Dimitar Berbatov | 2010/11 Performances

Great he's finally proving all his doubters (including myself) wrong. His performances pre-season were encouraging, but I think it was his goal against Chelsea which gave him the belief that this could be his year.

The thing I have noticed about his game this year as opposed to previous seasons is his willingness to run behind the defence, and also to pass and move. Before, he would drop too deep or would make a pass and just stand there. But now he makes runs behind the defence (as well as dropping deep) and when he makes a pass, he looks to run into spaces or into the box to get on the end of it. And also, it helps a great deal his goals are now winning games, and his goals are coming against the bigger/tougher opponents.

The CL games will be interesting, whether SAF reverts back to a 4-4-2 or goes with the trusted 4-5-1 knowing Rooney dislikes the wide-left role. But it's a headache I'm sure he's glad to have.

Looking at the group we have, I think we can play a 4-4-2 and do well. Its the later stages that Fergi might have to revert to the 4-5-1 formation.

Scoring three against Liverpool - winning us the game - will go a long way towards acceptance and tolerance. If he has a bad game now, it won't (or it shouldn't) lead to the scapegoat threads.

He's got himself into credit. :)

yep - he looks up for it this season. my criticism was about his lack of emotion. he looks a different player.

He's proven something today. 3 goals in a big match. Not just that but his all round play was great too, which wasnt usually the case in big matches either.

His only other goal in a big game before today in a United shirt was the final goal when we mauled Chelsea just after Avram Grant took over when we were already in the driver seat. His record in these big matches overall was poor.

But with those 3 goals it makes his record much better. And more than that, he put it all together today and played as well as he ever has in the premier league. Not just at United but at Spurs too. This is what people thought we were buying when we signed him. The player from today who scored many goals, one with a real touch of technical genius and a player who made the difference in a big game.

What his performance did today was make sure he's on the team sheet the next time we play a big match. And the one after that.

rooney needs to earn his spot
if its a 4-5-1 , then rooney either plays on the left with a forced smile on his face or sits on the bench .. berba is clearly in better form at the moment

Well said, Ekeke.

That was the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life

Yep I've been another who's been disappointed and even slagged off Berbatov at times but he's doing brilliant this season. You could even say he's stepped up to that Ronaldo or Rooney type of player in being the focal point of the team, especially whilst Rooney is having his demons etc.

Goals against Liverpool as well are worth double IMO.

He'll have to keep his scoring ratio up over the course of a full season before he's a Rooney or Ronaldo. But you never know, hopefully he will.

I had a feeling this would be his year and I'm just so glad he has come out and proved it.

Come on LAD!

You can bang in 20-25 goals this season and prove all the doubters wrong.

He was brilliant today and has looked like he has had a new lease of life.

I don't know whether its linked but I have been told that he went to see Steve Bollen to sort out his knee and it does seem he is more happy in his play?

And that was the biggest problem.

I hope he's really encouraged by his performance, and the fans' reaction.

Yes.

If someone doubted that he'd do the business for 2 seasons, they'd be right. If they doubted he was the best partner for Rooney, they'd be right still to this day because we still havent seen a particularly good partnership from the two of them.

If they doubted he'd ever be able to do it individually for United, they'd be wrong.

Just to pick you up there, the goal you're thinking of was against Chelsea when Big Phil was in his final days as manager. Grant took over over a year before that, when Berba was still at Spurs.

I'm no Berbatov lover, and whilst this hat-trick goes a long way to bringing me around. He's no Norman Whiteside, but he joins Norman, Robbo, Eric, Strachan and quite a few others today by offically becoming a Scouse Buster....

You all know, he won't keep scoring like this all the time, right?
I just hope no one questions the man ever again. He's here to stay and be one of United's great

Top scorer in the league.

It's entirely possible Drogba will get a hatrick at home to Blackpool though.

From a technical standpoint this was the greatest and most spectaculat goal scored in a United vs. Liverpool game I have ever seen.

I got a notification for this three times. :)

I've said it before in one of these Berbatov discussions, he just looks that bit leaner this season, if there were any excess pounds, he appears to have worked hard over the off-season and got rid of them

And I think he's benefitting from that, as he certainly appears to also be putting in more of a shift

With fitness come's selfconfidence and now we see a man who enjoy playing at the Theatre of Dreams. Three big different factors from the last two seasons.

Indeed. Really good to see him get the reception he did, and despite managing to hide it until he sat down there was a quick shot a massive grin on his face. Great to see.

Don't know if it was the break, or the off season surgery(rehab he had on his knee/ankle). But he is a completely different player, looking to shoot a lot more, obviously he isn't super quick, but he doesn't look quite as sluggish as he did at times last season.

You just get the feeling even if he goes through a lean spell this season, his head won't drop, he has his self belief back.

If only Wazza would show up now, it would be nice to see them both in top form, we've never quite seen that.

My goodness, who can I bash now? Berba is scoring three goals in a game for us now? The feck. I need someone to bash. Please provide.
