i dont know if its been discussed at all, but he tends to drop deep a bit much.

Sheringham was miles ahead of Bebratov.
He wasn't. His first season here was utterly shit by his standards. Yet he arrived on a free to be a Cantona's squad replacement. Yet was roundly condemned for not being Cantona

& in his second season he was 3rd choice forward when we won the treble. Eventually graduating to second choice in his 3rd year.

If anything Berbatov is following the same path as him. The only difference being in Berbatov's second season we are no where near as strong as we were in Sheringham's second yeah. & in his first he was way to over priced when he arrived.

back then, in 2008, how much would you have paid for him?

in a perfect world that is
I'd never have paid over 25 m for him. He is a 22m (lower end price) -25 m(highest end price) pound player. That is what he was at Spurs. That is what we would have bought him for if City hadn't got in to the mix. & if we'd bought him for 23m this thread wouldn't exist.

He will never live up to it to be fair. Because he has never been a 30 m pound player.

So you keep saying.

If we had a £ for every time you've said it, we'd be able to buy...ooh, Berbatov.

You;re not actually doing the player any favours by doing so. Most people won't want telling that a player we payed £30m for isn't actually worth it.

Im talking about quality, not competition Teddy had to face. Ole, Andy, York were all great strikers so be playing second field to any of them doesn't really say much Chief.

Try Kobe...corned beef will start tasting like dogshite.

That's the problem with united fans. We've just gotten used to Kobe, and now that we've paid premium prices and received a fairly underwhelming experience. We're itching to have a go.

Not Berba's fault. But fact is, he's just never going to live up to the billing.
Well put. As I said earlier, we bought a CRT type tv on a black market at Plama TV cost. So we shouldn't be complaining that it doesn't function like a Plasma TV. Since it never was one in the first place!

IIRC 22 mil was the asking price for him. SAF refused to pay though. Bargining or SAF didn't consider Bebratv to be 22 mil player?

either way i don't think Bebrbatov's only problem is his price tag. I think style/ attitude also play their role.

so you're saying that he was a medicore player with a massive price tag. what was the reason for signing a medicore players then?

if we'd bought him for 23m this thread wouldn't exist.

I disagree, this thread exists because we decided against signing Tevez for 25m after his first season, instead we spent the money on Dimi. Until Dimitar prooves to people that he was the better option this thread will run and run.

Tevez's form for shitty only adds fuel to the fire but even whilst he was here he had an uncanny nack of scoring massive goals (Wigan away last season for example). When we see Berba look not even remotely like scoring against Blackburn away we are reminded again of that choice the club took.

As I said earlier in the thread, if Tevez never played for United this thread would not exist. There would be other threads of course because some people could never accept his languid style, but the threads wouldn't be anything like this one.

So you keep saying
Because it's the truth, Livvie. We never bought a 30m pound player. We only over paid for him so that we could have him in our squad. To strengthen and ad variety to our attacking options. Even at his best at Spurs you can't tell me you believed he was worth 30m at any point. So why complain that he isn't one now?

If we had a £ for every time you've said it, we'd be able to buy...ooh, Berbatov.

Well that's their own problem then. Because that means that they can't handle the truth. We paid inflated fees to get Berbatov and it wasn't his fault. He is not like a Veron who was worth the fee but didn't live up to it.

Still on my first coffee for the day, I will try and liven things up with some stats a bit later.

Jak tam w Warszawie?

yeah, same here just finished my first for the day

how come you speak Polish mate?

it's good, i've been here for 4 months so I cannot say i know city or many people but you no, getting there hopefuly it will feel like home soon.

It say's all there needs to be said. Sheringham wasn't first choice till Yorke waned. So I can't see how anyone can claim he was better than Berbatov. When he basically had the same role Berbatov has in our team. Playing second fiddle to great strikers(Cole, Yorke) while being ahead of others (Ole) . & just like Berbatov struggled in his first 2 years because he had to live up to what can't be lived up to.

Exactly. Good post this.

I lived there for 4 years and I still travel to Poland a couple of times a month. A lot of friends there!

Poland today eh? we need a map to pinpoint where you are each day you jet setter.

23 m pound players are not mediocre. Look at Tevez. Loot at the likes of Milito,. That is the class of player he is in. He proved it at Spurs.

& he was bought to improve our squad striker options and variety upfront. Not to be our star player. The sooner people get that through their heads the better.

Right now most of his critics are no different from the fans who hated Sheringham for not being able to be just like Cantona the year he first arrived.

Why the focus on the price tag all the time.

The focus should be on his lack of effort first, the price tag is important, but secondary to his attitude, which is what, need I remind all again, especially Rubber man, which is what most supporters who are unhappy with him have an issue with.

next time in Warsaw let me no mate, a pint won't hurt right?

Great idea! I will definitely pm you when I know the exact dates. Some very pretty ladies in Warsaw... You need to find the time to explore.

Forgot this is a Berbatov thread. Dimitar's girlfriend is pretty decent looking from what I have seen but I hear she has a languid style.

Top o' the morning to you Gambs! You disappeared for a couple of days, what's up? Any news?

In case you are wondering, we have been discussing Berbatov. Just thought I'd let you know and gently ease you into the debate.

Berbatov eh? the player that we use as a lone striker when he should always have a forward partner. Whose confidence has gone. Whose hairline is receding at a pace we wish he could play at? Always liked him.

That's the one. Me too, always liked him, still do, a good footballer but shows a lack of effort. I wonder why we paid 30.75m for him?

Simple but brilliant. I wonder why I never thought of this!

I think that we have managed to take this discussion to a whole new level. Could explain the lack of recent activity here....

Well I'm glad we sorted that one out.

Which is utter bullshit. People like you hate him because he isnt physically like Tevez or Rooney and cost 30 m. All the other things are just excuses for you to hide your real motives. Which is you want him to live up to what he will NEVER be.
