Dele 'Muhammad' Alli | Walker takes the finger from Dele | FIFA open disciplinary proceedings

That's the thing.

16 goals already. Even if you call him a "shadow striker" he's got more goals at 20 years old than most of the league's strikers do or have ever done in a season.

Also, isn't 16 goals Giroud's best ever total?
Giroud's highest goal tally in the PL was 16 indeed, in 13/14 and 15/16.

"The hardest one out has to be Suarez, because a) nobody wanted him to leave and b) halfway through the process he bit somebody at the World Cup!" added Ayre.

"I remember the sporting director of Barcelona calling me during that game, immediately as Suarez bit the player, and he said to me 'my friend, he's bitten somebody, how can this be the price?' I said 'he'd already bitten somebody when you first bid!'

Even Rooney only surpassed 17 league goals twice in his career. There is no other way to look at Alli's season but highly impressive.

"There was much-publicised interest in Alexis Sanchez, as part of the deal which saw Luis go to Barcelona, and that deal was done. The only reason it wasn't was that the player and his wife wanted to live in London.

"We couldn't move the football club to London, unfortunately!"

This could be re-quoted mischievously in future. :D

Already sewing the seed that he may look for a move, too similar to Pogba or should we break the bank to bring him here?

He said hardly angling for a move is he? He's 21 with his whole career ahead of him, I can't see him moving anywhere anytime soon though.

You have to commend Levy for how he has grown Spurs and how tight his financial control is. You do wonder though, as I'm sure it's something footballers chat about a lot, if there is any discontent regarding wages there.

Alli has had a second phenomenal season, same with Kane - same with most of Spurs first 11 tbh but they are dramatically underpaid (if all the sources you see online are true) compared to even the average Man Utd, City, Chelsea players...this is also the second season they've been great but won nothing... there's rumours of Walker leaving and I suspect Levy will be challenged to keep everyone happy unless he completely breaks his wage structure.

Then why would the vast majority of the team have signed new contracts this season, Walker included. What ever is going on with Walker, and I have my suspicions, it's not money.

He is great player but, I do not know where he would fit on the elite clubs.

City and us have the formations to suit him already, he could easily play anywhere in City's 4 behind the striker in their 4-1-4-1 system, same for us behind the striker in our 4-2-3-1

Not that that have a chance of getting him he'd also slot in anywhere in Liverpools 4-3-3

I would love him here but with the English player tax and Levy involved then no fee would be justifiable really.

City already have an overabundance of attacking midfielder types and 4-2-3-1 might not be our best option.

I suspect he'd take Silva's spot at City

As for us 4-2-3-1 is Jose's favored system and all of our supposed targets suggest that won't change next season

If your employer offers you a raise, you usually take it unless you are massively unhappy. Even with the new contracts the level of wages Kane (arguably the top PL striker) earns compared to Rooney (Man Utd 4th choice striker these days) is paltry.

Interestingly, the new contracts don't really deter a player form leaving. If, for example, Levy has offered Kane a bumper deal and it's 125k per week (i have no idea what it actually is), Kane can probably assume he'll stay at that level for a couple of years and it's likely close to the top of what Spurs can pay for the next few years as they sort out the new stadium. If Man City then come in and offer something obscene like 350k per week, he'll have a decision to make.

He'll have signed a new deal because the club offered him an increase in salary and he knows in terms of player power an extra year or two on his contract only affects the price a buying club will pay.

I also am aware that Spurs have the smart strategy of renewing contracts little and often, rather than large increases every 3-4 years.

I believe his contract progression per week has been something like:

Feb '15 - £12500
Jan '16 - £25000
Sept '16 - £50000

Natural progression would suggest a salary increase to around £100,000 before next season. Then he's at the absolute maximum Spurs can offer so I'd expect him moving clubs Summer 2018.

If you offer a player a pay rise, he'll take it. From the players point of view there's no down side to accepting an offer of more money. Look at De Gea after the Madrid move fell through.

I'm under no illusions about our best players getting better wages else where, my point is if they really wanted more they wouldn't extend contracts as it makes it harder for the buying clubs to get them. It's hard to generalise what a certain players prioities are money? Honours? City?

Il say again Walker's situation is nothing to do with money. Signing a new contract will allow Levy to happily reject any offer he deems below his valuation so of course there is a downside, if you want away the club is in a far better position to say "your staying". Walkers a good player don't get me wrong and has had a hell of a season but a superstar he isn't, we haven't really missed him since he has been dropped.

The contract extension means nothing if the player eventually wants a move. In some cases, it means just a higher fee other clubs have to pay for him. In some other cases, it includes a clause that the club will consider selling the player if a right club with a right offer knocking the door.

In cases, like Modric's, it means Levy had a verbal agreement with the Croatian if a Champion League club make an offer.

We kept hold of both Modric and Berbatov a season longer than they actually wanted to go. We will see this summer I guess but I'm not expecting any of our top players to leave, and I don't think any will kick up a fuss to do so. It also depends on the profile of the player, but one thing I do know is that if we're selling to an English club we will get the best price possible.
