Television Dexter

I always feel that young kids in TV shows are a major problem.

They are boring because at a very young age they have 0 character development and are just very one dimensional nom and fart machines, they often age too fast to fit the story timeline and generally are incapable of contributing anything that will advance the story line of a TV show.

Maybe it's even possible to have interesting kid characters in a non comedy TV show but so far I haven't seen anyone pull it off successfully.

On second thought, maybe Aria from Game of Thrones is one of the more interesting kid characters in a serious TV show but she is getting into an age where I feel kids can become interesting characters that contribute more to a show then just look cute.

Once they reach a stage where they start to develop their own character and form an opinion for themselves, through their life experiences they start to become more interesting again but until that age I feel it's better to avoid them as much as possible.

Wasn't Dexter supposed to have loved Rita? So the line at the start where he's lay there with Hannah and says 'is this what falling in love feels like?' was just ridiculous. I'm starting to think Cina was right when he said the new writers don't actually remember what happened in earlier seasons.

Thing is they mentioned Lumen, Rita and Lila in the same episode.

I'm not sure if he loved her. I think he thought she was good cover. He was fond of Rita and her kids but at the time probably felt he was incapable of love.

Despite all the criticism Season 3 got, it's far better than these last 3 seasons have been.

That's because although the plot in season three was weak and farfetched, the writing was still excellent.

It's really only since the original writers left that the overall quality of the show has gone to shit. Some of the dialogue wouldn't look out of place in a day time soap.

How is people opinions here about which season was best?

For me it was the first one, with the last episode being one of the most emotional episodes I have ever seen in a TV Show.

Season four is one of the greatest seasons of television ever, largely because of Jon Lithgow. It's amazing how far the show has fallen since then.

Possible spoilers from screencaps I saw.

Looks like all of the kids will be in the next episode.

I'm not sure how much of an explanation you all want for Harrison's disappearance. It was clearly explained in the episode that he'd be going to the grandparents for a couple of weeks. The last few episodes have probably gone on for a time span that is about that long so it fits. The only problem on their end was not trying to write Harrison out for a while at the very beginning of the series, but they sorted it out in the end.

Yeah, they got rid of Harrison with a decent enough explanation, and it's a good thing they have. We've already seen the effect he has on Dexter's extra curricular activities in the past, we've seen him being involved and at risk last season. Fine, let's move on. He's not really interesting.

You're in for such a treat with season 4, Revan. :D I may well go and watch that again at some point.

I loved seasons 1 and 4, and I though 3 was pretty good as well despite all the criticism its received. 2 was my least favorite, mainly because I found that Lydia character unbearable.

Ive been considering watching the latter seasons.. but everyone says its gone down hill so Ive kept away. Is there anyone who think the seasons after 4 are still worth watching?

I do but I usually watch shows to the end whether they go downhill or not. If you do watch the latter seasons just try to avoid forums and threads where Dexter is discussed as there's a lot of criticism and nitpicking about things which you might not notice yourself when watching the episodes.

Where abouts are you up to now, WR?

Season 5, episode 3.

Really enjoying it. Season 4 was brilliant. Although I've read this past page through squinted eyes incase I come across a spoiler but judging from the comments it goes downhill from here. Disappointing really, but I'll watch on regardless.

Finished the fourth season. Great season with a controversial ending. I didn't liked Rita that much, but neither I wanted her dead. Dex should have made Trinity to suffer more and don't know why Trinity didn't tell him about Rita.

At the middle of sixth season and it's still good. The only downside is that they are talking much about religion. Oh Dexter doesn't believe in God, feck how this can be possible. It's not that he is the only atheist in the world.

Hated. Hated. Hated the religious aspect of Season 6. Horrible storyline.

Hated. Hated. Hated the religious aspect of Season 6. Horrible storyline.

To me actually the main story, about lunatic commander Adama wanting to end the world is not the main problem. The ridiculous statements of how Dexter doesn't believe in nothing is making me sad. It's like a theology lecture.

So... newest ep of season 7. Dex and Isaac's scenes are the best thing at the moment, with all the 'we could be great friends but too bad you're a serial killer and killed my boyfriend'.

The kids.... useless and boring as usual. Thrown in just to give Dexter a bit of a headache, but it just gives me a headache.

Anyways, a kinda average ep in my books, nothing shocking happened. Just a small progression in the three main storylines (Laguertas investigation, Isaac, and Hannah). Promo for next week looked good though. I'm hoping that the writers don't pussy out of Laguerta finding out the truth about Dexter. Since next season is the final one they can pretty much go as mental as they want, having the whole of Miami after Dexter might be a bit too mental though...

The way things are going with LaGuerta (Stuff in spoilers are my own thoughts - not taken from any interview or whatever)
I'll be surprised if she doesn't find out the truth before the end of the season. If she finds out the truth in the second to last episode then the season finale could be very interesting.

The scene with Dexter and Deb was awkward but had to be done and I felt they handled it as well as they could do - and now she knows about Hannah, things are set up nicely. With there being 4 episodes left I'm not sure how they'll manage to fit everything in without it seeming rushed unless they carry some of the themes into next season.

The kids are just more annoying than they were before.

Isaak is one of my favourite villains and the promo for next week does look good.

The LaGuerta stuff is moving at a snail's pace. She could have done what she's done so far in a matter of days. They're obviously saving it for later; it's their last remaining trump card.

It's building up quite nicely and I'm warming to Isaak but there is still a nagging feeling of "how are they going to ruin this" in my mind whenever I watch it now.

The fact there are so many dynamics running side by side and now they all pretty much know about each other means there is quite a few possibilities of where the rest of the season can go.

Boring episode. Too many emotional conversations, not enough kills. The kids returning was pointless.

Isaac has gone from being boring to now being the most interesting character on the show.

Issac was never boring. Better than trinity for me now, if they end the arc as well as they did with trinity, he will be the best ever Dexter villain. If anything the Hannah stuff is a chore.

Thought that was a pretty good episode. Isaak was quality. I'm liking him more and more as the episodes go by. That scene with the police in his apartment with the body

Why Dex's brother (Bryan/Rudy) is eating things in season 6? It's really pointless, he is imaginary after all.
