H did an interview with the recently where he said he was hurt by the manager saying we lack leaders in the team.

If that was him saying he can be a leader in this team he failed miserably.

If that was a last ditch goal saving tackle I wouldn't mind him going in like that.

Merino was almost by the half way line with a ball going close to the line, just jockey him but he decides to dive in.

He doesn't make contact with ball or man but the moment he does that he gives the ref an excuse and of course the arsenal player rolled a few more times to sell it.

Really consistent last season, but this year has just largely been brainfart after brainfart.

Been playing like someone who hasn't slept for days.

He needs to be replaced asap. He had a surprisingly good game against Liverpool but he was facing Trent.
He clearly has some ability, but he just doesn’t have the intelligence to play at this level.

Well look, disappointing after last week. If we had lost that one, it would have been a massive blow to him. The lads bailed him out though. We go again, as the man said.

I think the red was not really deserved. However, he should have a better understanding of the officiating situation.

It was still stupid of him to dive in
And it was not a red card and he made sure he avoided the man when he realised he couldnt get to the ball. Therefore he did do much wrong and its not his fault the ref is a fecking prick.

I have no issue with a player putting in challenges against Arsenal ffs

Dalot's decision making confuses me, and once again we suffered because something between his ears is just off.

It was clear from the time Andy Madley carded Bruno for being fouled that he was after us. Why give him the opportunity to reduce us to 10 men?

Get rid. Looks like last season was a fluke. Not good enough to play this system.

It wasn't a red, it was a yellow. A 2nd yellow at a time when we were 1-0 up and quite comfortable.

Dalot of course decided that cruising easy to the end of the game is not in his Portuguese blood.

If this was any other fanbase, we’d be putting most of the blame where it belongs, on the referee. We’re very harsh on our players.

Neither was a yellow card.
I get being supportive of one of our own, the second foul is 100% a yellow. It is was completely unnecessary to go to ground there, after a bad touch. To do this when you are already on a yellow and given the referee’s being very free with the cards, it is bordering on insanity. I will given him the benefit as the occasional error is greatly outweighed by the players upside.

Amorim does need to give him a proper scolding on Tuesday.

Exactly. He's 25-26 with lot of experience and let himself do that. All that with no VAR so basically there's no comeback if referee decides to send you off. Really stupid decision making and it would've been a frustrating way to get knocked out of the competition if we lost.

With this red card, is he unavailable for Southampton or Leicester (next cup game)?
Southampton

We were all watching the game, ref wasn't giving us anything. Don't give him an excuse

It was a second yellow the threshold is not the same as red card.

It was not even a foul let alone a yellow

It shouldn’t even have been a yellow or even a foul. Again you are saying our players shouldn’t go into challenges in a big game just because the ref could be an idiot. He realised he couldn't get the ball and made evasive action.

I don’t even like Dalot and think hes shite, but come on. Getting blamed here is silly

Everytime you go flying in like that and miss the ball, 90% of the time the refs calls a foul. Maybe we can argue whether he needs to touch the man or not, but with the rules situation as it is now it was always likely to be a foul and a yellow because of his speed

Also, we were 1-0 up, not 1-0 down.

Silly decision to slide in hindsight but at the time I thought it was a ball easily won and urged him to do it. First yellow card was incredibly harsh IMO, he didn’t even see the player behind him who just got his foot ahead of Dalot as he attempted to clear.

I can't remember what he did but I said about 30 seconds before he was sent off that he was brainless at times, and then he went and did that.

I wouldn't shed a tear if we looked to move him on in the summer.

Rush of blood at a period where we were all hyped up after our goal, it happens. He wasn't going to pull out of a tackle and was a second late. Not gonna shit on our players for having some head loss during big moments to be honest, the composure will come when doing good things on the field stops being a novelty

What does he get by diving in closer to the centre circle? Nothing

You read the game not the occasion. I am on a yellow card, ref is giving the opposition every foul, you are away from home right in front of their bench.

Come on, use your head, stay on your feet and fight for the ball. It was lazy because he didn't want to make up ground by running.

He could have even stayed on his feet, run towards the ball and crunch both man and ball.

Just watch the replay and see how his eyes lit up

Dalot is just one of those players, once the switch goes on in his head to do something, no matter how foolish or risky it might be, he doesn't have an "off" switch.

I don't know if that will ever go out of his game, but he owes his teammates big time tonight!

He is a bit dim.

We had a decent spell in the first half with Arsenal contained and he just fouled someone for no reason to let them out. Then rugby tackling someone on an attacking corner and then the second yellow.

He’s technically quite good but regularly does things like this leaving you bewildered.

This season he’s been good for doing something completely daft once a game.

Such a strange challenge because it was one of those you go into knowing you are never going to make it to the ball. Knowing he was on a red it seemed ridiculous.

Does he serve the ban Thursday night ?
Yes, found this online.

"Red cards are a different matter altogether. If a player is red-carded in an FA Cup tie, that carries over to the Premier League - or whatever domestic competition immediately follows their sending-off"

Had to be the case, as otherwise you could get a red in an FA cup, get knocked out and not have to serve it for a year!

If it was an absolutely critical critical area of the pitch, or with 3mins left you could maybe understand it.

But it was on 60mins and just inside our half with loads of covering players!

Doesn't take too many words to sum up Dalot: fantastic full back, diabolical wingback.

I think we all naturally underrate a footballers ability to learn new things because they grow up seldom diversifying from their specialists positions but I genuinely don't think he has the natural tendencies to play as the wingback.

I want everyone to make a mental note of every time Dalot concedes a very cheap freekick.

Opposition player facing his own corner flag? Dalot has got you.

Opposition player going nowhere and surrounded by three of our players? Dalot has got you.

Opposition player is outside the box and facing away from goal? Dalot has got you.

Opposition player has a 90% chance of winning a duel? Dalot has got you.

There are no end to the ways in which Dalot will conspire to give away freekicks that no player in the history of football will give so consistently.

Yes, he’s certainly not the most Einsteinan of players, and it shows everytime he approaches the last third and has to think. He’s a hard worker, loyal tactically, good stamina and good on-th-ball-technique though, and last year he was very good IMO, certainly top 4 material on those performances. This year he’s been a constant weak link though, pointing towards mental exhaustion hitting him where it hutmrts him most - his wits.

Completely moronic today. On a yellow and puts in that challenge on the half way line is school boy stuff. Needs a right kick in the arse by all the players and staff that had to suffer extra time.

Has to be one of the stupidest players we've ever had.

The amount of times he does something daft is incredible. He's having a horrible season.

How are people saying it wasn't a second yellow?!? It 100% was a yellow. He dived in and missed the ball.

Said it before but he’s like Fred sometimes in that, when he plays, the gods flip a coin and you see the best or the worst. Against Liverpool we saw the best of him, today another brain fart that could have cost us.

Honestly think we would have seen off the game pretty comfortably had he not been sent off.

Need an upgrade. We need players with high footballing intelligence. Not brain dead players that will let us down week after week

The first easily was. The second, there was minimal contact and another referee has a word but given that he already knew what this referee was like, was on a yellow and he did it right in front of the Arsenal dugout, there was only ever going to be one result and it was brain dead to go to ground like.
Yeah that second one really shouldn't merit a yellow card but is it any wonder the way the Arsenal player reacted and Arteta and his bench jumped up as if they'd seen an atrocity infront of their eyes, and the players all surrounded such a weak ref

Exactly, thank you. He did a stupid thing and almost got us out of the cup with that. Also, found it bit odd how he and Mazraoui switched sides in 2nd half, don't think Amorim has done that in previous games.

Dalot had a top 23/24 season as a RB or a LB if needed. This season hasn't been great for him from the start and new formation certainly didn't help that. Hopefully he can be decent enough wingback for rest of the season if club doesn't sign anyone this January, just to get us through the season.
