Dele Alli - Performance Thread 2017/18

I don't think he does his share of the work. Think I prefer all of Eriksen, Son & Lingard, meself.

Also, he's an utter & total twat.

edit: Sterling has that shirt for the WC with Southgate playing 3-1-4-1-1. 2 central places in the MF 4 might be where the others have to make a case for inclusion according to the Times's interpretation of Eng's super-flexible tactics

also edit (sarcastic): but also tough competition in there with the likes of Dier & Henderson vying for the spots

That's exactly what he does. Agree that he's a twat but he sure does not hold back in fighting for the ball.

I dont believe that to be the case for one second but we'll see!

You may, of course, choose to believe what you like, but it is demonstrably true.

He’s consistently raised his game in the most high pressure situations and his poorest spell of this season, when I was certainly critical of his performances against teams in the bottom half of the table, was punctuated with a truly world class performance against Real Madrid in the Champions League that may be one of the best performances I’ve seen from a Spurs player since Bale tore 50 new arseholes out of Maicon.

Dele is no doubt a frustrating player sometimes, but he definitely raises his game when it’s most needed. That’s part of what makes him frustrating; he is capable of producing those really influential performances more often than he does or more consistently throughout games.

Frustrating as he is though, he’s a guy I believe can’t be left out because of the X-factor he manages to conjure up right when you’re cursing him.

Also, from a maturity standpoint he’s really shown an ability to learn.

He has this reputation as a loose cannon who can get himself sent off. Last season I would agree, but this term I have not seen that at all. Earlier this season he appeared to be trying too hard to replicate last season’s numbers and was consistently diving, to the detriment of the team.

It appears that Poch has spoken to him about it and he’s taken note as he hasn’t done it in a while and has been playing much better as a result. He’ll probably keep that reputation for a while but he’s shown me that he’s a player who will listen to reason and cut things out of his game which are an issue.

If he starts in the World Cup, and I believe he will, I do not doubt he’ll have an impact while keeping his nose clean.

i find it really odd that grown men go out of their way to say a player is crap just because they don't like them/don't like a player's personality. why do people care about personalities so much?

Alli is a very good player, and he's clearly far better than Lingard. I love what Lingard has done this season, but lets be honest, United would be a better team with Alli playing behind Lukaku. would be amazing.

Imo, Jesse and alli are both players with very even levels. I probably think like this because they both have very similar play styles, and both their biggest strengths are off-the-ball movement and class finishing. Jesse has developed this quality this season finally, can’t fault him for that though as we all know that he is a late bloomer (just look at last year’s player performance thread compared to this year’s one for Jesse).

I think Jesse should start for England though, especially against the top teams like belgium as he has probably one of the best work rate’s in England at this point in time, while alli definitely does not.

:nervous:P.S. Apart from @BringNaniBack, this could be the first ever rational and properly good discussion on the Caf between us United fans and the spurs fans.

Cheers for that!

It's not so much the impact I'm doubting (I agree he could be an X factor type of player for England) but the clean nose part - the pressure he's going to be under in a World cup, especially if we get out of the group, is like nothing else he's experienced (imo, especially with the ability the England NT has to heap pressure onto itself in these competitions, along with the media). So I'm just wary of that. But I definitely hope I'll be proven wrong!

I actually do not think Dele and Lingard are very similar players. Lingard's best attribute is his tidiness - both on and off the ball. He is disciplined, he moves the ball quickly and well and he puts a shift in defensively. He is far more like Lamela than Dele in terms of similar Spurs players and the role they fill. Dele is best when he plays a roamer (in fact, part of his "poor season" this year is the fact he is playing with Son far more often and thus cannot roam as freely). He's more cutting than Lingard, a better finisher and much better in the air (where he is extremely dangerous).

I actually don't see why Lingard and Dele don't play together for England, they compliment each other quite well. The problem is the complete lack of a truly creative #10 - no Eriksen type if you will. Sterling/Dele/Lingard are all very good players, but none of them are true string pullers.

He's very lucky to play with Eriksen. Scored a goal but still clearly not on the level of Lingard today. And a total cnut to boot, imagine trying to do the Achilles of your national team mate just to get your starting spot. Try playing well instead you pointy little turd.

100% spot on

He did well for the goal but is very overrated imo. Also a cnut with a cnut face.

Such an unlikable player. You can't wish any good luck for him while playing against anyone.

:lol::lol: at his Fortnite emote celebration.

Massive tool. Dirtiest player in the league too.

It's hard enough to support England without knowing this bellend is an automatic pick.

Psssh. Didn't even do the dance right.

Who cares how he celebrates, I can imagine Lingard doing exactly the same - young guys celebrating, let them get on with it.

He’s a talented player, who is also dirty and nasty, whose actions we would no doubt praise if he was a Utd player.

Probably, but he isn't so let's just call him like it is. Dirty, nasty cnut of a player.

No, I wouldn't praise trying to injure the opposition if it were a United player. He's talented enough that he doesn't need to add that side to his game, and he's going to get pulled up for it someday.

It's the floss dance
I'm sure lingard is gutted he couldn't break it out first tho ...

Can't stand him, looks like an overgrown child. He's got such a chip on his shoulder.

He was pretty shit in that game. The only thing of note he did was score, another performance which makes the idea of him being a midfielder a joke.
