we just dont know what a quality RB looks like. His positioning is off, he very often makes a mistake or loses focus, his tackling is mediocre and going forward he is not a real threat and believes his Disney shots from far out are helping

Salah hardly ran through today… he was in Dalots pocket even after the early yellow.

This is a bit over the top, Salah was still one of Liverpool's most dangerous players, he had lots of touches in our box, several shots, and had multiple chances to run at Martinez (who coped very well). He didn't run riot or anything, and Dalot mostly did well to contain him, but it certainly wasn't a pocketing.

Tactical fouls are only smart if you get away with it or you are in a position that it is worth the card. He got his in the most stupid of manners, in the 23rd minute of the game and I think it was very much avoidable.

Dalot finally played like an actual wing-back instead of an inverted one, and honestly, what a difference that made!

It feels like it took forever for him to shake off those ETH tactics, but this was the first game where he really played the way Amorim wants. And you could see how much it changed everything. In Amorim’s system (as we all know), wing-backs are so crucial, and Dalot finally showed he can deliver.

What I loved was how he didn’t overthink his crosses—he just whipped them in, even with his left foot! It was so refreshing to see. He created some great chances, and you could tell Liverpool wasn’t expecting his overlapping runs or those quick deliveries.

What standout abilities did he show then?
He's one of the best athletes in the league for a start. He hasn't shown it much this season but his technical ability is actually very high, has a good passing range, powerful runner with ball and capable of beating a man from a standing start. In defense, he's excellent in the air for a FB, recovers extremely well due to his pace and strength, has stamina to bomb up and down all day. Like I say, he's been mostly poor this season but it's just categorically false to say he's been one of our worst players in the last couple of seasons.

Don't need to make up stuff to criticise him.

It was a perfectly good first time cross on his weaker foot right in the space in between Allison and the penalty spot. Would a ball on the floor been better? Yes but I doubt many players in the world would have been able to deliver that first time on their weaker foot with pace at the right place.

Amad overran and read the flight of the ball entirely wrong.

I’ll admit my mistake for sure, thought he dribbled it.
But i can teach you something about when you’re running at a ball, you have momentum and a first hit is actually quite strong. If your argument is that a professional play can’t play a floor pass while running cause it’s on their weak foot, which they do all game, it’s a very poor argument man. Just like cause i forgot the play and you’re claiming im making things up, also poor.

Poor argument
Poor pass
