Good goal but I don't know if it was worth 30 million pounds.

If you're being sarcastic, I applaud you.

If not, feck OFF!

Berbatov was awesome yet again tonight - he's scored 14 goals thus far this season and is top of the charts and on for the Golden Boot.

If it was Rooney or Ronaldo we'd be wanking - because it's the lad that took his time to make it at Old Trafford, he's got many cynics after his blood.

Aye, his flick to Gibson in the lead to the goal was fantastic, and his footwork to set himself up when he hit the post was just

It was magic tonight.

He's a strange old bean, because in the next game he'll probably look as though he's got the weight of the world on his shoulders and his confidence will have inexplicably taken a nosedive. I've never seen a United player's mood fluctuate quite so much. But when he's at it, he's a handful for any defender in the league. He's so elusive when he starts to dribble with the ball. I'm delighted that he's finally started to really look the real deal. I just hope that he can marry a fantastic personal season with big team honours, because that's the only way he'll down as an important United player.

'course I'm joking ;)

Chuffed that we have him, so close to fetching us a new three points today, and if he keeps it up he'll have been a key player in our reclaiming the Premiership.

The guy's bailed us out this season with his goals. He's finally stepped up and if only someone could chip in with the goals (Rooney) we'd be edging closer to 19. Who would have thought after 34 goals from Rooney and 12 from Berbatov last season the clocks would turn in such dramatic fashion.

Very good performance if the goal is not even taken into consideration. He kept linking up, making runs and creating openings for others. That shot on the post would have been some goal if it went in.
What a player

14 goals in 15 league games, that's simply brilliant. He now is the player we thought we signed two years ago, still with a magic touch, but a goalscorer too. If he keeps performing like this it will be interesting to see who starts upfront at White Hart Lane or away to Arsenal/Chelsea if Fergie indeed decides to go with 4-2-3-1 again. Would be harsh to leave him out yet again even though he carried us through large parts of this season so far...

One (impossible) thing I would love to learn from him is the way he keeps protecting the ball while running around the defenders. There are things you just sadly can't learn

It was like he just suddenly decided nobody else was going to win the game for us so he'd just go ahead and do it himself. Unfortunately we threw it away right at the end, but it's in physical matches like this where things aren't working that in previous times he'd drop his head and disappear from the match. Great to see him now stepping up and being the inspiration when we need him.

He's been very good with the exception of a dip in form inbetween. What is great to see is that he finally is making the runs, is getting into the right positions and is rather clinical infront of goal.

A year ago, who would have thought that the in form players would be Berbatov, Nani and Anderson :)

'Berbatov can't play up top on his own', 'Berbatov's movement is just so poor, especially into wide areas, he's just too static to play up there'.

Some people never learn...

His performance last night was superb. Tracked back a lot, intercepted so many passes, worked his socks off and scored a wonderful goal and hit the post once. Like a few above me have said, he was head and shoulders above quite a few of the players last night.

When I'm watching him I often think that ability of his must be very annoying for defenders. He keeps turning so that his back is to them at all times and they just can't seem to get round him.

Was a very sexy goal last night, the finish is a real top class striker, and his flick to start the move off was magnificent. I wish he'd shown more of this over the course of his time here, but feck it seems to be coming together now for whatever reason!

It's very annoying. There's a guy I play against each week, he has a similar style to Berba. You can't imagine I wanna break him into pieces when I can't retrieve the ball off him.

I think twice he got gobsmacked with the way he beautifully flicked the ball over the opposing CB last night. One of the flicks was fecking hard as the ball was in the air and coming at a high speed.Fantastic technique

Never learn what?

Not to draw conclusions on where players can or can't play on the basis of such a small amount of games, that formations and tactics aren't that rigid and can be moulded to bring players into them, or to simply be a bit less knee-jerk.

I said last year that the majority of the caf thought Rooney couldn't play as a lone striker, even just at the beginning of last season, only for him to prove them all wrong by January time. Yet, bizarrely, it then started up with Berbatov just a few weeks later - "Berbatov just can't play up top on his own, it's not in his game". He's beginning to suggest otherwise.

Pinning players down to certain roles or trying to fit them into a really specific set of tactics creates a completely false conclusion. There's always this need for people to be definitive in their opinions, and people jumped at the chance to say Berbatov can't play as a lone striker, but can't people just wait for him to get an extended run of games there, and allow the players to understand how he interprets the role, before deciding what he can or can't do.

Excellent post that.

Brwned has been raping the footy forums for quite some time now

On another note our counter attack wasn't affected in the slightest with Berba upfront, why don't we start him there in big games and push Wayne out wide?

He's too good to leave out

That is exactly what I expect to see in the "big" matches this season.
There's no way Berba should/would be left out

Our best player of the season, he will probably be the reason why we win 19.

It wasn't the right sort of game for him today although he did try hard; he tracked back on many occasions too, a feature that is beginning to increase in his overall game. We needed an injection of pace alongside Rooney when we were breaking and more often than not he was caught a bit deep and unable to affect the attack in a meaningful way. He tried some things that came off, and some that didn't - he looked a little fatigued as well, so here's hoping he can get back on the scoring trail after a few days rest against Stoke; I'm pretty sure he'll start one way or another.

Well, Nani and Vidic have been as good, but he's certainly up at the top. Let's hope he can keep it consistent, he'll be very important in the league because he's not likely to get much game time in the CL, if Rooney is fit.

Actually, Smalling is our player of the season across all competitions according to my highly rated scientific Caf MOTM stats...

But Berbatov is the player that has put in most MOTM performances so far this season.

I reckon he'll age like fine wine... he's not exactly wearing all his joints out with his running :)

This is good news. As far as I know, players who are 30 or over and he will be this month, usually get offerred a one year extension. It will be interesting to see if he gets the option to sign a longer extension for a lower wage.

Lots of speculation on Twitter it's a three-year contract extension worth £120,000 a week.
