Doesnt really sound like a mercenary to me. Hes on 125k at WHU too, which is a lot of money.

He simply comes across as some desperate to leave West Ham, and you cant blame him for that.
125k a week and still crying like a little [Excuse my French ;)]. Hopefully OM do not make UCL and this bites him in the butt, being paid 125k a week and refusing to play a game of footy on easy mode? Jesus Christ almighty, I hope his head is okay.

He's taken a pay cut to leave West Ham.

So it seems it was more about getting out of that club. I'm glad he got out.

Shocked no one came in and snapped him up for £25 mil, He'd get into almost any side in the world on his day.
Or he clearly wanted to return home to Marseille.

The only Top 6 sides he would get into (Tottenham, United, City, Arsenal) would probably be after someone younger anyway considering he turns 30 in a couple of months.

No it wasn't. It was about going back to OM, nothing else. Nothing to do with West Ham, or money, or CL, or else of this bullshit people are going on about

I have grown to hate west ham and their hooligan fans with passion, so yeah I am super happy about this.

Another footballer gets his way. I hope he has a miserable remaining career and life.

Weird sentiment.

Great to hear a player taking a pay cut to play & live in a place he really seems to love. Money isn't everything.

Refusing to play for a club that pays you handsomely is a disgrace! I'd understand if he had a year left on his contract and he grown tired of life in London, but he hadn't long signed a bumper new contract, the guys a spoilt brat like most other footballers.

I dislike West Ham fans as much as the next guy, but remember Heinze?

Meh, I like it, life's too short to be in a place where you're not happy, doesn't matter what career you have.

Refreshing he took a pay cut for that happiness. He never wanted to leave in the first place and until a few weeks back he had no idea that the chance to return was back on the table; everything changed for him once it was.

West Ham had a great season because of him & have made a fair ruck of money on his sale; his terrific Euros no doubt lead to some great endorsements for the club too.

I always try to separate the human from the football in these situations and I'm just happy for him, a player who obviously rates happiness above any paycheck.

I don't understand the vitriol aimed at him. He didn't want to leave in the first place, he is saying his family never settled in London, and he's taken a paycut to go back. The only ones who look a bit silly are Marseille, for paying more than double what they sold him for. West Ham look incredibly bitter. The reaction of their fans has been ridiculous.

I remember Di Maria getting similar snake comments on Twitter and whatnot, but not to the same degree. United fans didn't vandalise his car or post videos of fans spitting on his shirt (I missed it if they did). United certainly didn't have people legitimately connected to the club spouting vitriol about him.

That's because the majority of United fans aren't hooligans.

Anyway glad he is gone and West Ham lose out. Their PR campaign is laughable.
