Dele Alli - Performance Thread 2017/18

Just saw his post match interview, I always felt he would be the 1st of their attacking stars to leave and that interview if I were a Spurs fan I would view as very ominous. Maybe not this summer but a year from now I can see him really throwing his toys out to force a move away

He was pretty shit in that game. The only thing of note he did was score, another performance which makes the idea of him being a midfielder a joke.

He’s not anymore. He was when he first went to spurs but has developed into a player who is pretty much given a free role with no defensive responsibility. Good work if you can get it.

He wouldn’t get into a team Better than Spurs in my opinion

Always looked a nailed on transfer to City imo, could see Pep playing him as a false 9 or some such shite or just sign him to cover someone who's injured with a stubbed toe or something

Has a good first half but in the second lowered his level, like the team in general.

He'll be there next season for the new stadium but after that I just don't see him sticking around.

Nice little dance after the goal. - just when I thought I couldn’t detest the diving, dirty Cnut any more he pulls those moves out.

People need to stop dancing after scoring against us at Wembley..

Where would he go?
Spurs would demand £80m+ or so for him.
Problem is that clubs would think there are loads of other players they can speak that kind of money on.
He's great at arriving in the box and getting goals. But I don't think he has the ball skills of an elite player.

Does a gimpish dance and then ends up losing anyway :lol::lol: couldn't be more perfect.

Anyone else expecting an underwhelming tournament from this guy? Haven't really seen him put one solid performance in for England yet.

No you would be the only one. English players always show up during the World Cup.

Yeah I don’t think he’s top drawer or anywhere near as good as hyped. His indiscipline would worry me if I was an England fan. Great stats but that is in a poor league that’s top heavy. But he is capable of hitting 3/4 goals in a few games so you never know.

Not more than the team in general, so yes.

Was at the stadium yesterday, the Nigerian fans really gave him a lot of stick :D.

If the Premier League is poor, what leagues are good and not top heavy?

This season he has been very disciplined imo.

Don't know why our fans were booing him yesterday, bizarre tbh. The only Nigerian he ever knew fecked off.

What on Earth does he bring to this England team? You’d barely notice he’s on the field tonight thus far.

Anonymous.

Yep pretty invisible. He seemed to be carrying some kind of injury though.
What was most worrying was how Southgate kept him on for so long....

He'll need to phase him out if he's injured, contributing nothing and England actually want to achieve anything

I thought he looked very dangerous until picking up that knock.

You could say that about the whole England midfield, there is absolutely no creativity. I agree he has been below par however, I just wish they moved the ball quicker. It's like England wait until the opposition defence has set up before moving the ball forward. One thing Dele does try though, not always successfully is try the one touch stuff that you need to break down bus parkers.

His pass to Lingard which resulted in Sterling's standard miss was brilliant. Bar the two goals, it was probably the highlight of the match for me.

He was Englands best player in that first half an hour. Sometimes I wonder if people are watching the same game.

Should have been subbed after he took that heavy knock, he was clearly hurt for the rest of his performance.

This, although he is still only 22 and all young players have consistency problems, was a big criticism of a team mate of Alli Eriksen's game at around the same age. I think he will stay at Spurs developing his game until around 26 then look to move if he develops into a truly class player. At this point as a club you are not buying the finished article, but a mix of output and potential. So if a big club did take the plunge he would go from first team football at Spurs to bench warming at one of the giants.

I disagree with you about Alli. Didn't even try. He barely made himself playable in the middle. A total no-show. Loftus-Cheek was doing what Alli should have done.

Hendo did good. Breaking up the opposition play and giving couple of very good passes. You could say he created more than enough for a CDM. And he of course supplemented it with boring no risk the standard play with very safely side passes on too many times even though there was good chance to play it quick up.

Lingard/Alli sure as hell didn't want to come a bit lower to offer an option to pass whenever England defense/Henderson had the ball deep. But surely England can't rely on Henderson being the main playmaker?! Someone needs to step up in the CAM position and Alli wasn't cut for it yesterday as wasn't Lingard doing much better either. That is if England actually wants to play through middle sometimes and not just fullbacks crossing. Even Kane played a lot better than Lingard/Alli as a CAM coming down to get passes and distributing the ball to fellow players.

Unless the players actually want the ball to played to them England will be in serious trouble. Too many times yesterday Trippier and Young and others were like oh-god-dont-pass-that-lava-ball-to-me. It was comical. Kane wanted the ball and Henderson quite a few times and Maguire, but the English fullbacks were afraid. So many times the English build-up got struck because no one offered the option in the middle or had full backs didn't have balls to pass it to the middle for linkup play. Hendo was hiding too way too many times, but made himself playable way more often than the other midfielders. The danger is that if Hendo is the only one doing this occasionally the opposition just needs to wait on that pass and bounce on him to get a quick counter. Alli/Lingard need to man up and have courage.

Lingard gets such stick, even on this forum but I genuinely think he’s a better player than Ali. I just don’t see it with him. What’s his special qualities? Someone explain

His special quality is scoring and assisting. Last year he was the u21 player with most career goals in the whole of Europe, not sure if he still holds that title now. He has 70 career goals at club level aged 22, which is hugely impressive for the position he plays. This season he had the 4th highest amount of assists in the PL.

That said, like Sterling, he hasn't reproduced anything like that form at international level.

I think it's just you on that one pal

Didn’t know that

I'm not actually a massive fan of his though. He's very much and end product player and wastes the ball a lot. I wanted Lingard to start over him for England but here we are with both starting and neither impressing!

Last night Alli was injured quite early on and was left on until the 80th minute for some reason.

Lingaurd had an absolute stinker yesterday, it’s funny how perspectives are, Dele wasn’t much better TBF. But at club level Dele’s goal scoring and assisting is pretty good. He also shows for the ball constantly and tries to keep the ball moving forward with 1 and 2 touch stuff. Also his runs off the ball into the box often go unnoticed but create space.

The only reason I think he was kept on is as you say he is capable of something that will get you a goal, but he wasn’t at that level yesterday due to the injury early on.

Always surprises me how tall he is too. 6ft 2 according to wiki.

He's scored one goal in a competitive match for England.

Against Malta.

We can't just rely on Kane to score all the goals, he needs to be better for England. I wouldn't drop him for the next game but he has to improve.
