Dele Alli - Performance Thread 2017/18

Cuntishness is a bit overrated. I mean, it can help to have a really tough players but you want that from your hard tackling CB (Vidic/Terry) or CAM (Keane/Gatusso/Vieira). It's quite irrelevant from a second striker who needs to be delivering in attack.

Ronaldhinio, and Messi didn't have this cnutish streak and noone cared. In the PL, KDB or Sanchez don't have it either. Personally I don't think it adds much when it's coming from an attacker.

This reads like you having never saw him play and just going off media reports. Alli is a good young player but he didn’t score 20 goals from midfield that’s just not true.

Well he doesn't play as an attacking midfielder every game either. He played in a deeper role vs Liverpool 10 days ago and scored.

He scored from a set-piece and a bad clearance, so doesn’t really tell much. Darren Fletcher did the same for Stoke.

Think that’s more to do with injuries as he’s been playing as a SS last season but his goal tally was still impressive for a 20 year old.

Well Martial scuffed his shot the other day, point being it doesn’t matter how he scored, he still put the ball in the back of the net like he has done 20 times this year.

End of the day it doesn’t matter how ‘unlikable’ people find him, Dele Alli is one of the most talented young players in world football.

You can’t dismiss his football talents just because ‘he’s an unlikable cnut’ in the same way you can’t dismiss Lewis Hamilton is a fantastic racing driver, even though he’s an unlikable cnut or Floyd Mayweather is a fantastic boxer, even though he’s an unlikable cnut.

Are we calling it 'passionate' to dive now? Deary me.

There are a lot of other moments that I don't think you can regard as 'passion' either. Punching Yacob in the stomach, flipping off the ref, mouthing off to Ashley Young, trying to break a players leg 'cos you are annoyed you didn't get a free-kick moments prior.

I call that idiocy and being a cnut, which would describe Dele Alli perfectly.

I'd call it "something footballers have been doing forever. Including our own legends."

Still cnuts. I can say that without yapping on about talent.

Diving I'd agree but everything else in the post I replied to is a part of football I wouldn't want to lose.
You won't lose it because from every sample of people you get some portion beinng morons. So don't worry. The moron quota will never go away.

If Alli is a moron so are the vast majority of footballers. A good amount you probably worshipped growing up.

I can't believe people get offended by him having verbals or giving the middle finger.

Just because it's been happening forever it doesn't make it acceptable.

True but it makes the focus on Alli misplaced.

Because he's scored 2 goals today? He's playing as average as normal tbh.
I've always praised Alli and said he was quality. When people come into this thread after his first poor run of form and call him average, I think it's fair to praise him after a quality game against Real.

I think its fair to assess him game overall. Even in this game he was largely ineffectual, he got a good toe poke on a world class cross and a very lucky deflection. Besides a goal threat from being in such an advanced position, he offers very little

He was instrumental in the third goal too. Anyone who thinks Alli only offers goals isn't watching him enough.

Plus, he's 21! Of course he's going to be ineffectual at times. People seem to forget how young he is for a midfielder.

It's his movement that makes him special. This is the bit thats easy not to notice much but focus on the runs he makes and his timing. It's top class and for a 21 year old it's extremely rare.

His movement is good but maybe that's why he's not doing so well now. People are use to it.
For me he's absolutely not special, just about a top 6 player. Eriksen on the other hand...

Superb again. I really like him, it's a shame that we didn't try to buy him after the MK Dons disaster.

Goals win games, you do know that right?

I thought he was quite poor today tbh but obviously goals wins you games, so can see why his performance was elevated in the eyes of some.

Alli is not a midfielder, he's a second striker playing close to and almost level with Kane.

Sounds a bit like Lukaku. For that reason I think if it's goals - it's a good game surely?

One of those players who is brilliant and puts up great stats in a good team, but when the going gets tough or you need a bit of magic, he isn't really going to provide it. Not due to his character or mentality which I think is one of his best qualities, but more due to his ability. He's needs service and good delivery to be effective, he's not going to beat 2/3 man and stick it in the back of the net. His dribbling in tight areas isn't quite refined enough for that, and he isn't going to open up the game with a killer pass.

But 1 v 1 and making them late runs into the box, he's very dangerous and will always be a goal threat, similar to Lampard.

Alli is a forward not a midfielder. He wishes he could conduct play like Lampard while still scoring 20 goals. A fantastic player though.

Just not true if you watch the games. He was up front tonight but Poch moves his around. His best game this year was playing as a holding midfielder against Liverpool.

lol this thread

the guy is class, it's really weird how people don't accept it. We would be creaming ourselves if he played for us. Thought we were a bit more objective as a forum than this thread suggests
