Television Dexter

Ok

Nobody can deny it was a weak season compared to the others. I think they bottled having Deb find out last season and have now tried to right it. I think it was the only way the show could go without getting stale. Somebody needed to find out his secret who he can't kill or silence. It will be interesting to see where that goes now. I think Hanks was quite drab, I could never take him seriously really. I completely forgot Mos Def was even in it too.

The bit where they were all outside waiting for Dexter was fecking ridiculous. I love the show but that is schoolboy writing. Like somebody said earlier, they have no problem going in without him every other time. Suddenly when his face is on the wall they decide to wait outside for him and let him go in first. Weak. They could have come up with so many better explanations for him going in first. You could tell Deb was going to find him killing Travis as soon as she asked him to go to the church but I still felt quite tense waiting for it to happen.

With that said, I'm looking forward to Season 7. I myself am going to give the writers a chance and trust they'll do much better, after all they've given us the first few incredible seasons. There's much to be optimistic about and for them to work with. The intern is interesting, what does he know, why does he know it? Quinn should hopefully be transferred. Anderson should have a bigger role, he's a good character. The Deb, Dexter thing obviously (hopefully without the incest), Batista's sister was a good addition, etc... So they have all the elements of a good season. They need a good villain, a good actor who we believe can be fecked up and with a decent backstory. Not weedy Colin Hanks

Except for the fact that none of the original writers are actually involved in the show anymore you mean?

It was a shambles of a finale, I didn't really think this season could be much worse than 5 but it was absolutely appalling. Genuinely one of the most stupid finales to a season I've seen in a long times. So many pointless scenes, crazy plotholes and ridiculous storylines, riddled with some of the shittest characters known to mankind.

The end is basically what the end of season 5 should've been, which actually could've led to this season being good, so I guess that means next season could be good, only for the fact that they've added a stupid piece of shit of an incest story into the equation now.

Wish I could have those 12 hours of my life back.

Never watched Dexter, other than some episodes on TV. Should I watch it from season 1?

Or will it be a waste of my time?

First 4 seasons are pretty great. The last 2 are a bit meh, but still ok.

Anderson should have a bigger role, he's a good character.
I've seen this said before in this thread, I think. But why? What's good about him? His only positive is that he's not shit. He's bland!
Debra discovering Dexter makes the next season interesting, Debra being in love with Dexter is stupid and the entire season has been terrible. I'll watch the next one too, though, cause I enjoyed the previous seasons.
Another thing I've noticed, although I might be wrong:
Has anyone else noticed how almost all episodes this season ended on a cliffhanger? I don't remember that being the case in previous seasons, at least not in the same degree. Probably an admission from the writers that the plot was took weak to keep the majority interested, so they had to make people watch next week's episode some other way. Not that I mind it really, just an observation.
True, and I mind it.

Problem cinc?

I think this show is getting better and better each and every season. It started out sloppy with plenty of holes in the story, but they've seem to have really gotten their act straight now. Do you agree, cina? I would really like to hear your thoughts on this subject

Well where to start, the whole thing was so riveting.

Colin hanks was such a great villain, he really just took such a different approach to the normal. he was so lackluster and unconvincing that I really thought the writers were so clever, taking this unconventional approach. Why do villians have to be villains, why can't they be complete pussies with no facial expressions instead? And his twist was superb, I loved how insanely obvious it was, because I completely obliterated the thought of it happening in my mind due to that. Genius from the writers.

Sure there were oodles of plot holes, but I loved them, how could you not? It was like Lost, only in a different way, "what plot holes will we find this week?", you never see them coming, and when you do they're a total mindfeck, like, how is this actually possible? Brilliant stuff.

Let's not forget the characters and their wonderful progression, La Guerta being a cnut, Quinn being stupid, inanimate black guy, Deb doing very little other than curse and whine, Angel trying to be Spanish, Harry being ... invisible, Dexter being Dexter.

Great television from start to finish.

That's how.

Quinn is and idiot. I really dislike Debra. She always sounds like she's about to burst into tears and every other episode she does. How the therapist can claim she's fit for the job is beyond me. She's always losing it but like always other people do her work for her and she gets away with it.

The last episode
Dexter is with his sister when he gets the call about the double murders. He's even dressing but somehow he's the first on the scene and has no problem ripping up the portrait of himself?
How he never got caught and then how he finally got caught I think was shit writing.

For me the 5th and 6th season the show went massively down hill.

No idea what you're on about. If anything the show got even better in season 5 and 6. Hanks was an even better bad guy than Trinity.

Just finished getting caught up. The plot holes, oh my. The main show runner left after season 4 and its obvious the guys in charge aren't of the same standard.

Its clear that the producers are running the show now and are happy to make a bland product that is living off of its past glory
I just started watching season 1 again and it blows my mind how far the quality has dropped in seasons 5 and 6

You're talking drama shows strictly aren't you?

I haven't gotten that far in Six Feet Under. Almost finished with the 2nd season.

Breaking Bad has so far been 4 seasons. Can't see the quality dropping much in the 5th. At least I hope not.

Can't compare stuff on NBC to stuff on HBO. HBO blows it out of the water.

Just started to watch this over the past week or so. Gone through seasons 1 - 3 and I have to say, it's feckin well addictive. I'm really enjoying it. I finished season 3 last night which involved staying up until 04:30. I just couldn't put it down. I had band practise today at 13:00 and so I figured I could sleep in until 12:30.

Never happened. 07:30 in the morning the builders (who are usually quiet) decided to bring in the hardcore hammer drills and work on an area of next door that is right next to the head of my bed :(

I'm fecking knackered but really looking forward to season 4

Coincidental timing of the bump Kinks, was just coming here myself to let people know that season 7 starts September 30th.

I'm just after finishing season 6, and whilst I don't think it was as good as the earlier seasons, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I still think it was fantastic. The ending was predictible but it's about time she found out. I hope he doesn't start riding her now, that'd be kind of sick. Anyway, I can't wait for season 7.

Would've been miles better had they made the side story her gradually clocking on to Dexter, as opposed to her falling in love with him. Was madness trying to pull that off with the whole wannabe Sopranos therapist angle.

Another thing, they should've forged a link between Sam and the main villain. Would've improved it massively, and it would've given Dexter an avenue to really vent some of the distress from Sam's death. Basically, it would've made the whole season a bit more coherent, and ultimately it would've made Sam a bit less pointless.

They have two more seasons yet, it's down for 8.

Depressing isn't it?

The last season was truly awful TV.

It's a bit like How I met Your Mother for me now, the quality has dropped to a level where I don't even really enjoy it anymore, but because I've already invested so much time in it I feel like I have to keep going to the end.

Though the reveal at the end of Season 6 does leave some *slight* hope.

I'm intrigued as to what way they will go with that reveal. It could work but it could also be a disaster.

The incest thing was a fecking joke.

Solius, I think it needed to happen. It should've happened at the end of S5 but the writers completely bottled it.
