Great second half by Rice. He isnt poor on the ball where is that coming from? I'd say his passing and ball control is on par with Kante and a bit better than Matic.
His positioning is incredible.
He doesn't have a fancy name and has been lumped in with Dier - based on nothing other than they are English.Great second half by Rice. He isnt poor on the ball where is that coming from? I'd say his passing and ball control is on par with Kante and a bit better than Matic.
Just can’t see it with Rice, unfortunately. I’d prefer to see Meunier over WB at RB. Other than that, love it.DDG
Wan Bissaka
Alderweireld
Lindelof
Shaw
Rice
Neves
Pogba
Martial
Rashford
Sancho
That's my pick for a United first eleven next season.
Some bitterness on here since he decided to play for England too.He doesn't have a fancy name and has been lumped in with Dier - based on nothing other than they are English.
He's going to be quality.
I'd like to know how he is limited. You try to diminish him as much as you could, but then paint Ndidi as the kind of midfielder we should be signing. Why?He’s limited like Dier. The rest have far more to their game....

He is the kind of defensive midfielder that would allow us to play two attack-oriented midfielders. He is strong in the air and on the ground. His positioning is incredible.

We would compete for the PL with that team, but it'd cost around £300m to acquire so it won't happen.
City spent £250m in Pep's second summer, that's the sort of thing we need to aim for.
You did say that Ndidi, Rodri and Ndombele are the exact style of players we need when in reality Ndidi is another pure defensive midfielder that is even more erratic and worse on the ball. Rice is closer to Rodri than Ndidi is.I don’t think we should sign either. If we had to sign one it would be Ndidi as I think he’s better. Not sure what’s so confusing.

Ole wants more English players. Rice is still young.
He would allow us to be a more possession oriented team and for two more attack-minded players in front of him.
My trident would be
Van de Beek———Fernandes
——————Rice——————-
Where is this coming from out of curiosity? I mean did he actually say he wanted more British players or something?
This.
People talking about these creative midfielders aren't understanding why Rice is being bought for.
He literally guards the CB's playing as a defender whilst having a movement and positional ability to play as a CDM or vice versa.
Neves or whoever can't do that for us. Ole wants to play a level of counter in our team and for that he needs a player like rice whilst the creativity needs to come in front of him.
Current version of Matic probably but peak Matic was quite superior on ball compared to Kante if Rice could replicate that then I am all for his signing.
I think a lot of people do understand what Rice would be brought in for, they just don't want that type of player.

I reckon Rice would be a great fit in Klopp's system. He does the running, wins the ball back a lot and would provide a great rearguard for the front five to run riot. He's not a manager who's know for counter attacking play, if anything his game is more akin to Klopp, lots of pressing and running.

I know. Just trying to explain why he could be a good fit even in a Klopp-style system.I didn't say he wouldn't I was simply replying to OP saying Ole wanted to counter attack, when it's really not what his teams are about.
Still don't understand why some slated him when he played against us. He played well and broke down most of our attacks. He was giving me Kante flashbacks.
A lot better in the 2nd half. He's good on ball, he just doesn't seem very interested in getting on the ball which will be a problem in build up for us. But think this can be developed especially for a player learning the role.
They want players who only give a shit when we have the ball and then do a stepover or two.
He’s better than Dier
At Sporting? Are you sure? There was more hype over Dier at 20, but he never lived up to it
At Sporting?
Can't imagine many had seen him tbh.
