Dimitar Berbatov | 2010/11 Performances

You'd mostly expect a £30 million player to do it week after week, rather than a great streak, followed by a poor streak, followed by a great streak. Or lots of goals, no goals, then lots of goals. Thats what you'd like to be buying for this kind of money, a consistant performer you can rely on.

No doubt that we can pick out singular matches this season, or groups of a few games at a time, where he looked a big money player. But rather than a couple of games on the bounce, we should be hoping for half a season or a full one.
We're just about halfway into the season, and bar the odd game, he's put in some very good performances. He didn't score for 8 or 10 games or something like that, but he still played well for the vast majority of them.

Eugh, give it a rest, there's only about 2 or 3 attacking players in the world who play consitently well week after week. None are at United.

his best season so far, it's refreshing that he's so reliable!

and remember the criticsm he got last season when he didn't step up when Rooney was injured?

Well now he's showing great form while Rooney finds himself, he's become an integral part of our team. Keep it up the good work Berba! What a season we're having!

Agree with this, delighted with Berba this season and he seems to have lightened up these past few games too which is great to see.

Not just the goals but the confirmation is in his body language. Can you imagine his relaxed demeanor that he enjoyed with Fergie in the stands after he was subbed today, a year ago? the guy has loosened up and is relaxed and enjoying his football. Great to see and should bring it's own rewards. Even Ando is looking the part - imagine this 12 months back

:D

My favourite thing about that moment was his desire and willingness to win the ball back after being scythed down. He has so much more confidence now. Looks like he has a bit of pace to use too.

That extra fitness training he did in the summer seems to really have paid dividends.

Confidence striker - like Rooney - when he has it, he's unplayable, but once his confidence drops, he can perform very badly.

At least being dropped v Arsenal didn't harm his form.

SAF has set Berbatov a 25 goal target for this season.

He's got 14 right now, so I think that's a fair enough ask.

Ready to admit you were wrong about Berbatov, VW?

You were always so glad to tell everyone how you never thought he was that good, and never wanted us to sign him...

I was listening to some guy on the stream sprouting bollocks about Berbatov's form..."well he's become good because he's started to work harder and start caring." Nonsense.

I don't think Berba is playing much better than he was last season, just that he's playing with a lot more confidence. He's having luck this season when last season he didn't in front of goal and instead of his head going down and him not looking like scoring, he smiles and just thinks "next time."

Remember last season the 4-3 Derby at home and he had a couple headers saved by Given and people said terrible headers, right at the keeper but, one of them was a rather good save. Yesterday's opener - somewhat at Gordon but, it still went in off his leg. Maybe last season that gets saved and the knives come out for Berba because it was "at the keeper and he can't head to save his life".

A bit of luck goes a long way - he definitely seems to get a spring in his step when he scores early as well. Often times when it isn't going his way, like many other top players, he lets his competitive nature frustrate him - which then lends ammo again against him.

i still never wished we signed him, don't think he's a 30 million quid player and never will be (considering he turns 30 next month). he's in a very rich vein of form and since our other striker is horrifically poor in front of goal right now, he's proving to be invaluable in this current stretch. also after going through the contract debacle with rooney, he's a bit easier to stomach.

Fair fecks to him, he's done well in the league and he seems not be affected when he gets dropped for 'big matches' like tevez so its worth it. I'd give him a two year extension in the summer.

I really wish people would stop judging him on his price tag.

Alright, he wasn't worth £30 million. Spurs went for all the money they could get and ripped us off, it was always going to happen. They did it with Carrick as well. But that's not Berbatov's fault. We bought him, he's here, and now he's playing very well.

Why can't we just judge him on his form now, and forget about his price tag, which was nothing to do with him? He's playing excellently and is the top scorer in the league. Rooney hasn't scored an open goal since March so Berbatov is really scoring the goals to keep us winning games; he's incredibly important to our team at the moment.

Most players are sold for far more than they're worth these days, it's the way it goes with clubs wanting as much money as they can get from clubs. We're always going to get ripped off for players.

Also, being 30 doesn't really matter that much for players these days. Modern footballers at the top are able to train to prolong their careers. Drogba and Lampard are both 32, Terry and Cole are 30 now as well. 30 really isn't that old for a footballer anymore.

Damn, a year ago it looked like Berba (and Nani himself) could be off if they didn't buck their ideas up.

Now in the present day, isn't it funny (and ironic) that both have become such an important part in our first team? These two guys, especially Berbatov, can really fire us to this title folks.

Who cares what Berbatov cost? It wasn't the man's fault we paid £30m for him. The main thing is now he's having his best season for us, he's driving us on and scoring us goals. Let's hope the feck he continues this, because if he does, then everybody (including the continous sceptics) will be labelling him a hero if he's instrumental in winning the title back for us.

I really hope he gets more chances in the big games this year especially in Europe, forget all that nonsense about 442 being dead, if Rooney and Berbatov are on their game playing up top together we'd have enough to out-gun anyone in Europe.

so do I - it's as though people think he said " If you don't pay £30 million for me, I'm not signing :p "

If he wasnt comfortable being a £30 million player he wouldnt have signed the contract. He took on the challenge.

In today's game there are ways a player could make sure he wouldnt be anywhere near as expensive when he moves on. Bertbatov could have waited and run down his contract a bit like many others have. But he chose to go to United as soon as Spurs were willing to talk

Not to mention Anderson too! It was actually good to see Anderson shoot against Sunderland. I think he had like three shots on target and some of his passes were exquisite.

 That's a new one.

Players should now do everything in their power to make their price tag as realistic as possible.

Btw that new thing you bought the other day was crap value for money. Just not worth it at all.

Is there a point in there?
