Television Dexter

Hey feck you Sol, you all laughed at me when I said in season five that the show was crawling down the drain, and then came back apologizing like little bitches after when you finally realized in season 6 how shit it had become.

Well not really, but still, I'd like to think so.

Anyway, I got this tagline because of this fecking show, despite the fact that I like most shows discussed on this forum, therefore I have the right to dismiss it :D

With the reveal at the end of the season the show could get better, but the main problem last season was the actual writing, it was rubbish, the dialogue was a joke, that's why I hold little hope.

We're pretty much in sync although I fancy myself as a 'glass as half full' sorta person in general. But the reveal at the end of last season gave me a glimmer that perhaps there's material to work with for something interesting going forward.

Otherwise, it's natural that the story was going to dry up, writing change or not, I think

We'll see but the Bay Harbor butcher, Doakes and Miguel Prado seasons are really epic - tough to top

How can you list all of them and not Season 4 (Trinity), it's one of the finest seasons of television ever made (and was the last one the original writers were a part of).

I liked Trinity and had been a big fan of Lithgow long before his role but I don't think I ever quite got over the high of those 3 storylines. Trinity was a good one but I preferred the other 3 characters

Blasphemy!

It would be quite a feat if it got worse.

After giving up on this show after season 5 we just decided to give it another go and watched season 6.

Wow, that was criminally bad. Terrible villain, loads of plot holes, Deb falling for Dexter - what the shitting feck?! Oh and that roadtrip episode where his brother came back was just horrendous, practically every single part of it was out of character and just shit. The story with Matthews and the hooker was pointless and shit too. God the whole thing was just awful.

Then they finally have Deb find out and I want to see what happens. The bastards.

Mind using the spoilers?

I'm on season 1 and things are going just swell but I have a passionate hatred for the opening credits. They're atrocious!

I'm racing my way through these but I thought I'd stop by for a moan. I am getting mighty sick of Dexter and his imaginary Dad having the same conversation at least twice an episode.

I'm getting sick of him mentioning he "Dark Passenger" every poxy episode. feck off, we know!!

I am seriously considering start watching this.

Is it good?

Yes. Seasons 5 and 6 are abit shit, but its still worth watching. The first 4 seasons are amongst the best TV I've seen - not up there with the likes of The Wire and Breaking Bad, but probably in the next tier below.

Totally forgot about this, goes to show the excitment the it initially created after season 4 is well and truely gone.

It's devastating how much 'meh' I feel in regards to this new series. With the last one, there was some hope at least that it would turn round, particularly after the first episode which was absolutely quality. The worst series and the worst episode in the whole of Dexter later, and I've basically no expectations of this now. I'll still watch it obviously for the quality of Dexter himself and the humour of his character, but I'd be shocked if they didn't feck up the whole thing even further from here on in.

Yeah I think once it starts sliding it's hard to ever go back to how it was. We'll see though.

I don't know how the season will be, but they've certainly set it up nicely for episode 1. Start here and we'll take it from that. I'm actually quite excited.

It should've been so wonderfully woven how Dexter was caught. After 6 seasons, the best thing they could come up with is Deborah randomly walking in on him?

How about...feck all that shite about her falling in love with him, replace it with a carefully crafted investigation that isn't immediately obvious to the viewer, forge some sort of connection between Brother Sam and the main villain, and you've got double the quality of season there already. It shoud've been so fecking dramatic, and we should've been led to believe right until the last moment that Dexter would prevail as usual, only to be pummelled with incredible levels of shock when Deborah's plan comes together. All the work he did helping his own sister throughout the show... it becomes his own undoing.

It should've been the most tense and well thought out thing in the whole series - it's infuriating!

Meh I need something to watch now that Breaking Bad's finished.

I still find this show really entertaining, if the writing has taken a massive nosedive in recent seasons. I'm still a big fan of Michael Hall.

I'm fully caught up now just in time for the new series. Don't really have much to add, seasons 1-4 were pretty great, 5 and 6 meh at best. Though I think a lot of it comes down to the antagonist of each; the last two seasons had weak ones so the rest of the shows flaws were more obvious. Because the interaction between Doakes and Dexter was so good we put up with fecking Lyla and all that addiction shite, because Trinity was brilliant we didn't really care that the LaGuerta-Angel storyline was boring as feck. Whereas because Travis and all the religious waffle was just plain annoying, we look to other storylines, and what we get is incestuous desires and, I dunno, Quin fecking about?

New 2 min trailer out, obvious spoiler warning etc

Speculation on the spoilers in the vid:
That wasn't looking too bad until 15 seconds from the end. It's going to be painful if they go down the 'Will Dexter kill Deb?' route. Of course he spudging won't.

Well I enjoyed a Dexter episode after a very long time.

The side story with the Ukrainians might get bit boring as the season progresses but it was good that the episode was only about Deb finding out stuff. And now that she knows he's killed many times, it should make for an interesting season!

I liked it
I was questioning how Debra was just believing everything was saying at the beginning, but it's good they kept her investigating. I'm glad she knows the full truth now, but it still feels a season and episode too late

Poor Mike, getting murdered is the only way he can get me to learn his name.

Glad Deb knows everything now, or is about to, I was worried we'd have half a season of her tiny brain failing to connect the dots.

Edit: we don't need spoiler tags, do we? :nervous:

Do we know when the season 7 willing airing in the UK? Checked FX UK which is what the previous seasons were on but can't see anything.

I want to see it too!

Bit unsure with the spoiler policy, so please tell me if I'm doing it wrong. I understand that what has been shown already doesn't need to be put in spoilers, but what about speculation on future episodes if it's your own theories/thoughts only based on what has been shown (no previews etc.)?

Great episode. Have to admit that the fly-thing fooled me initially, although it didn't take me long before I figured something else was going on.

The babysitter's boyfriend certainly knows something. Will be interesting to see what that something is and how he'll use it - Dexter certainly made him pissed now, so there's no doubt the boyfriend won't make it easy for him.

The forgotten blood sample also looks like a very interesting story line, especially now LaGuerta took it. She never believed that Doakes was the killer.

I think it could be a decent side story really as it opens up for a lot of possibilities. They'll no doubt go looking for their missing man, and like Dexter they don't need to go through the proper channels to investigate. Dexter didn't exactly hide his face in the airport, so it's quite possible they'll connect the dots eventually.

I liked it

Yeah, it actually made a lot of sense the way they did it all. I think we all know situations where you feel like you've asked insufficient and/or poor questions initially and wanted some clarification later on. Much improved writing compared to last two seasons really.
