This is the key point, I wouldnt suddenly stop going to work and expect to keep getting paid. If he wants to leave, then he has to go about it in the proper way. Negotiate with the club to find an acceptable solution for both parties, not throw a tantrum and refuse to play like a spoilt little bitch.

They both had negotiation that they will sign a quality striker like Lacazette but end up with Zaza. Payet lost interested to play from that moment. He is then talked to his manager about this and wanted to leave in January but the club and manager are insisting to keep him because they don't want to sell him. So the best way to get out from the club is forcing them to sell him by said he doesn't want to play anymore because him and his agent know that they will need to sell him if they don't want to afford to lose a lot of money for nothing. The club's fault for being stupid to give the player a big money contract + failed to sign a quality striker, they should know that they are not big club and this situation would happen soon or later if they can't win something.

It's not a matter of morality.

The question is sample: if you're the main shareholder of West Ham, do you prefer to receive 30 millions cash or do you want to keep a 29-year-old player whose future performances are not guaranteed?

Indeed more and more footballers seem to be employing the Tevez method to get out of contracts these days.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club.

The glorious irony, is that they could have cashed in last summer if they weren't talking such ludicrous figures.

Now they won't have any bargaining power at all.

L'equipe says that West Ham and Marseille met this weekend and that West Ham are willing to sell. Any info from the other side of the channel?

They've put in another derisory offer. It's this way, they want the player because they need a boost, them being pretty dire and all, lost 4-1 at home to Monaco last night, West Ham want 30+ million. Marseille don't have that sort of money and as is their want they're hoping that the player can cause enough of a festered situation to enable them to pay less.
Then again they're probably trying to fob Diarra off on West Ham in part exchange but he needs money to pay off his debt and won't go anywhere where he doesn't get shedloads.

We will see.

West Ham are getting a decent return but of course they should hold out for as much as Marseille can pay. He'll be an important star player for Marseille again and the new owner will want players like Payet back.

If he really justs wants to fo back to Marseille then West Ham should let him go.

It seems he simply never wanted to leave in the first place and isn't sort of mercenary some want to paint him as.

If Marseille want him then all they need do is bid what West Ham want for him.

I truly dislike West Ham but I 100% back the club over the player with this issue.

He seems like a right cnut. If I refused to work I'd get fired.

If your job was stopping you from taking another job you wanted, you wouldn't come in anymore, right?

West Ham are a joke club. And he isn't leaving for money. If anything, he probably joined West Ham for money in the first place.

If West Ham actually doubled his wage this summer then he was earning the same amount than he did at Marseille, 3.5m.

If the situations were reversed, the club's would do the same.

And clubs do tend to feck over players more than it happens the other way round.

They would get rid of him with our skipping a best if he had failed there. He's doing exactly the same.

West Ham can easily soon the media narrative to whatever they want and people will usually lap it up. But there is always usually more to stories like this.

See the Suarez-Liverpool saga to see how Liverpool basically avoided sticking to their word by using some silly clause.

My company didn't spend millions and millions of pounds to acquire me. If I'd signed a 5 year contract with a company and then decided too just not bother turning up I'd expect to get sued for breach of contract.

In those circumstances you negotiate your release, not just refuse to work.

West Ham are a bunch of cnuts, but in this instance I hope they don't cave in to his demands. Players like him are fecking rats.

But if money is your argument then West Ham can't complain because the last offer is far above anything they invested in him.

Considering that Ligue 1 salaries average far lower than the average premier league salary, I find it hard to believe. This is including PSG and Monaco to the total. Players come to England specifically for this reason. They can get big money outside of the top clubs Also it is being clearly stated he will take a pay cut. I see no reason to not believe it. He mentioned playing in the champions league yet Marseille will not qualify. They are where West Ham were last season. Most likely something personal

What is hard to believe? Gignac, Mandanda, Ayew and Payet were all paid around 3.5m. In 2014 Marseille had a wage bill of almost 100m.

I admit Math isn't my strong point but doesn't 3.5 million per year equate to 73k per month? I read it dropped from 4.2 million EUROS to 3 million Euros which is paltry over here. around 55k. Januzaj and Chabaloah earn that

I don't know what you are talking about. Payet is supposed to earn around 6m£ per year today and West Ham are supposed to have doubled his previous wage, which would mean that when he joined them he signed for around 3m£ while he was earning around 3m€ at Marseille.

West ham fecked up.. Should have sold after the EC this summer.. He will stink up the place of he will not be allowed to leave..

Not when they valued him at £50 million mate.

So, it's not about what they put in him like you suggested but how they want to exploit him while not respecting their promises to build a strong team. You are basically defending mercantilist liars.:D

 The whole situation is farcical. It couldn't have happened to a nicer club :D

A contract doesn't equate to the definition you gave, "a strong feeling of support or allegiance to something", you can't buy that. While Payet should respect his word and play for West Ham, West Ham can't think that you can buy loyalty, no one should think that.

There were reports that he was paid a loyalty bonus of 1M just a few months ago. Sounds like the very definition of 'buying loyalty'.

Once it's public knowledge that a player is unhappy and wants to leave, there should be no other option than to sell.
West Ham have only said he isn't for sale for negotiating purposes.

He will definitely leave this January.

Did anyone see what Harry said about his time as boss at westam?. Said he had a similar thing happen with a player at the time who'd only been there a year and didn't want to play for westam anymore, wanted to go to a 'bigger' club. Slavan Billic was the player.

I just looked at his career and see he was only at the Irons for a year. For some reason I thought he'd been there for ages. Funny how things turn out.

That's football. It's not like any other job.

The way I see it is, they made promises to him they could not keep. They were linked with Lacazette, Batshuyai, Chicharito, Tevez, etc... they got none of them.

If Payet was rubbish, they would have shown him the door straight away like they did with Zaza. So why is it wrong for him to do the same to them? He has no sentimental feelings towards the club. Marseille is his home and if West Ham are an honourable club, they will let him go.

It's funny to see their fans say "Good riddence" now. It was only about 3 weeks ago they were saying he was better than Zidane. Some football fans are fickle man...

Not really otherwise he wouldn't have asked to leave, by doing that he won't get the loyalty bonus which means that despite the clause they failed to buy his loyalty.

Can someone summarise to me what Marseille can offer him that West Ham can't?

apologies I miss read your point. Yes his wages at West Ham initially were very similar to Marseille with the potential for performance bonus. therefore he must've went to West Ham for different reasons other than money, and is returning to Marseille for reasons other than money.

I also agree with this sentiment. There is serious biased in relation to loyalty. Its just a business relationship
